Breeze-d To Make Your Acquaintance - Edit
Being based in Dubai, it’s easy to forget that there are other frontiers in this fine country to explore. So, with this in mind, I took it upon myself to embark on a breakfast road trip (that’s a thing, right?) to become more well acquainted with what the northern Emirates had to offer.
Read moreAs I had blindly selected this potential location, I had no preconceived notions of what to expect. Rather fortuitously, I happened to choose a smart, aesthetically pleasing eatery in a stunning location – go me!
Aside from the visual appeal of both the restaurant and its setting, the first facet that needs mentioning is the staff – entirely beyond reproach and almost helpful to a fault. No one embodied this more than the head chef. When they found out they had a vegan in their midst, they didn’t try to placate me with mere token gestures; quite the opposite. Seemingly enthused by my presence, he sprang into life, calling on all and sundry to prepare a slew of plant-based offerings. Delicate, bejewelled avocado toast, satisfyingly stodgy oat milk porridge, and a feather-light dosa were but just a few of the delights that materialised at my table.
My heart did go out to the poor pancake chef who, caught up in the fervour of their boss, was tasked without warning – or seemingly a clue – to produce a vegan alternative to their standard creations. After some time, a very unnecessary apology, and a team of reinforcements, they finally managed to succeed in their endeavour, and quite ably, too.
Away from the bevvy of beautiful, tailor-made creations, there was an ample selection of choices to be found on the main spread. I revelled in perennial favourites such as spring rolls and hash browns, but I also found great pleasure in unearthing less commonly found treasures such as the surprisingly moist cranberry chia muffin and the vibrant grilled zucchini salad.
If this place is indicative of what the local area has to offer, then I will have no qualms about making many more journeys to this neck of the woods. However, regardless of what else is around, this is a destination worthy of a repeat visit. From start to finish, and from the food to the employees, it was pure class.
