Do not recommend at all

The food was nothing special, but more than anything I have to warn you about this pompous [censored] of an owner/chef. I asked for water - willing to pay! - and he said he had pride and doesn’t let anyone have water until they have a first drink. Or as he says “only water for drunk customers”. I asked for tea and he said same rule - “you need to order a real drink and finish it before I give you that.” I don’t drink alcohol and I didn’t want soda - his only nonalc vegan drink - so he made me a lemon juice and sparkling water which, ok, whatever, I don’t see how that’s better than tea in his eyes but fine. Once we had a few dishes, my husband swallowed wrong and started to choke! He only had his sake in front of him, so since I had a bottle of water in my bag I quickly opened it for him. The chef FLIPPED OUT and said “I said no water! That is so rude to me!”
We explained that um he was CHOKING, and that we had already ordered drinks anyway as per his insane rule. Nope - not good enough. He said “I said no water and you disrespect me.” We kept explaining about him choking and asked what should we have done? And he said you should have told me and explained and asked me for water! And we said first of all, how do you ask for water while choking? You think there’s time to call you over? And second, you said we couldn’t have water! He kept yelling and saying no no. Not once did he ask if he was okay! He definitely has serious issues and shouldn’t be in a customer facing role. What a weird horrible jerk of a man. We left money to cover what we ate and left. Apparently he refused water to a pregnant lady too.

More than dining, an experience to be enjoyed

Expert chef cooked all meals in front of us. It is imperative to arrive on time, as all dishes are prepared live and in front of the customers.
Lots of theatrics involved which made the experience really engaging and fun. There are vegan options (maybe 4 out of 12 dishes are vegan tapas, so need to order 3 for 1 pax).
Highly recommend this establishment, just need to follow their suggestions so everything flows. We sat at the bar and was 100% the right choice

Pros: The live cooking, the human warmth, the food

Cons: very few slots and need reservation

Wow its very delicious

Great place with delicious food and a nice atmosphere! However, make sure to ask about vegan options, as not everything is clearly labeled. The staff is helpful, so just double-check before ordering

Fantastic

We didn't have a reservation (which is usually an absolute must!) but it was off season so we managed to get squeezed in by the owner. So glad we did, the food was fantastic. The chef is funny and eccentric, and explained everything he was doing to us. Eating vegan was easy here. I could just sit back and relax. What a special treat this was. Oh and the prices were decent, too!

Pros: Fun chef , Gorgeous food , Traditional setting

Sakurajaya.

The tofu steak was the best vegan food I’ve had in Japan . Vegetable and Mushroom tempura were absolutely delicious too. Very talented and eccentric chef who cooks all the food in front of you if you’re lucky enough to be seated at the bar.

Pros: Tofu steak, Tempura, Entertaining chef/ understanding of vegan needs
