There are better places out there - Edit
Overpriced and overrated. 100%.
Read moreThe interior was nice and the location was very convenient. But other than that, food, service and price were pretty bad. Some dishes were not bad. Rice noodle with soup dish we had was decent. But all other dishes were not even mediocre. And the portions were tiny. The restaurant was empty when we got there, but staffs were inattentive. We needed to try to get their attention when we needed service. And the price was too overpriced. Staff informed us about extra 15% tax after we ordered. I won’t return.

Nada más llegar nos atendieron muy amablemente y nos pusieron aire para compensar el calor exterior. Trajeron la comida rápido y estaba todo muy rico y muy bien cocinado. Fueron muy amables en todo momento. Tripas felices, nosotros felices.

Gorgeous Bistro with Fantastic Food - Edit
Vegan options are clearly marked!
Read moreGorgeous setting, this was a perfect first meal in Hoi An.
The steamed rice cakes reminded me of Woon Chai Koh, which I haven’t eaten in ages. I keep reading and hearing about the Cao Lau so that was something we really wanted to try over here in Hoi An. Apparently you can only get it here as they use the water from a well to make the noodles. The claypot eggplant did not disappoint - super happy to be able to eat it!
I think the only thing that made me a bit uncomfortable was the server who asked me questions non stop after I praised the food and some of the questions were really intrusive. Eeeks, I just wanna eat and smile… not chit chat after a flight and no shower 😅

I have been there too. Love the atmosphere and food. Did you try abalone mushroom 🍄?

Overpriced and overrated - Edit
This place did not live up to its great reviews. The first thing we noticed was their strange ethos printed into the front page of the menu, professing their spiritual mission to ”spare all souls from suffering” and yet promoting the consumption of eggs and dairy.
Read moreWhen it came to the food, we were also quite disappointed. I got the banana curry which tasted nice enough but was nothing special and a little overly sweet for my taste. I also found the texture of the sauce off-putting—thick and gloopy. My partner enjoyed his pho, which was actually one of the cheaper dishes on the overpriced menu. We ordered ”banh mi” on the side, expecting a fresh baguette, but instead received three tiny slices of incredibly stale bread that must’ve been cut hours beforehand. If it had been complimentary that would’ve been one thing, but it cost as much as a full sandwich from a banh mi stall!
The restaurant was very unpopular the evening we dined there, but despite being their only guests, the staff were distracted and inattentive. Overall, it just felt like very little care went into their food and service. Perhaps we just got unlucky in that instance, but we didn’t go back to find out.
Cons: Not vegan 👎, Overpriced 💰, Hypocritical ethos 🐣

Nice Plating, Fancy Dishes - Edit
The original restaurant is located in Ho Chi Minh, while this is the Hoi An branch. Conveniently located at the start of the Hoi An Old Town. Tibetan Buddhism inspired with some religious music and imagery. The food is vegetarian but the menu clearly labels vegan options as well as gluten-free and nut-free choices. Pricey but nicely plated and unique/fancy with some fusion flavours. Minimal use of mock meat, mostly featuring whole foods. My personal favourite was the Barbecued Mushrooms. Would have liked more Danang / Hoi An regional specials in the menu!

Not bad - Edit
I had the tofu and plum sauce to start, could've had more depth of/plum flavour. Would recommend getting rice with this dish as pretty saucy. Got pho for main. Think you could get better for cheaper but had a nice fragrancy to it

Outstanding - Edit
Even though the prices are more expensive we wanted to experience this restaurant after we read all the good reviews about the place. I must say they were not wrong. The dishes are prepared with so much love, everything looked delicious. We ordered the Pho Rolls as an appetizer, which was something different to all the spring rolls we normally eat. Filled with fresh vegetables and covered with noodle sheets, it was a tasty combination. As a main course I ordered the Banana Curry, which was a nice change to curries I'm used to. You can order it with bread or noodles. It comes with potatoes, carrots and eggplants in a banana coconut gravy which tasted absolutely amazing. Unfortunately, you only receive a really small portion of the noodles, but that's my only negative point. My boyfriend ordered Mi Quang, what is a dish out of noodles, different kind of mushrooms, bean sprouts and banana blossom in a broth. It was so good that it left my boyfriend totally satisfied.

Amazing food! - Edit
Great vegetarian food with lots of vegan options. The staff was also super helpful and accommodating in veganising some of the vegetarian dishes. A bit on the pricier side (in comparison to street food) and smallish portions but still and must try in hoi an :)))

Unbelievable - Edit
As a fan of trying local cuisines, but also an avowed vegetarian, it can be tricky navigating cultural mores and your own moral compass, but Shamballa was truly exceptional.

The menu was extensive, and food options were delicious. The Breadfruit fries and Lotus roots were unbelievable - I have not had anything similar before, or since.

A peak dining experience - Edit
Shamballa has such wonderful vegetarian food, with many vegan options. It is great to be able to know that all on the menu can be chosen by vegetarians with no need to second guess any ingredients.
Read moreThe food choices are astonishing, surprising and very tempting ... we had trouble narrowing down the list. The menu is beautifully presented with clear images of each dish.
We ordered 3 entrees, a salad and a main meal and it was so much food for two of us. The serving sizes are very generous and the quality is amazing. Fresh and clean, with great textures, colour and flavours.
If I could give chefs hats, I would certainly award Shamballa with one not only for their food. The service was superb also. We were welcomed and made comfortable immediately.
We will be going back again before we leave this beautiful city.
If you are vegetarian or even if you are not, this place is a must do in Hoi An. Dining at Shamballa is a peak experience.
Go there!

Best Vegetarian Restautant - Edit
A friend told me about this new restaurant in Hoi An and we had to check it out. The interior and atmosphere is beautifully decorated, it leans towards a traditional style but very airy and fresh. However what really blew us away was the food! The two of us shared a set menu and every dish that came out was delicious and beautifully presented. This is a must visit for anyone in the area.

Food was delicious! Craft beer was also delicious. Was definitely the most expensive meal we have had in Vietnam, but also the fanciest. I unfortunately have to add, myself and my wife were a little unwell the next day and this was the only place we went to for food. Hopefully just a coincidence / bad luck
