Needs a serious upgrading - Edit
The restaurant has very(!) limited Vegan options.
Read moreAnd for now good reasone, for exmaple they prepreaper all the tometo souce with cream inside, so they have tometo pasta on the menu but no vegan option. Crazzy.
They don't even have any simple dish (like plain salad, or extra bread).
Also, half of the already limited veraity of vegan dishes was not aveilable wen we were there.
Also, it is a very expensive restaurant, and all the dishes are small.
We will not return.
Pros: The one dish we menage to order was good
Cons: No Veraity of Vegan opptions, Expensive

Amazing Restaurant with rooftop chillout and herb garden - Edit
Sarangi serve delicious food with very generous portion sizes. I had their Dal Bhat and absolutely loved it! I also love their mission to empower communities that have been marginalised by the Cast system in Nepal. By providing training and employing people from disadvantaged backgrounds they create opportunity to break the cycle of poverty and stigma.

Cute spot - Edit
Little bit expensive in comparison to other places in Thamel but very good. They have a mix of Nepali and western dishes. Definitely recommend sitting on the rooftop as it's a great hangout spot and they grow herbs and plants up there as well. They have movie nights (I went to one) there as well which is awesome!

I visited in the evening for dinner and stayed at the rooftop. Amazing light and relaxed ambience up there. Food was very tasty. Plus, if you are a masala tea or capuccino lover, they can make it with soy, almond or coconut milk. Friendly staff.

Delicious! - Edit
Staff was kind, food was delicious and service was quick. After weeks on the road I was looking forward to something more western and grubby for a change. For lunch I ordered vegan nachos, pineapple smoothie and vegan cheesecake hit the spot! Lovely restaurant, I will be coming back!

Disappointing dinner - Edit
The atmosphere and rooftop space is awesome, service was friendly and it’s for a great cause so I feel bad saying this... but honestly the food here was pretty awful. We had garlic bread which had only the tiniest touch of garlic and oil, so it was mostly plain dry toast. Also had nachos which was really basic, although the guacamole was great. But I copped a bite that tasted like mould, I think it was in the bean mix.

Pros: cozy rooftop space with floor seating, worthy cause
Cons: food was really basic, not fresh, overpriced

4.5/5 stars
Read moreInside an alley in the thamel street, quiet and cozy. Didn’t eat here but the banana smoothie was great. They have soy, coconut and even almond milk (which I haven’t seen in Kathmandu before). I set on the rooftop, there are many itching ants here and a bit dusty but the downstairs area seems cool and comfortable.

All good - Edit
this is the best restaurant in Kathmandu or close to it. the best vegan nachos I've had in my life. The service was the friendliest and warming. And the vibe is again the best. The garden at the top is wonderful. They even donate to Nepalis lower caste. What a great feeling. Easily 5 out of 5 stars!

Missed the mark - Edit
We wanted to love this place, but too many things let it down. The staff are absolutely lovely, the space upstairs is perfect to chill out, but unfortunately the food and timing let it down. It's probably the longest we've ever waited for a couple of hot drinks and dessert. We ordered the rice pudding which was okay, the vegan cheesecake...well the staff were sweeter. Maybe a different time of day perhaps.

Great food and a great cause - Edit
We came here for dinner on a Friday evening and were the only diners. The food was great. We had a paneer kufta and veg tempura in soup (can't remember what it was called). The restaurant is run by an organisation that supports girls and women who have been trafficked. Please come and help keep this restaurant open.

Instant favorite — best in Kathmandu - Edit
Sarangi has a lot to love, from concept to execution. The menu is diverse and creative, the food is organic and delicious, the service is friendly and helpful, there are movie nights and live music nights, and the whole project supports marginalized communities in Nepal. What more could one want?
Read moreFood-wise, the produce is grown organically in aquaponic gardens on the rooftop terrace, so it couldn't be any fresher. The cooks do a great job with flavor, texture, and presentation (see photos). Most of the menu is either vegan or veganizable on request. During my visits, I had the chance to sample about seven dishes from the menu, all of which were tasty and worth having again, plus others that looked appealing that I didn't get a chance to try. The samosas, nachos, and the "farmer's plate" (roasted veggies) were particularly tasty. They also do great fresh juices. For those with a sweet tooth, the vegan cheesecake was a treat not to be missed, you could enjoy it with a soy latte.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is charming, with candlelit table service downstairs and a breezy rooftop terrace. And the location at the end of a lane off of the main drag in Thamel makes it refreshingly quiet and peaceful, while still being quite conveniently central.
Perhaps best of all, though, is the fact that Sarangi is a socially-responsible business designed from the start to provide jobs, training, income, and opportunities to various marginalized communities in Nepal, and the founders of the restaurant have bold vision for pursuing this social objective. For example, they provide job skills training for people from impoverished backgrounds, and provide micro-loans to villagers to help them lift themselves up. As customers, it's great to know that the money we spend here is helping to support such noble work.
All of these factors combine to make Sarangi my new favorite restaurant in Kathmandu.
Highly recommended. Do check this place out. Enjoy!
Pros: Diverse menu, with local organic ingredients, socially-responsible business, mostly vegan, and very vegan-friendly

Great food, friendly staff; they take care with the presentation of their dishes (the cheesecake was a happy surprise). The service is very slow but food worth the wait. They have a smoking area in the rooftop section which i didn't like because i don't smoke and i would have liked to dine up there smoke free. Anyhow the dining room on the kitchen level is smoke free.
