Busy but good - Edit
An unexpected restaurant in waterfall country with a quite trendy decor. Staff are friendly and appear knowledgeable about the menu.
Read moreAlways several vegan options on the menu which are a cut above normal pub fare.
Our group had the beetroot burgers and sausage & chips - all of which which received rave reviews. We also had the pasta dish which had a rather strong taste of fennel.

Has vegan options but pricy - Edit
Good to see there were vegan options for breakfast and main. The portion size is very small and the meals expensive. My morrocan Buddha bowl had no grain in it. It would taste better with buckwheat or quineo as a GF option. My friend had a mushroom Wellington and chips the portion was so tiny and very expensive.

Pale ale and chocolate sauce - Edit
There are limited vegan and vegetarian options in a little place like Pontneddfechan, but we loved Sgwd Gwladys. I had the vegan pie with chips, gravy and pea puree (this would be called mushy peas a mile down the road in Glynneath); the pies are from Mr Nice Pie in that Shangri-La of Welsh veganism, Port Talbot (also my birthplace, incidentally), which I believe is listed elsewhere on this site. The pies change every day; mine was a Rendang curry pie, and was delicious washed down with a couple of bottles of Punk IPA.
Read moreI am not usually one for puds, but I had to try the vegan millionaire's shortbread with vegan chocolate ice cream and chocolate sauce. Unfortunately, as I was ordering, a big party of squaddies arrived, so I had to wait. In the end I ordered another beer, and, as it arrived, as if by magic so did the millionaire's shortbread. I was surprised how well IPA goes with chocolate, really.
I don't really need an excuse to go back to the Bro'r Sgydau, but if I did, Sgwd Gwladys might be it.
PS: we've now had Sunday lunch at Sgwd Gwladys: soya mince and pea pie with roast potatoes, shredded parsnips and onion gravy. Ñam ñam, as they say in Spanish.
