Best Cheap Vegan Eatery in Lima / La Mejor Comida Vegana en Lima - Edit

In the past three weeks, I have been to Seitan three times, and it never fails to disappointment every time. The vegan lasagna was the best I've ever had in Peru, or anywhere else, the set menu during the weekdays is one of the best lunch deals at only fifteen soles for a drink, bread, appetizer, entree, and a small dessert. I highly recommend eating here any day of the week. Even on weekends when the set menu is not available, the menu has a great and still affordable selection of plates, appetizers, and drinks. Get the chocolate molten lava cake with lucuma ice cream, you will not regret it.

Pros: Good Value, Quick, Delicious

Cons: None

Looking forward to the next time. - Edit

I’ve visited Seitan for dinner in June 2016

As mentioned in the previous reviews, the restaurant has a nice atmosphere and friendly staff.
The food was very good; I especially liked the mushroom risotto. I had the pineapple dessert and lucuma ice-cream. I enjoyed the dessert, however the ice-cream was a bit too sweet for my taste, but I think it’s normal for Peru.
I would definitely like to come back next time I’m in Lima and try more things.

Pros: different food, nice atmosphere

Cons: none

Amazing food and service - Edit

From the moment we called for a reservation we were greeted with positivity and enthusiasm. Santiago the owner and chef put on an amazing feast for my wife, my friend and I. We tried the spring rolls, potatoes and sliders for entrees followed by pasta, mushroom rague, crispy polenta and to top it off a fabulous pineapple cake/ desert and vegan chocolate cake with a peanut vegan ice cream. Family run, staffed and full of love - 5 massive stars!

Good vegan food; attractive decor - Edit

I ate here twice in April, 2016 for lunch. Currently the meal of the day Monday through Friday is 14.9 Soles. This includes a drink, a choice of two starter plates and a choice of two main plates + a teeny tiny bite of cookie or cake for dessert. They usually put the week's menu on their Facebook page so that can help you decide which day to go.

Of all the vegetarian restaurants I have visited in Lima, this one has the nicest decor. There is a visible kitchen. To me the most important thing at a restaurant is the food. The first time I went for lunch the two main plates were both heavy on carbs; one choice was a rice-based dish and the other was a pasta dish. I wish that on every day they would have at least one dish that was not based on carbohydrates for those of us that try not to fill up on carbs. The second time I went I got the quinoa meatballs on top of mashed potatoes. I thought the quinoa meatballs were very good but the mashed potatoes just tasted watery and lacked flavor. I realize this is a vegan restaurant but mashed potatoes made without milk and butter just are not nearly as good as the real thing in my humble opinion... there must be some way to make them taste better without adding dairy ingredients (perhaps garlic or onion?).

Overall I thought the food was above average for Lima but I don't think I would call it Gourmet. However, they have succeeded in creating a very attractive space for vegans and vegetarians to enjoy good food. I would rate them four cows out of 5 for the nice interior and the above-average food. They do have some nice touches, such as the chilled salad bowl and the heated entree plate. The only thing that was a negative for me was on my first visit I went to the cash register to pay for my meal and instead of just handing me the change she put it inside one of the check presentation folders and handed it to me. This seemed kind of awkward and it was an obvious solicitation for a tip. I had already left a tip on the table, and I didn't think the cashier needed to be so obvious with the suggestion. Other than that, it was a pleasant visit.

Pros: Location, Attractive dining room

Best vegan food I have come across in South America - Edit

Eating at Seitan - Urban Bistro was what made me want to sign up to Happy Cow just so i could share how fantastic our experience was.

The service was exceptional, the staff amazingly friendly and the food simply exquisite. Don't be put off by the price rating given by happy cow, the meals are incredible value, especially given their gourmet nature.

Get here early in your trip, you will want to return.

Pros: Fully vegan, A favorite of my non-vegetarian girlfriend

Cons: None

One of the best vegan restaurants in Lima - Edit

Went there 2 times in March 2016 and will definitely go again soon. The restaurant offers vegan "Haute Cuisine" but with an affordable cost.
In fact, the daily menu (S/15) is a fairly reasonable price for many restaurants in the area, but Seitan offers a VERY good quality. Even the meals out of the daily menu are not that expansive (around S/14-18, maybe more)

First time I had the chickpeas curry, which was good but with too much coco milk for me. The service was excellent also.
Second time I had the daily menu, which included bread (with oil, salt and a paste made from olives and almonds), starter (I had the pair of mini-nems, excellent and fresh), a main course (pasta and mushrooms sauce with a bit of asparagus, also excellent), a drink (pineapple juice) and a "postrecito" (very small dessert, much more like a promotion for the brownie they sell)

But what definitely got my attention and love is the "coulant de chocolate", the best I ever had (including in France) and that comes with a home-made ice-cream (lucuma, fig, strawberry, etc.). It is at S/12 which is totally acceptable for a dessert that good!

I really love the fact they succeeded to offer a very good cuisine but without putting high prices, I hope they'll be able to stay affordable for everyone because I'd enjoy to bring non-vegan friends there and prove them you can eat better than in any other restaurant in Lima and for a good price too.

Pros: EXCELLENT food, Good attention, The "coulant de chocolate"

The best Vegan restaurant in Peru - Edit

I am from Lima Peru. In Lima there's not a lot of vegan/vegetarian restaurants. Most of them are located in Miraflores or in Lince district. I've visited almost of them, but let me say that Seitan is by far the best vegan restaurant in Lima. It's not big nor small. In lunch time there's a menu that cost 15 soles (5 dollars depending to exch rate). ALways have 3 options of entrees, 2 options of main dishes and a tiny dessert. At night vegan high cuisine begins (open W, T, F and Sat). Chef Santiago Santolalla shows his skills learn in France and you can notice. You can tell when a chef is running his own restaurant by true passion. Cost of dinner between $5 to $10 (just one). No more words, try it and if you have the chance to talk with Santiago or his father Rafael, let me tell you, you will be happy.
