All veg Indian food - Edit

This is a franchise similar to many locations in India and other countries. The last 3 times I have been here, the food has been excellent. Idli dosa with all chutneys Sambar fresh. Ambiance is that of a South Indian restaurant handling volume. Designed for groups and families. Service has been great. No more complaints. Patronized by Indian customers which is always a good sign. Medium prices in line with normally expensive amsterdam restaurants.

Pros: all veg South Indian good location

Cons: ambiance is not great but ok.

Not impressed - Edit

As a lover of Indian food, I had high expectations. I arrived at a time when the restaurant was fairly empty. It did not look very cozy but I am fine with that when the food is good, and the setting is quite typical for this type of Indian chain restaurants.

The staff member who came to my table was very friendly and helpful, and he knew what "vegan" meant and gave me some directions. There was a lot on the menu to choose from. I decided to go for idli and a dosa. Both came very fast.

Then my disappointment started. The idli tasted somewhat stale and I was wondering how long ago they might have been prepared. The coconut chutney and anything else along with it tasted bland. There were some spices in everything, but not that superdelicious combination of flavors I had at many other locations (like, in India, Abu Dhabi, Dubai or at Veggiesaurus in The Hague). The dosa itself was ok, but it came with the same dips, and those -in combination with the dosa- are what really makes the dosa experience for me. The only vegan desert was a tasteless fruit salad for an overpiced 5 Euro (the prices for the other food were fair, though).

I might give them a second chance, but not too soon.

Pros: has vegan options, friendly staff

Cons: food taste and quality could be better

Authentic Indian Vegan Food - Edit

Very good and very authentic! Traditional Indian crepes, pancakes, idlys etc are all vegan. So you have a huge menu to choose from!
Friendly staff, quick service (though it can get very busy), great heart-warming food. The only things I don't like are the chairs and the tables, that's it.
Very easy to reach from center with Tram 4 to RAI.
Can definitely recommend it to everyone who loves Indian food, whether you go there with friends or for a romantic date. (:

Pros: pretty cheap for good Indian food, only 3 non-vegan ingredients on the whole menu, ea, they serve the food very quickly!

Cons: can get very busy, chairs look weird

Not vegan - Edit

My expectations of this restaurant were pretty high, but it disappointed me. When I asked which dishes on the menu were vegan, the waitress clearly didn't know the meaning of the word "vegan" and showed me the options without garlic and onion. After I explained the concept (no eggs, no milk, no cheese, no animal products at all), she gave me one option: the vegetable curry. Her colleague confirmed that it contained no dairy products. Even though I'd have liked to have a few more options to choose from, I was happy to have found something vegan and ordered.

The food that was served a few minutes later was super tasty. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure the dish wasn't entirely vegan after all. It contained some pieces that looked and tasted a lot like paneer (Indian cheese). I remember the taste from my pre-vegan days, and can't think of any other ingredient with that kind of structure. When I asked the waitress, she told me it was an Indian rice noodle (?) without looking at it.

To make matters worse, I'm not just vegan for ethical reasons: lactose causes pretty bad stomach pains. I'm not 100% sure if it really was paneer, but the hurting of my stomach seems to confirm it.

I suppose it would be possible to have a good vegan meal here, but make sure the staff really understands what you're asking for. I won't come back though, I prefer a place that I don't have any doubts about.

Pros: Free tap water, Not too expensive, Tasty food

Cons: Not really vegan, Staff didn't know what "vegan" means, Small portions

Really good authentic Indian food - Edit

I went here with my family on Saturday and we loved it (even my dad which is hard to please with vegan food)!
We had the Roti, the Saravanaa Special Meals and the Paper Roast Masala (and one more thing which I don't remember) and everything tasted really nice! It was plenty for 3 people.
We asked if our choices can be made vegan and it could. (Most things can but especially the things which don't obviously have non-vegan ingredients on the menu description)
First, we had to wait a bit to be served (it was quite busy), but we didn't mind, just call the waiter and don't wait for someone to come. But once we ordered the food came very quickly!
The staff was also very nice. :)

Definitely coming here again!

Tip: Come early, after we left there were people waiting in line but this could also be because it was easter weekend

Pros: Authentic Indian food which tastes good :), Received food quickly, Quantity

Cons: Maybe employ more waiters

vegan? - Edit

Arrived on a Monday evening and the place was busy, very loud, waiter showed us to a table, gave us a menu, so I asked what is vegan, he said flipping through the pages, this is possible, this possible, like every thing on the page was vegan possible, the restaurant then became totally full, so when I called him back, all of a sudden only the set meal was vegan possible? All the curries suddenly contained butter gee? Food came fast(set meals usually do), and was good,.

For a quick visit - Edit

A very noisy restaurant with no ‘’styling’’. But that was also kind of the charm: the Indian waiters with their funny accent, the main meals that were already served while still eating the starter…

But, as a family dinner for a celebration it was way too noisy. We hardly could understand each other.

A lot of Indian people eating there, so that’s a good sign. The food was indeed good. It was pretty spicy though, so be aware. I was immensely full when I left (lots of oil?).

The menu cart is soooooo big. They have like 100 dishes on it and it impossible to choose something. Also a lot of Indian names I had to google to understand what kind of dish it would be.

They told me that everything that doesn’t look vegan on the menu, isn’t. So everything with yoghurt, cheese, ghee etc. But to make sure, order your dish ‘’vegan’’.

Pros: Taste is good

Cons: Noisy, Too many options
