Sen Viet is a fully vegan restaurant in hoxton, 120 kingsland road. It's a ten minute walk from old Street station too.
It was friendly and welcoming and it was starting to get pretty busy. I noticed lots of people seemed to be regular customers and were greeted as such which was sweet.
I came here with a friend who doesn't like mushrooms and honestly this is not necessarily the place for you if you also don't! I also asked clearly for no chilli and although they said no problem there was a kick to my main and the spring rolls. If they were premade sauces then I'd prefer to know and just order something else.
The crispy pancake I loved! Definitely order this it was fresh and filled with mushroom, fresh tofu and veg. It was really good, had I known it would be so big I would have actually just ordered this!
But I also ordered a main served with rice and the curry was good it said it was lemongrass but honestly I didn't really get that freshness it was more like a kind of katsu coconut curry sauce? It was tasty and the tofu was fresh and it was filled with bits of mushroom and veg. But the slight chilli kick meant I couldn't finish it at all.
Together it came to £33 for half of the crackers and the pancake and curry. But I also over ordered. Honestly, I would come back if I was around hoxton but I'd order very carefully if avoiding chilli!
Pros: Friendly service, Vegan and healthy options, Lots of options
Cons: Too spicy

Tasty and filling meal! - Edit
My partner and I shared a tofu curry with rice and the sizzling mushroom dish with noodles, both were delicious and I made an effort to savour each mouthful even though I wanted to eat it all at once!
Read moreI would probably have the noodles and rice the other way around next time and put the noodles in the curry to soak it up.

Delicious food! - Edit
We were lucky that we were able to book a table with only a 30min notice :)! We went for the mustard leaf rolls as a starter, as main courses we chose the vegtable stir fry with tofu and rice noodles and the coconut curry with steamed rice. We both liked the starter and loved our main courses. The service was very friendly and impressively quick.
Read moreThe only two reasons, why I didn't rate 5 stars are that it was very busy, thus quite noisy and we felt a little bit squished in-between the other tables. We had to get from our chairs whenever the couple at the table next to us had to get up and move to the side when they got their drinks and food. Also, we were sat right next to the bathroom. Even though, the staff was very busy closing the bathroom door, guests constantly left it open, so that I had a really good front view of the urinal 😂 not the best table haha.
Pros: Delicious , Friendly staff , Quick
Cons: Noisy, Very busy

Great full vegan place with excellent food and service. Catered easily for gluten free. Knowledgeable staff. Highly recommended. I went at 7 pm on a Saturday and by 8 there was a queue down the road. Although busy the food came quickly. Love the tables!

Instant favourite! - Edit
We absolutely loved this restaurant. We had the mixed platter to share as starters, then a pho and banana dish, all were amazing! Service was quick. The restaurant can feel a bit crammed when busy and is definitely a popular location so would advise booking! Prices can be a bit steep but the quality and flavour of the food definitely makes up for it.

I loved the ambience and the decorations in the restaurant. The waiter/owner (?) was very friendly and helpful in answering questions regarding the menu. The portions are perfectly sized and the dish well-balanced in terms of ingredients and flavours. Definitely recommend this place!

Delicious pho - Edit
Intimate, busy, noisy Hoxton restaurant. Excellent banh xeo and pho, especially the mixture of mushrooms and herbs. The dipping sauce was really tasty. All food is vegan, gluten and other allergens clearly marked. The restaurant was very busy on a Friday night and staff were polite, but service wasn't a priority.

Some good, some bad - Edit
A real mixed bag when we went. Arrived, as booked 90 minutes before closure (which is very much 9pm: not 9pm closure plus time to eat). Staff eating rather than serving. (I’ve no doubt they… possibly proprietor) was starving by end of day but why do that?
Read moreWe were the. Subjected to being ENTIRELY surrounded by chairs stacked on tables as they, very unsubtly) pushed us out. I felt like we really weren’t valued and, if this is the best vegan place in east London, felt quite embarrassed to my omnivorous guest that this behaviour is acceptable in vegan restaurants…
2 starter dishes were amazing. 2 mains were quite average (but is suspect there are some great mains: we were just unlucky with our choices)
Pros: Some dishes amazing, some average, Very happy servers
Cons: Not interested in whether we’d booked or not, Staff eating, 90 mins from end of service. NoWine, Yet still stacked chairs completely around us

Star Pho - Edit
Delighted to see this family owned Vietnamese restaurant has transitioned to a fully plant based menu whilst retaining its authenticity. The vegan pho was probably the best bowl I've had to date. Could have done with a bit more tofu but otherwise richly aromatic and satisfying. At this part of London where you will be spoiled for choice of Vietnamese restaurants, this glows a little brighter for its compassion and warmth.

4.5 in my book - Edit
This is one of those cases where half star ratings would be handy. The food was generally good, but there were hits and misses.
Read moreWe had the crackers which were just like I remember the nonvegan ones tasting. Then, we had the crispy pancake and it was a winner. It was crunchy, with a chewey filling full with different flavours and textures.
For mains, we ordered one of the dishes of the "family courses" section and a spicy noodles soup. The first dish was just not something we liked. The soup was good and filling, but it lacked that something that makes a dish outstanding.
Finally, for dessert we had the fried ice cream, which was tasty and indulgent!
Overall, I would give it a 4.5.
Pros: Many options, Some tasty dishes

Tasty and friendly service - Edit
The food was really delicious but on the downside it wasn't spicy enough! I ordered the spicy noodles soup and it was merely spiced! We also ordered the 'pork' dish which had a very realistic texture and tasty sauce. And the taste and texture of the salt and chilli tofu was pretty good. Portions were plenty big.
Read moreMy main criticism would be the prices of the dishes are pretty high. Especially the side dishes - £9 for some fried up veggies!? It did deter me from ordering extras which was a shame as I would have loved to try them.
The ambience of the place was good -cosy and cute. It was really busy (both with hipsters and Vietnamese people) which is obviously a good sign.
Would definitely visit again but might consider trying other options first due to the pricing issue.

Should Be Illegal - Edit
Because it was that good! I love Vietnamese food so of course I had to come into one of London’s top rated (I hate that the sort by most reviewed was replaced with top rated, btw. Please add back sort by most reviewed, HappyCow) restaurants. I ordered some vegetable rolls with mustard sauce, summer rolls, and spicy noodle soup.
Read moreThe rolls tasted good but both sauces that accompanied them was not enough for the serving. The spicy noodle soups was one of the best vegan Vietnamese spicy noodle soups that I’ve had. Everything about it screamed flavor.
I arrived to a jam-packed restaurant and was told there was a 10 minute wait, 10 minutes is what I waited. You will do yourself a disservice not coming here.

Great fully vegan Vietnamese! - Edit
There were really unique options. Very flavourful food! Though the food was delicious, the prices were quite higher than other Vietnamese restaurants in the area and they charge a fee per person to byob which is not common. I liked the food though I am not sure I would return with so many amazing options in London.

Arrived in Hoxton for a trip to The Museum of The Home (also highly recommended btw 😀) and thrilled to find a fully vegan restaurant nearby. Fabulous food, served by lovely staff in very relaxed environment. Really tasty noodle bowls, imaginative use of tofu and wheat proteins - just couldn’t be faulted.
