Unfortunately, only a few vegan options left - Edit
When they started, they had many more vegan options on the menu, also a vegan „Kaiserschmarrn“ which was amazing. Unfortunately, lately there have only been two vegan items, both of them being dumplings (red beet and spinach), and nothing vegan on the daily/weekly menu. Both are delicious, but as there is only one sauce you can choose when you are vegan, it’s great for one dinner out, but not to go there regularly. Net-net: location is really nice, same holds true for the staff, but limited options and comparably high prices.
We went there on my birthday, therefore a proper occasion for something this fancy. They have 1-2 vegan options on the menu and a daily special. It was beautifully decorated and very tasty. The service was also on point and very accommodating. I'd recommend it when one is looking for something a little more exquisite.
I was looking forward to this restaurant, as it really offers something you won't find every day: vegan Austrian food.
Unfortunately the selection of vegan food was a bit lacking. They only had 2 mains, both of which were dumplings/Knödel. Granted, one is seasonal and will change again, but if you don't like Knödel (like my company) this was not a good start.
We opted to just share the tomato cream soup, spinach dumplings and the kaiserschmarrn desert. The soup was very good, while the dumplings came in a very bitter sauce. I like bitter things but this was not very tasty and we actually opted to leave most of it on the plate. The king oyster mushrooms were unfortunately quite chewy, so we didn't like the main dish too much.
The kaiserschmarrn desert was just ok as well. It was still pretty raw and not fluffy like I'm used to. The plum sauce was excellent though!
But paying over 30Euros for soup, main, and desert is a pretty hefty price for a standard tasting menu. It doesn't help that the drinks prices are also on the high side (4,50Euro for 0.3l of lemonade and 4.9Euro for a 0.5l beer).
Overall our high expectations were not met. I don't think we'll be back any time soon.
One more important thing: They do have little labels of ingredients/allergens next to every dish. Weirdly enough at least 2 of the vegan dishes point to egg or milk based ingredients. When asked about this they said it probably was a mistake by the owner when writing the menu. They asked in the kitchen and the cook said it does not contain any egg or milk based products. Still leaves me puzzled about the vegan status and shows just how little thought went into those label. If you are allergic to certain things: Please ask again! Don't trust those labels at this restaurant!
If you are looking for a place to have a fancier meal in Frankfurt (i.e. no fast-food) then you should consider to go to Seefeld. They offer Austrian (actually Tyrolian) cuisine (which is notorious for adding eggs and dairy to almost anything) but have some decent vegan options. The spinach dumplings (Spinatknödel) come with king oyster mushrooms and the sauce is based on pumpkin-seed oil and taste absolutely great. They also have a seasonal menu; on that they offered fried polenta with chanterelle mushrooms in a tomato-based sauce, which was also excellent. For a dessert they have Kaiserschmarrn (a sweet pancake dish with roasted plums and vanilla sauce).
The prices are not cheap (15 EUR for a main, 10 for the Kaiserschmarrn) and I found the drinks particularly pricey. Given the location of the place (right next to Frankfurt city centre with views over the park) and the high quality of the food (it was really excellent), I think those prices are justified though.
We went here together with people who ordered the meat dishes and they were happy as well - so you can consider this place if you want to eat with others who would not like to eat vegan.
One thing which might be interesting to some people: All the dishes we ordered contained some alcohol (some in form a a foam they put on every meal and some inside the sauces). In particular the Kaiserschmarrn has quite some alcohol in the plum sauce. We actually liked this, but we also did not expect it because the menu did not say anything about this (It had a comment to tell them in advance in case you would not like to eat specific ingredients). If that bothers you, you should tell them ahead of time that you would like your dishes prepared without alcohol!
