Flavours of South America with a punk rock twist!

Paid a quick visit to Santa Salsa's new central location. It's in a beautiful old building just round the corner from Fridhemsplan. I missed them at their old location in Frihamnen which they shared with a brewery. There's been so much buzz about Santa Salsa and they've had lots of pop ups the past year which has helped to get the word out. They even got a big article in the vegan magazine Vego which commended them for their many vegan dishes!

The restaurant has a bit of an unusual layout. There are two small dining areas on either side of a bar which is slightly elevated and quite long (and also has tables adjacent to it). There's a small DJ booth with vinyl records on the walls. In the dining area at the back they have three tv:s on a shelf showing old school movies (Pulp Fiction and Terminator when I visited). I can't really say much about the acoustics as we were there so early but I'm sure the divided dining spaces make it slightly less noisy.

One is recommended to order one arepa and two patacones if hungry. My friend and I wanted a snack so we opted for an arepa each and Yuca fries with avocado salsa. I chose Sweet & Salty which can be made vegan. It had slices of sweet plantain and salty cheese and was quite filling. It was tasty and well executed however I would have liked some hot sauce to set it off, I found the flavours a bit bland. The cassava fries were a nice pairing with the salsa.

I'm keen to try more of their dishes as I'm curious of South American cuisine and love the laid-back, rock 'n' roll vibe of Santa Salsa!

Pros: Several vegan dishes, great atmosphere & friendly staff, everything is gluten-free

Cons: None yet!
