3x in 3 days: says enough! - Edit

We were in a hotel just around the corner and loved this place! In the three days in Antigua, we had dinner here twice and lunch once. Didn't think it was epensive at all. I had the tofu taco's, a quinoa shawarma and a sandwich (bread specified as vegan) with tofu and eggplant. My boyfriend also tried the zucchininoodles and tortilla. The portions were really good, also for the drinks. Huge smoothies were not expensive, the beer unfortunately was. ;-) Also not all staffmembers were English speaking which caused confusion sometimes, though the menu was also in English. Oh and don't forget to go to the toilets... Those are a attraction itself.

Pros: Great food, Lot of vegan options, Good portions

Cons: Expensive beer, Too "alternative" for my taste

Amazing Baba Ganoush & Pita, etc. - Edit

This place is crazy expensive, but Antigua seems to be out of control expensive, and the food was incredible. We got the Samsara platter (65Q) and the sweet potato tortilla (42Q) and both were quite good. The baba ganoush was the MVP, but the quinoa balls and the salad that came with the tortilla were also excellent. Pita was also unbelievably soft and delicious. Really, the food was incredible, better than much of what we get back in NYC, and that's saying a lot. I also got the special coffee drink with cardomom, cacao, etc, whatever that is called and loved it, but my wife bitter-faced. It took a long time, even by Guatemalan standards, and the dishes came at very different times, which was fine for us, but it would be a bummer if you weren't sharing. The style of the cafe is great and they seem to have solved the problem of people asking for money at the window that someone was complaining about. They put chicken wire around the bars so it would be impossible to give money through the window. It was a bit of an annoyance to see them add 10% tip when it was just two people, but this seems to be the norm in obnoxiously touristic areas in Guatemala. Oh well, it just means they get less tip than I'd have otherwise given.

Pros: Incredible food, cool spot, owner's dog in cafe

Food Heaven! - Edit

I am in love with this place! I just ate the best meal of my entire trip through Central America at Samsara. I had the quinoa shawarma and the golden milk (made with almond milk). Both were incredibly delicious and I always love fusion cuisine, especially when it is so well done. I didn't see any meat on the menu, but maybe I just overlooked it?? Vegan items are clearly marked and there are vegan options for most dishes. There are also some nice sounding raw food options, including raw vegan cheesecake. They also sell some homemade products such as vegan cheese, coconut yogurt and chia bread. I loved the decor and mystical Indian/hippie atmosphere of the place. Staff was lovely, too. A BIG recommendation!!

Pros: Healthy and delicious food, Most dishes can be made vegan

Cons: Not cheap, but good quality

Overpriced ordinary food - Edit

This is a restaurant that is extremely pricey. We felt ripped off. The food is not bad-tasting, it is just really not that special and way too expensive. The only good thing is the chocolate balls sold at the counter. A nice atmosphere inside, which is good. But the food is not that good. They had "organic wine" which was clearly not.

Pros: Restaurant is small, easy to leave , food came quickly, not far from main square

Cons: fake organic wine, fake sharwarma, fake indian food

Great dining experience! - Edit

Lots of vegetarian and vegan options. Generous portion sizes. Fresh produce. Modern earthy decor. Ordered the vegan option for quinoa and tofu balls, kale+chick pea+hummus salad and vegetable crepe all for Q203. All absolutely delicious and ample food for 2 people. Would highly recommend this place. Moderately priced but well worth it! Will be returning again before leaving antigua for good! Owners dog in cafe who keeps to himself but may bother people with pet allergies. Sitting in the two person table next to the window was a little frustrating after the 5th group of people walking by were asking for money. If you would rather a peaceful and less frustrating dining experience, pick a table away from the window. Free wifi.

Best veg resto in Antigua - Edit

I really liked this resto. The dishes are more "vegan style" than Guatemalan. I loved the tofu tacos (more like guac tacos) and a quinoa bowl. Extensive smoothies which were great. I would have returned more often but their service was very slow. Mostly vegan meals with limited meat options.

Pros: delicious, fresh, lots of vegetables

Cons: slow service

This place is incredible! - Edit

If you're in Antigua, just GO. It's a bit out of the way, but not hard to find... very close to Rainbow Cafe. The owner (whose amazing photos adorn the walls) has come up with a very creative Ayurvedic-Chapin concept that works perfectly with the space. Although there are a few meat items on the menu – mostly sandwiches – the menu is full of interesting veggie and vegan dishes. Some are made with ghee but have a coconut/olive oil substitute clearly marked, and the friendly staff – some of whom speak English – are all very knowledgable about gluten-free and vegan alternatives. Some highlights: the veggie tacos(!!), the dum aloo, the quinoa croquets and other quinoa dishes, great bagels, soups, smoothies. If this place were all veg it would be an easy 5-stars. Check it out

Pros: delicious, creative, artistic, friendly

Cons: not 100% veg
