Uninspiring vegan options - Edit
If this place offered pizza, the vegan version would be the one without cheese. As the waiter said, "It's a vegetarian restaurant with vegan options." He wasn't wrong: of the several desserts, only one was vegan. I didn't even ask what it was after the disappointing dishes I had already eaten.
Read moreI think I've been spoiled in my travels through the world because I can't remember the last time I went to a vegetarian restaurant whose menu was not only predominantly vegan, but where they offered proper substitutes for dairy ie. cheese for vegan cheese. Even non-veg places do this these days. Sesamo seems to treat vegan options like an after-thought. The smoked eggplant dish (for vegetarians) came with fermented red pepper, cheese, cilantro etc. The vegan version was literally some very salty miso paste spread on top of two roasted eggplant halves. It was a strange and unpleasant combination that cost €7.5. The vegan mushroom tart omitted the cream and cheese and was simply fried mushrooms served in a pastry cup topped with a sprinkle of pistachios and served with a bulgar side salad. I would have been embarrassed to serve something half-finished like this.
While the ravioli had a nice flavor, it also felt like an incomplete dish with just black garlic and hazelnuts on top. The only thing that tasted really good of the four dishes we ordered were the mushroom croquettes.
The food feels lazy and although vegetarians seem better catered for, it certainly isn't inspiring food for vegans. It was quite an expensive and disappointing experience.
Pros: Good for vegetarians
Cons: Expensive, Uninspiring vegan options

Vegan tapas - Edit
Little restaurant of vegan and vegetarian tapas. We tried: pimientos del padrón, bread with tomato, indian curry and their wonderful cauliflower with green sauce, tahina, pinenuts and pomegranate. Ask for vegan options.

Close to being great but not there yet - Edit
Had the 7 dish vegan tasting menu. All dishes had interesting and innovative flavour combinations and there was definitely enough food for us. It was a shame though that all the dishes were a bit short on flavour and all seemed to be quite soft and mushy. It was also quite heavily salted for my taste.

Cons: Fairly pricey, Food was all quite soft and mushy, Not a lot of flavour and a bit too much salt.

I'd there's ONE place you eat in Spain... - Edit
Wow, completely blown away by this place. I wish we had found it earlier and not the night before we left. We had the ravioli and the dessert platter and I wish we had just gotten the vegetarian plate of the day - 2 people minimum, 25 euros, 7 tapas and a drink. We were hesitatant because we weren't sure if we'd like the food but they made some amazing food. All of our meals were vegetarian but I'm sure they have vegan options and that they taste just as amazing.

Nothing special - Edit
I was expecting something more since all the reviews are so positive. It's quite expensive for the little portions they serve.
Read moreThe menu is boring, with some Italian dishes, really basic tapas and something international.

Very nice tapas cafe - Edit
Came to Sesamo to try out vegan tapas. Their proposals were very nice, some had some gourmet ideas, and overall everything was good and healthy. They have some specials, and also a degustation menu. Also very good collection of gins, if you are into that. Recommended!

Great tasting menu - Edit
We really enjoyed the tasting menu. It was worth trying, even if it was slightly pricy. Vegetables really were the stars, not meat alternative, which for me is a great plus.

Ok so in Barcelona everything has ham in it. Not here. Great restaurant and an absolute delight to order the tasting menu. Everything we had was fabulous. If you are in Barcelona you must go here. You must.

Do the tasting menu - Edit
Tasting menu was delicious and staff were friendly. It is a busy place so best to book in advance. We didn't book but luckily we were only a party of 2 so we got a table by the bar, but a few groups were turned away as there wasn't space. Really great food, every course was lovely and it was worth the money to try the tasting menu.

Fantastic flavours - Edit
We had the tasting menu for 25 euros per person and requested to have it vegan. There were classic Catalan specialties like pan con tomate and pimientos de padron as well as unique tapas like carrots with beet hummus, or a delicious chickpea curry. Considering the amount and quality that you get, it really is amazing value.

Not that good value for the money - Edit
Compared to what I remember from a few years ago, this place seems to have got pricier. Me and my friend had a starter each (beetroot hummus with carrots and a lovely red cabbage with dukkah), followed by decent main courses (ovenbaked cauliflower -too bad it wasn't evenly heated- and some kind of pastry with mushrooms and macadamia nuts on top). We started calculating how much we were going to pay, and still without getting particularly full, so in the end we decided to have no dessert (only 2 vegan options that night) and supplement our dinner in other ways. Incidentally, they asked if we wanted bread for the hummus, and they charged us for it a couple of euros even if it was dry and stale-ish.
