Delicious options, slow service - Edit
Everything was delicious 😋 I expected a spicy surprise from one of the peppers but it didn't come, thankfully 😅 Was impressed by the brat for having such an interesting take on Banh Mi, highly recommend it! The wait time can be tedious though compared to their Ann Arbor location, so prepare to wait at least 20 minutes for entrees.

3.5 stars? A few impressions… - Edit
It would take several more visits to give a fair review of this place so I’ll just give a few assorted impressions.
Read moreI cook extensively at home so at restaurants I gravitate towards items that are hard for me to make perfectly, or take extra steps to prep, or surprise me somehow. The heavily vegan menu (awesome) looked dense with the kind of low-fuss meals I’d cook for myself on weekday: A jambalaya, a tagine-type thing, another bean dish, etc. The item that clearly stood out from this trend was the lasagna, the only non vegan item. So I ordered the couscous dish and hoped for a spin on the dish. My mother ordered the lasagna and enjoyed herself thoroughly. She’s a picky enough eater, so I’m sure this item is delicious. She said she would definitely be back.
We ordered the General Tso’s cauliflower, which is a crowd pleaser. If you like this item, the General Tso cauliflower in the Everyday Vegan cookbook tastes just like it.
My couscous item was perfectly competent…the perfectly charred tempeh elevated it beyond what I would have time to make for myself, but it was a bit ordinary in other respects.
The guava cocktail I ordered was perfect.
Service was friendly but fairly perfunctory…didn’t check in with us after the food came, at all. I finally put my credit card on the table to attract her attention, which she grabbed without mentioning the total. :/
I will note that I have only been in cities that check vaccine cards. This doesn’t.

Several vegan options & drinks - Edit
The happy hour is great! Half off appetizers if you sit in the bar dining area. Vegan nacho cheese and chips, and spinach artichoke dip are delicious as well as the shisito peppers and cauliflower! Order a beer on tap or some wine. There is an extensive wine selection and any cocktail as well. While Seva is not fully vegan they have now made most of their items vegan. The yam sauce is vegan and mac & cheese, etc. weekdays have different drink specials for happy hour. Check their Instagram for more specials. Breakfast served all day! It is on the pricier side though.

Awww. So sad. I'll SEVA my support for those who work in service of all living beings-- including mother cows and the dairy industry's littlest victims, their newborn babies. Maybe SEVA stands for Selling Evisceration Violence and Anguish. ☉〰️☉

Really good food but pricey - Edit
I had the bruschetta (must specify vegan), which came with a really tasty, crumbly/creamy almond cheese that reminded me of almond feta recipes I used to see online. I also got the vegan Coney Dog. I learned that I am not a fan of Coney Dogs, but that is no fault of the restaurant - the sausage itself was really good, but apparently I'm not a fan of chili dogs. The mocktails are also delicious but very overpriced.
Read moreAs a side note, I got the yam fries as a side with my Coney Dog and a table next to me hopefully let me know that it came with a non-vegan aioli by default. My server had not mentioned this, so I had to flag her down and swap it for barbecue sauce before she brought it out. Thank you to my fellow vegans who overheard me ordering!
Pros: Bruschetta is perfect, Tasty sausage used for Coney dog, Tasty variety of mocktails
Cons: So expensive!, Have to be careful to veganize everything

Vegan coney dog!!! - Edit
They had so many delicious options, it was hard to choose. The food was great and I was so happy to get to try the Detroit coney dog. Service was warm and kind. As an added bonus they help take care of the local alley cats😄

Tasty veg eats - Edit
Had lunch at Seva. Love the plentiful vegan and vegetarian options - almost everything can be made vegan. Nice outdoor shaded patio seating area (not technically dog friendly per a sign on the door, but its a nice space and should be).
Read moreOrdered the vegan nachos and Caesar side salad to start - both were delicious. For mains ordered the jambalaya and the vegan black bean and sweet potato quesadilla - we felt that both were good but not great. As a veg restaurant, wish they made their own protein vs using Beyond Meat. Enjoyed our time here, will come and try other entrees (some of the sandwiches looked great) and would recommend.

Saw that it was rated high, food was overrated. Tried a good bit of options and nothing was impressive. Mediocre at best! Service was bomb! Place had a good atmosphere, food didn't match unfortunately.

simply amazing… there’s so many vegan spots in detroit but seva seems to be the only one with hours that i can make it to- but i’m not complaining! everything is so so tasty and awesome. i like how it’s just recognizable foods turned vegan/vegetarian. i’ve been here 1000 times and i’ll go another 1000 and another

Consistently good option - Edit
In Detroit’s ever expanding vegan scene, Seva is now one of the oldest places still around. While the food isn’t as flashy as some newer places, it’s always good and seems to be especially well received by omnis. They are open most days, have great seating inside and out, and a full bar. It’s maybe not the first place to come to mind for me, but always a solid option.

A decent place for a vegan meal - Edit
Seva is on a little side street, in what appears to be an art collective. It's a bit tricky to find, but once you get there, it's a bright, open space. It's entirely vegetarian, and most of the items can be made vegan. My boyfriend and I ordered a bruschetta to share, a large appetizer with pieces of bread, tomato, olive tapenade, and almond pesto. It was fun putting them together and totally delicious. He ordered the jambalaya, and I got the mushroom French Dip with vegan cheese. I do think we ordered a bit much to eat, as the portions are generous (especially the large pile of fries that came with my sandwich!). It didn't stop us from getting a dessert to share, the chocolate raspberry cake.
Read moreThe service was friendly and competent. If I go back to Detroit, I'll definitely try again. (But maybe I'll get a salad next time.)

It’s fine - Edit
Very difficult to find, especially at night. The food was good, but the service was really bad. They got orders wrong, took a VERY long time to do everything, charged us wrong several times, and were rude. I would be a little more understanding if they were busy, but they weren’t at all. We also had 3 people in our party all find hair in their food. Oh, and it’s very overpriced.

Seva can be hit of miss depending on what you order, since their menu is so large some things end up being better than others and some things end up worse, and there is sometimes inconsistencies with the same dishes from day to day. I would still recommend it, but just be aware of that so you aren’t disappointed!

Good not great - Edit
First time here. Had to put our name and number on a wait list but the hostess never texted us. Eventually we went back up and were seated.
Read moreOur server was pleasant but made several mistakes regarding our order. Pencil and paper go a long way here. The wrong appetizers were brought to our table but we offered to take them. One was supposed to be comped but wasn’t and added another $12.95 to our bill. She unfortunately put the order in incorrectly and this was also due to not writing anything down. We ordered two appetizers, a soup, a side dish, three entrees and two desserts and a beverage. We were an $100 bill for two people.
The highlights of the meal were the General Tso’s Cauliflower, the Pesto Pizza Sandwich and the Red Lentil Curry Soup which was excellent. On the other hand, the French fries were soggy and greasy, the Bruschetta is overpriced and the cake is served cold so it loses its moisture.
I’d come back again. Plenty of vegan options and customizations to make some dishes vegan. Prices are respectable but service needs to improve.

I had the chips with guacamole for an appetizer, which was delicious. Then for the entrée, I had the Beyond burger with fries and a side of pinto beans. The entrée was okay, definitely not bad, but did not knock my socks off. The burger was overcooked, the fries didn't seem to be salted, and the pinto beans didn't seem to have any seasoning. But I added salt to everything, and overall enjoyed the meal!
My husband got the vegan Rueben, which he said "was not super Rueben-like, but was tasty and yummy." And our friend got the jambalaya, which he said was absolutely delicious (and this was his second time eating at Seva and ordering the jambalaya.) So ymmv depending on which dish you order. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant and I would probably go back again.
Pros: Cute and cozy, very pretty outdoor eating area, Good service, Great variety of vegan options
Cons: Overcooked Beyond burger, Food under-seasoned
