Lovely ambience and lovely food

Really nice decor and welcoming staff combine with flavourful dishes to make a delightful dining experience. The pho nuoc noodle soup is possibly the best I have tasted in a while. To be recommended, even though it’s a little out of the touristy centre, unless you’re staying nearby in which case it’s very convenient and lucky 🍀.

Pros: Flavourful food, Welcoming staff, Affordable

Ambience plus

Loved this place....what an experience to eat amazing food in an old tradition house with a beautiful garden. The best vegetarian/vegan food I've had in Vietnam as yet. Highly recommend it.

Pros: Great food, Atmosphere , Service

Cute cafe

Nice atmosphere, off from the busy road. Menu is in vietnamese only, but has also pictures. The staff was nice and friendly and assisted with translating. The food alright I suppose but not too memorable.

Vegan food, vegetarian drinks

Nice located restaurant. We stayed in the graden twice. The food is very delicous. Unfortunately they use milk or yoghurt for some drinks. I did Not appreciate the plastic straws and the wet and try tissues, served in tinfoil. Especially the straws could be exchanged with bamboo or glas straws. It would bei better for the environment!

Pros: Vegan food

Cons: Vegetarian drinks

Best Vegan Restaurant in Vietnam

We are traveling through Vietnam since 2 weeks (and have some more weeks in front of us). Till now San May Restaurant has been the best Vegan restaurant we'v eaten. The Springrolls were delicious so we ordered after the first portion an other portion. The Bittermelon was awesome good!
And no MSG which is also very difficult to find in Asia.
Tomorrow is our last day in Hue but for sure our lunch and dinner will be at San May !!

Pros: Excellent food, Very Friendly Service, No MSG

Cons: No cons, No Cons

Best veg food is Vietnam so far!

Absolutely loved it here. Beautiful old style interior, varied menu with good photos of the food, friendly staff with good English. A little out of town but worth the walk/taxi. We tried lots and all was delicious but I highly recommend the crispy mushrooms, seitan in lemongrass and chilli, braised jackfruit and the pomelo salad. All was very fresh and tasty and came out in good time. Was excellent value as well!

Lovely space, unique flavours

A beautiful setting with helpful, attentive staff. Food was unlike anything else we have had in Vietnam - some very interesting dishes. The fig salad was a highlight.

Best in Hue

This was our favourite restaurant in Vietnam. The most flavoursome food, great decor, good service and clean toilets. It's a bit pricier than some places but it's more than worth it. Our only regret was not being able to go back again before we left. It's a bit further out, but it's definitely worth it.

Pros: Flavoursome food, Clean restaurant and toilets, Good service

beautiful 100 year old house and a lovely garden

Went here for breakfast a couple of times and also for lunch and dinner.
Take some time to walk around the garden and house - it is beautiful and have a very calming effect on you (when it's not busy)

The breakfast soups are some of the best we had in Vietnam and the banana flower pate is exceptional !
We also tried the crispy taro balls, pomelo salad, mushroom wrapped in bean curd and the spring rolls - all very tasty.

Pros: friendly service. beautiful dining atmosphere

Cons: they charge 5000VND to use the tissue they put on

Friendly staff

I went on 30th of month when many Buddhists are vegan so it was very busy (I guess the 1st will be even busier) and as a result service was a bit delayed. However it was not too bad. There is an English menu you can ask for but it doesn’t have all the choices so you are better looking at the pictures in the Vietnamese menu. The food was very good with a lot of choices. A bit out of the way but worth the trip.

Nice space, mediocre food

We went with dishes recommended, but regretted it. The food was bland, served warm not hot and the service was decent.

Delicious food and a beautiful place!

Must try when in Hue, food is original and very tasty. I recommend the pomelo salad, with basil and chili.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. Beautiful garden to sit outside, very quiet, away from the busy centre. Definitely worth the drive!

An excellent vegan/vegetarian restaurant outside the tourist area. You could call the appearence almost noble, everthing is pretty, neat and clean, although prices are pretty low. We tried several dishes (rice, noodles, tofu, mushrooms) and everything was amazing, really excelent. We paid about 200k dong (8 US Dollars) for 4 dishes and a bottle of water.

Seemingly not many tourists find their way to this restaurant and i think they don't have an english menu but there are pictures of every single item in the menu so you can simply choose something that seems attractive to you.

Pros: excellent dishes, noble atmosphere, low prices

Cons: no english menu (?)

Best Vegan Restaurant in Hue

I spend about half the year in Hue and I think this is the best restaurant.

Good food, pleasant garden setting, friendly, attentive staff. Standard dishes, plenty of choices, a cut well above the typical Vietnamese veggie restaurant. Try one of the springs rolls. Or the local pomelo (thanh tra) salad when it's in season (Late summer, fall).

The owner speaks English. The staff not too much, but not a problem. The menu has pictures and the staff is easy and accommodating. Good people down there.

Food I believe is all vegan. Some of the drinks have dairy. So make mention if vegan.

Pros: Very good food , Nice peaceful setting , Great staff

Very disappointing and upsetting

First of all, the man who took our order was very pushy and was suggesting the most expensive dishes of the menu.
The food was good but nothing special.
We were very surprised when we had to pay, we were overcharged for the appetizers (we took 2 green rice balls instead of 6, as he advised, and were charged for 6 pieces); before ordering we asked if the rice was included in our meal, he said yes, and on the check it was charged 15.000. Only found out once gone back home.
Also in the scooter parking of the restaurant there is a baby dog attached with a chain, he was very friendly to us but was frightened by his owner, and even more so by a stick the man would threatening him with. Obviously the dog is mistreated. Heartbreaking :'(
Reaaaal bad experience for us, don't recommend it.

Oasis in Hué

A must go! Top notch dining for reasonably cheap money. As mentioned before they having a hard time speaking English but don't worry the pictures are pretty good in the menu. Try the pineapple mango smoothie its amazing. Fresh Spring Rolls in two variations and some stuff you won't find anywhere else so fast. As I've been there only locals having Dinner there. Pretty Garden and quiet location. It's totally worth to take some time to go there. It's also easy to find because there are many signs leading you from the Main Street to the Restaurant. By the way Free Tea!

Beautiful meal in an even more beautiful setting

We enjoyed a great and very memorable lunch here with friends on a trip to Hue. The restaurant is in a hand carved ancient house preserved with love and care, set in a carefully cultivated garden. There is a small private pergola in the front and many koi fish swim in the courtyard pond.

The staff were friendly and efficient, the menu was extensive and had many Huê specialties that are sometimes rare to find, all completely vegan. All of the dishes tried were complex in flavour, had taken time and care to make and perfect. As a group of 5, we tried many dishes. Every dish was delicious.

It is one of my best eating experiences in Vietnam and I would thoroughly recommend making a special journey there.

The owner has obviously put love and care into the restaurant and it shows through the decor, staff training and amazing menu.

A wonderful model of a vegan restaurant offered with care, heart and soul

Pros: beautiful historic setting and decor, excellent menu and quality of dishes, a true gem find

Wonderful dinner at this a 100 year old house

The house was built by a mandarin under Duy Tan emperor's reign about 100 years ago. Truly gorgeous and authentic. Their guava salad is refreshing and the summer rolls are lovely. Hue vegetarian cuisine is know for using little fake meat and plenty of fruits like vả (ficus auriculata) and mít (jackfruit). Hue has a variety of rice papers and many styles of spring rolls as a result. Royal families were usually buhdist and therefore Hue vegetarian dishes are among the highlights of Vietnamese vegetarian cuisine.

a must try while in Hue

I was in town for a few days with my visitng family, and our first choice for veg food was closed. So we opted for San May as a second choice, and learned that this place should always be everyone's first choice. The restaurant is tucked away in a quiet location, surrounded by gardens and fruit trees. The menu has a wide variety of traditional Vietnamese dishes, all priced to local standards. The staff was attentive, and great. I've lived in Vietnam for four years now, and thought the food was insanely good. My family, three non-vegetarians visiting from overseas, left thinking this was one of the best restaurants they'd been to on their trip. We were all satisfied and full at the end of the meal, and our bill didn't exceed $15 (for four people!). Incredible. Some favorites were the fresh spring rolls, Bun Thai (vermicelli soup with Thai spices) Bun Thit Nuong (vermicelli dry with fresh herbs, grilled mock meat and fried spring rolls) and Bun Rieu (vermicelli in tomato based soup).

Pros: Food, Atmospher, Price

Imperial style gem in the north of city

We had a late lunch here. The atmosphere and the furniture of this restaurant are very beautiful.
There is no English menue, but there is a picture for each dish and the owner speaks English.
We paid about 170 k (~ 8 $) for 4 delicious dishes. Except for the smoothies and yoghurt, everything seems to be vegan.

Pros: Delicious food, Peaceful and relaxing environment, Friendly staff

Cons: A little hard to find
