Many Options

This place claims that 20% of their menu is always vegan. I don’t know if that’s true, but there were at least 4 vegan options available on this visit and they were delicious. But be sure to get a sample before you commit, as some flavor combos might not be what you would expect.

Definitely give it a try in January

I love that their monthly flavors in January are all vegan! I tried some of their December flavor “the great cookie swap” and red velvet. I especially enjoyed the red velvet. It was very light and naturally dyed.

Pros: In January, a lot of vegan options

Cons: Expensive , Can be very busy

Dairy-Free Decadence

Salt & Straw's version of "Veganuary" is their "Dairy-Free Decadence Series"--five vegan flavors available during January. I chose Toasted Oat Milk & Cookies, which was good, but not worth waiting in one of the long lines often trailing out of the shop.

Warning: The waffle cones are not vegan, but the sugar cones are.

Pros: clearly-marked vegan flavors, free tastings

Cons: waffle cones are not vegan, can be busy

Sweet snack

I appreciate how many icecream places are now including vegan options, but they always tend to have only one flavor and use the same icecream scooper for non-vegan and vegan icecream. I thought the icecream was good but they only had two options at the time I went.

Pros: Price

Cons: Cross-contamination, Limited options

Best vegan sundae!

I got the roasted strawberry sundae and it was the best ever! I loved that there was more than one vegan ice cream option but kinda expensive for ice cream.

Best Vegan Ice Cream

Salt & Straw hands down has the best vegan ice cream I’ve ever had. It’s a really cool and hip environment with a ton of flavors. They had 4 vegan flavors, and they were totally cool with us trying all 4 of them. I’ve heard that you can try every flavor on the menu if you’d like. I’m not sure what base they use, but it was the creamiest vegan ice cream I’ve ever had. This is an ice cream chain so any Salt & Straw location will have the dairy free flavors. I got chocolate hazelnut and it was amazing.

Pros: Awesome flavors, Large scoops

Cons: Long line- but worth it!

Vegan flavors worth the wait in line

Don’t be deterred by the line that may start at the door and wrap around the corner. It will move reasonably fast, and will be worth the wait. On our visit, the web and in-store menus offered up three ongoing vegan options (chocolate mint; chocolate hazelnut; and strawberry coconut) and one unusual special (berry bean BBQ sauce). All were coconut milk based, and all were delicious. Flights of four flavors can be ordered. Staff greet customers while in line to offer up tastes of any indicated choices, and then take orders. This is a west coast regional chain that started in Oregon.

Pros: Several vegan options , Coconut-milk based, so rich and creamy , Several ways to order combinations

Cons: Often a line to wait in
