CLOSED: Shakie's

Shakie's is situated in several train stations in Amsterdam, but also in some places in the rest of the Netherlands.

This place used to be alright but has rapidly deteriorated. I guess that's the main reason why I am so disappointed.

Shakie's is supposed to sell FRESH (expensive) juices, shakes, bagels, muffins, etc. What I've seen from the preparation it's really not that fresh. An instant premixed pack of fruityoghurt (with or without added sugars??) is being used as a basis for the smoothies, with a tiny bit of added fresh fruit. All juiches and smoothies are already put in cups long before you buy them. Bagels, muffins etc. are also pre-packed and stored at room temperature for who knows how long.

Furthermore, Shakie's is NOT vegetarian! I don't know who placed it in the veggie category, but they definitely sell salmon. As far as I'm concerned, salmon is a dead fish = dead animal = not veggie (for all you 'flexitarians' out there who consider fish to be vegetarian).

Worst of all, beside the (pretty boring) fruit juices, there are close to NO vegan options. They have one mediocre soy shake, that's it. They used to have a descent humus bagel, but took it from the menu. However, the humus bagel I had once was prepared on the same cutting board as the salmon, and was therefore not very vegan anyways.
There are one or two places (e.g. Amsterdam central station) that sell soymilk latte/cappuccino. I must admit that that's a tiny little plus.

In short: Don't go here people! It's madness, utter madness!

A busy juice and smoothie bar inside Amsterdam Centraal Station. Great power smoothies for a welcome arrival to this great city. As ever, smoothies on the high street tend to be expensive and this is no exception but I suppose you have to use a lot of fruit to get a lot of liquid.

Really great people. They made me a bagel with avocado spread and spinach... they did try very hard to help me. I had a Soy berry smoothie. Good smoothies
