Amazing vegetarian chain restaurant - Edit

All dishes here are vegetarian, but most are not vegan. If you are a strict vegan I would suggest not coming to this restaurant as they do not state which dishes are suitable for vegans.

Pros: All vegetarian, Great value, Fast service

Cons: often a queue for tables, most dishes unsuitable for vegans

I'm going to review Saravana Bhavan based upon the fact that Happy Cow suggested that it's vegan-friendly, although to be fair this is not a claim made by the restaurant themselves.

There are a few surprising things about the restaurant, especially considering it's vegetarian at least. Firstly, some of the staff seem unaware of what veganism actually is. Secondly, vegan options are very limited to say the least with most dishes cooked with butter or milk (ask for the document containing all of the ingredients, this is the only way you'll be able to determine what's suitable to eat) and neither can be substituted as they are pre-made.

The food, when it arrived was nice, spicy but very rich.

So, this is not necessarily a negative review as the restaurant have never suggested that they are vegan-friendly, more one of our overall experience based upon the advice given by Happy Cow, who need to remove the vegan-friendly label attached to the place.

If I was a vegetarian I would have given the restaurant 3/5.

Pros: Good menu for vegetarians

Cons: NOT vegan-friendly

not very vegan-friendly - Edit

Almost any Indian restaurant I have been to (which serve meat) can make dishes without butter and use just oil but not this chain vegetarian restaurant which is a big shame. I asked if they can make dishes vegan when entering the place and they had to confirm what this actually means. I love a good healthy curry but the food was too rich for me. On a positive note though the left-over I ate the following evening was still nice (and actually easier to eat).

Pros: Close to tube station at Rayner's Lane. Big en

Cons: Staff needs to understand what vegan means. Food t
