Not a lot of options - Edit
I generally really like Sanga hostel and the atmosphere. The owner is very friendly and speaks good English. I stayed at the hostel next door but went here for food a few times. They also seem to be the main organizer of tours in Pakse.
Read moreUnfortunately the food options werent that impressive. For breakfast, the only vegan options is baguette with home-made jam. I asked them to serve it without butter but they brought out butter anyways (it’s served on the side luckily). They only have it as a ‘menu’ option served with a large pot of tea, which doesnt really make sense because most people who eat here are time constrained. I ended up just saying ‘no tea’ the second time I got there and it doesn’t change the price. I feel like a lot of the tea just goes to waste. Also especially around 8.30-10 am it’s extremely busy, but everyone just shares table so there will be a seat. Baguette was actually very very tasty, good quality. Jam is okay, not that special and small portion.
On the day I arrived I had a full meal here and asked one of the staff members if there is anything I can eat thats vegetarian and without egg and she said there is only one option: tofu and vegetables. That was contrary to the stories here but may have been the language barrier. The dish was kind of bland and a bit boring (which I suppose is what you get when it’s literally just tofu and veggies). For a bigger meal it’s probably advised to ask the owner at the counter for help, because according to other reviews it gets you more options.
They also serve oatmilk for coffee!

Only mediocre - Edit
Nice atmosphere in this hostel, many good juices. The fried tofu and ginger was not recommendable. Though there was a lot of ginger in it the taste was mostly marked by the sauce which tasted artifical, way too much sugar in it and maybe even convenience food. No herbs or spices in it.

Hostel with vegan options - Edit
Staff at the counter couldn’t speak English but the lady on reception spoke great English and advised me what could be made vegan and ensures the staff understood too.

Punches well above weight. Much better than Hotel across the road - Edit
Wonderful host (who I think was the owner), food & service.
Read moreAfter having been ripped off across the road at the Pakse Hotel on every occasion we tried to have a drink or food there, we ended up here and it’s just a polar opposite.
What seems to be happening is like European high streets: where the big company spirals out with no customers, then keeps chasing what’s left with increasingly poor service and overpriced options.
Eventually this place will move into the bankrupt hotel across the road if things over there don’t change.

Hidden gem in Pakse - Edit
I found this restaurant by chance out looking for vegan food. I had just arrived in Pakse and I spotted the menu had vegetarian options. It's inside a hostel at the very back of the building using the front entrance. The lady serving was very friendly. I told her that I was vegan and would like to order food with no eggs, no fish sauce and no oyster sauce. She knew what I meant and said it was possible. I ordered the tofu pad thai and fresh spring rolls. The food arrived quite quickly and it was tasty. I'll be going back again for dinner during my time in Pakse.
