Saravanaa Bhavan - Suria KLCC

Good pick for lacto-vegetarians. The quality of the food, and service are impressive. Serves a decent variety of mock-meat dishes as well. Garlic Mutton was especially delicious. The staff is really friendly and remembers our preferences. Recommending this, if you are in search of delicious south indian food around KLCC.

Probably OK for ovo-lacto-carno-vegetarian folks, but when I asked the staff informed me that all their food contain ghee butter or other dairy products.

Maybe it's just that my or staff members' English wasn't good enough to understand each other, but for me it definitely sounded like "No ghee? Sorry, no have." Sad and unfortunate story of many Indian vegetarian places, especially fast-food/buffet ones, where they just can't cook any custom stuff on your request. And unlike other kinds of vegetarian places, they often don't even know what that "vegan" thing means.

In Suria's food court, I ended up eating in a non-vegetarian Bengali booth because they cook their vegetarian options on vegetable oil (traditional thing for Bengali, AFAIK), at least I was so told.

Saravanaa Bhavan is one of the better known Indian vegetarian food chains. So it is great to encounter one of their outlets (a small stall actually) in the busy food court of Suria KLCC, right at the heart of the Kuala Lumpur Twin Towers. (There are not too many places there that do offer vegetarian and vegan options). You can find them on the right side of the food court when you are coming up the escalator, close to the other vegetarian stall, Simple life.

At first glance, it seems that they offer much the same menu as in one of their many outlets.

Prices are moderate, their set lunches start around RM 8 (~EUR 2), which is comparable to the prices of the other stalls in the food court. Of course, if you want to have a simple Roti Naan with some vegan daal, that is expensive for KL, considering that most street vendors sell this (or similar) starting at RM 2. So the suggestion is to go for their slightly more expensive, but also more substantial meals.

The staff seem knowledgeable and can advise which of their many options are vegan.
