great vegan option in Shannon

The Old Lodge gastro pub is part of a hotel and offers a separate vegan menu for dinner (it is listed on their website and on Google maps, but we did have to ask for it). There are three options for starters, mains and desserts each, a welcome surprise. Had the minestrone soup, the red thai curry and the chocolate tarte. The minestrone was unexpectedly filling and flavourful, almost a meal in itself. The curry was creamy, rich and steaming hot with fresh and tender vegetables and white rice. The tarte was served with a beat vanilla cream and a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. I do not recommend ordering all three courses unless you want to be stuffed to the gills. Service was prompt and attentive. Being this far out from the inner city of Limerick I honestly didn't think an option like this would present itself and I am glad we went.

Pros: three options for each course, vegan menu on website, attentive service

Cons: had to ask for vegan menu, one server was not aware of vegan menu

Nice vegan burger but quite small portion

I only had the vegan burger and vegan chocolate tart. Both were delicious but the burger was quite small. Picture was taken after I already had some of the chips, it was actually full. The burger patty appears to be homemade, was with peas and other greens. It would be nice if the vegan options would be available on the regular menu too instead of having to ask for it.

3 stars as there is a separate vegan menu however serving 2 burger buns on a pasta dish is just an insult

I have been eaten here once before - there is a separate vegan menu. Vegan restaurants are not popular in Ireland, particularly on the west coast so came here with non vegans as they had a separate vegan menu. It is a hotel restaurant so they do serve meat. There were 3 options for starter, main and dessert on the vegan menu. Of course 3 of those main options were the standard vegan fare in Ireland - burger, curry and pasta - hardly groundbreaking but also not to be expected in Shannon either. I only had a starter and main. The starter was excellent- minestrone soup with focaccia- it was really tasty. I had the pasta for main and well, it went downhill from there. The pasta dish came out with 2 sesame seed burger buns on top of the pasta - when I enquired I was told this was because they had run out of vegan garlic bread. I foolishly tasted said burger bun, couldn’t eat it. The pasta dish was a large portion- too much. It was supposed to have kale but came with spinach and a cloying, bland tasteless sauce (not tomato based) that to be honest made me feel sick.

Pros: Separate vegan menu

Cons: Serving burger buns on a pasta dish, Pasta dish was tasteless , Service was hit and miss
