Many vegan options - Edit

Cute rooftop café that serve many vegan options such as tofu scramble, porridge, salads and more! It is nice to come here for some quiet compared to many other places in this crowded city. Sit, relax and enjoy the sun and good vegan food.

Little vegan oasis in Thamel - Edit

This place is brilliant! Lovely staff: helpful and friendly. Lovely food: good choice of vegan and vegetarian (with vegan alternatives) and everything ordered was extremely yummy. Lovely place: Rooftop patio for ultimate chill out, spacious downstairs cafe area and free wifi to boot.
We went back 3 or 4 times for all of the above.

great 4 vegans - Edit

Great food, friendly staff; they take care with the presentation of their dishes (the cheesecake was a happy surprise). The service is very slow but food worth the wait. They have a smoking area in the rooftop section which i didn't like because i don't smoke and i would have liked to dine up there smoke free. Anyhow the dining room on the kitchen level is smoke free.

Pros: vegan menu, good food, ample portions, friendly st

Cons: service is slow so take a book to read

Great vegan cheesecake! - Edit

My fiance and I ate at Sarangi a couple of times while we were in Kathmandu - the rooftop terrace is really relaxing, the food is delicious (the dhal bat and vegan cheesecake were so good!) The waitstaff are extremely friendly and very knowledgeable about vegan items on the menu. They also host yoga in the morning and movie nights!

Great Food/Friendly Staff - Edit

Tried Sarangi Vegetarian for lunch and was very impressed. The restaurant is for a great cause. It was exactly the place I needed to go after wandering the streets and feeling somewhat over-stimulated. The food was great (I had vegan nachos), and the environment was quiet and relaxing. The staff was also very helpful and nice. If you are in Thamel, I would highly recommend eating here. The only negative aspect of this restaurant is that the seating upstairs is outside, and I had a difficult time being outside for extended periods due to the air quality in Kathmandu.

Delicious, friendly, and filling - Edit

No real complaints here. The rooftop terrace is cozy. The staff is friendly. And the food was delicious. Definitely try the veg samosas.
It might be a little on the pricey side for other options in the area, but it still feels like a good deal. Definitely worth the price in my opinion.

Grace's good gobbles - Edit

Great atmosphere and delicious food. I can't believe we didn't come here earlier. We struggled to find vegan food around town, even with "vegan" listed on the menu, meals often contained dairy or egg. Not Sarangi. Sarangi was helpful right from the start. They even make their almond & coconut milk from scratch! Topped off by the relaxed rooftop, away from the hustle and bustle of the streets.

Pros: Chilled/relaxed, Great food, Extra activity (movie/yoga)

Cons: Took time for food to come

relaxing, tasty food, vegan friendly restaurant - Edit

The vegan items are marked in the menu, which also has the prices after service. Very nice and relaxing rooftop. The place would be perfect if it was fully vegan.

Pros: many great vegan options, soothing atmosphere, nice and helpful vegan friendly staff

Cons: expensive in comparison to Nepal, has dairy and eggs in menu

amazing food - Edit

The food is delicious! Many vegan choices. It's a little bit pricy for Asian standards but cheap for European standards. Nice place to sit. They also have Wi-Fi and power plugs.

Pros: many vegan options

Cons: pricy

Rooftop Oasis - Edit

Absolutely incredible atmosphere. Amazing rooftop area, in addition to lower main level, separate vegan menu, herbs grown on site with intentions to become as self sustainable as possible.

My snack portion was big, so be mindful of over ordering as I tend to do.

Staff are so kind and friendly, I even got a personal Sarangi demonstration (traditional Nepalese string instrument).

Pros: full vegan menu. , rooftop are. , amazing staff.

Recommendable - Edit

Lovely restaurant with comfortable seating on two floors. There are two menus - a vegan one and a vegetarian one. Lots of vegan drinks with soy milk, almond milk etc. Portions are a bit small - I wouldn't call the "mains" mains, but the food is delicious. Profits support the musicians community. Very friendly staff and owner.

Pros: delicious food, lots of vegan choices, comfortable seating

Cons: small portions

worth visiting - Edit

It was nice to visit this place. Separate vegan menu was great especially non alcoholic drink section with all those varieties of home made nut milks. And apart of that it was nice to learn the concept behind this place, the help and support they provide for Sarangi people. If we ever back to KTM we will visit then again.

Nice place - Edit

Well, this is a nice place. Maybe the day I visited it I was not very lucky as the music was loud and bad, the menu choice was limited and the tea I ordered was not available.. I had high expectations, maybe I will give it a second try

A wonderful veg restaurant in the heart of Thamel! - Edit

This place is a must if you're vegetarian, vegan, interested in supporting locals, or just want to hang out in a sunny, colourful, fun environment.

The food is delicious and the service is great. If you're vegan, mention this when you arrive since they have a separate menu for vegans.

The restaurant has big windows with lots of natural light, and the hand-painted artwork on the walls is breathtaking.

The owners are not only committed to supporting a musician caste of Nepal, but also a remote community devoted to growing organic food. When I was there, one of the owners said she’d just purchased organic brown rice from a remote region in Nepal. It’s so great to see a restaurant devoted to supporting the locals.

I already know I'll be a regular customer here!

PS. For the yoga lovers out there - they offer free yoga when you order breakfast on Mon, Tue and Wed.

Amazing! Vegan food that gives back. - Edit

So much good to say about this place! The whole foundation on which they've built this restaurant is beautiful and the separate vegan menu is the amazing cherry on top.
All profits are donated to supporting local communities, they grow food on the rooftop terrace, the food is so delicious, the staff are lovely and the location is great. This place needs to be packed! We've been every day since we found it.

Best tasting food in Kathmandu - Edit

I stayed in Kathmandu for five weeks and this was the best food I ever tasted. It was different, but in a good way! The cauliflower and quinoa salad was very very good. And the hummus, pita bread, roasted vegetables were so delicious.
The dishes/servings were small when they call them a main course. I had two main courses and still wasn't full. I think the prices are fair if the serving were a bit bigger but I would definitely come back as the food tasted SOO good.
Lovely and quiet rooftop terrace, but was difficult to find, they need a sign on the main street.
They have an aquarium on the rooftop which I find odd as they call themselves a veg/vegan restaurant. It actually made me sad to see these poor fish swimming around in a glass prison :(

Pros: Super delicious and tasty food, Quiet rooftop terrace, Nice and polite staff

Cons: They have an aquarium, Small servings

Nepaliveg 09 Nov 2016 - Thanks for taking the time to post such an honest review. It is great to hear that you loved the food. We will definitely look into the portion size as that it easy to adjust. We understand your concern for the fish. The reason for including them in the aquaponic system is that we now don't need to fertilise the plants as their waste does this job very well. We understand that this is a compromise when creating an urban food production system and are hoping that we can at least give them a spacious and healthy home...and not eat them as in a lot of aquaponic systems.

Amazing!! - Edit

Such a great find in the middle of Thamel. The place looks incredible with an awesome rooftop (featuring an aquaponic garden)!
The service was excellent and the food was even better, lots of clearly marked vegan options (try the momo).
Prices were very reasonable compared to some of the places on the main street.
What's more, as a socially run business the restaurant does a lot to help out the local community. Try it!!!

Pros: Delicious food both vegetarian and vegan, Great service with English speaking staff, Great rooftop with funky garden!

Cons: Off the main street. ...but still easy to find!
