Fancy buffet restaurant with a huge range of food including salads, veggie sushi, desserts, coffees and teas, and much more. They even have a few western dishes like pizza (with cheese), and lots of Japanese-style dishes.

Sometimes more is less - Edit
Perhaps my expectations were too high, based on the ratings, and because the previous night I dined at Ever Green in Taipei (which was like a vegetarian Shangri La). But even though Shang Hai was more expensive than Ever Green, it was not even comparable - it was in a much lower class. I felt the food quality at Shang Hai didn't match the price.
Although there were lots of dishes available, I actually ate less than usual (and was still hungry) because many of the dishes did not appear very appetizing to me: what wasn't overcooked looked too greasy. I was reminded of heartland American buffets, that offer lots of non-nutritious food and views of super-sized diners. Of course, Shang Hai was nowhere near that bad, but I did feel it was clinging onto an outmoded concept: bigger is not always better.
Note: My visit was in August 2010.
Pros: Staff
Cons: Poor value

Favorite in Kaohsiung - Edit
I was in Kaohsiung for one week and came here like four times despite having many, many places to choose from. Taiwan has some spectacular vegetarian restaurants, and this place is no exception.
Pros: The pumpkin soup, Desert, Huge variery
Cons: A little expensive

Excellent Place for a Splurge - Edit
This is one of those Mega-Buffet type places that are scattered across cities in Taiwan. Definitely one of the best. Although it is a bit pricey at $650 NT/person, the range of food is phenomenal. It ranges from Vegan sashimi and rolls to cooked-to-order stir fry's to pizza (not vegan). They also offer many drinks included in the price like teas, coffee, and juices. Most of the desserts aren't vegan though, so watch out if you don't want to eat eggs/dairy.
Pros: Variety, Cleanliness
Cons: Expensive
