You have to specify "no fish oil" - Edit
A lot of items that look like they would be vegan on the menu will have fish oil in their seasoning or sauce, so you need to ask about it and substitute something else instead -- they will usually recommend dumpling or hoisin, depending on the dish. Some dishes are can't be prepared without the fish oil, so make sure to ask when ordering.

Once you are aware of this, there's plenty here to try. I recommend the veggie & tofu vermicelli, and the crispy tofu.
Pros: Vegan-aware staff

Its different. - Edit
Got a bad first impression. Gave it a chance. The summer rolls were large and good. The spicy tofu was not spicy at all. May try again.

Ask for the vegan menu - Edit
They now have a single sheet, typed vegan menu. It can be a bit confusing with some of the entrees (like the Vegetable and Tofu Rice Plate) that would normally come with a sauce with fish in them. There’s a short list on the top, middle left of the sheet with sauces that you can have instead of the fish sauce (dumpling sauce, vinaigrette, etc). Ask your server if it’s not clear. The vegetable soup is great, Buddha’s Stir Fry is really good, and their vegetable spring rolls are usually really good (not too greasy). I also like the Vegetable Tofu Rice Plate with vinaigrette (which come on the side, the vegetables are sautéed in a light brown sauce).

Vegan options - Edit
It was a tofu, tofu, tofu night. We ordered Vietnamese salad with tofu, vermicelli with veggies and tofu and crispy tofu with rice. Some other veg menu options, such as potstickers, were not available. The food is fresh, portions are reasonable, spicing is tasty, and some specific menu items are listed as vegan. Other main dishes have tofu , instead of meat or fish, as an option, so there are a number of choices for vegetarians or vegans. The crispy tofu was delicious but the dish had very few veggies, so I recommend ordering other veg dishes along with it.
Read morePrices are reasonable.
There were a few glitches making and getting our order. 1.The restaurant is now only accepting phone orders , so we had to stand on the sidewalk outside the restaurant to call in our order. If that information had been on the website, we would have called in advance.
2. We had a rather frustrating conversation trying to ensure that any sauce, condiment, or additional ingredient would be vegan or plant based ( ie salad dressing or toppings). In the end, it worked out.
3. We were told we would get a call back when the order was ready. We didn’t, and eventually called the restaurant again. The order was ready, waiting to be picked up.
So, plan ahead and check carefully.

My favorite place in Ithaca! - Edit
Only a few vegan options, but they are excellent. Definitely recommend the Tofu and vegetable vermicelli (make sure to ask for the vegan vinegar dressing). The Pho Chay is also excellent; basil, sprouts, lime and dressing come separate so you can add to taste. The crispy tofu is also great, but make sure to ask for it vegan. These are our favorites, but there are many good options (Vietnamese salad, Spring rolls, and Summer rolls also very good). They do vegan well, but you need to specify. Very popular place, you might want to get your food to-go.

Excellent and inexpensive - Edit
This restaurant has quickly become my go to place for vegan fare. The restaurant is always packed. Excellent, inexpensive food! I would have given this 5 stars but the app doesn't allow you to give 5 stars unless it's a vegetarian restaurant.

Excellent Vietnamese meal and service - Edit
Went to Saigon Kitchen based on good reviews on Happy Cow and Trip Advisor and it was a fantastic experience and meal. Quick, friendly service and great vegetarian and vegan options including a vegetable pho. Highly recommended for a great meal. The restaurant is a bit small and noisy but personally I love that vibe. Check it out!

First time's a charm - Edit
Saigon Kitchen was in a guide put out by Farm Sanctuary which contained restaurants they recommended. We had to check this out while on vacation in August.
Read moreThis was my first time having Vietnamese food. I chose the Summer Rolls to start and my boyfriend had vegetable spring rolls. My boyfriend said his spring rolls were the best he's ever had.
I went for something authentic for my entree... I chose the vegan pho. I was given a plant of fresh bean sprouts, basil and lime. When the soup came out, the bowl was the size of my head. It was the first time in a long time that I could not finish a meal in a restaurant. if I had ordered that soup in Canada, I would expect to pay so much more for it.
My boyfriend really enjoyed his tofu dish.
The server was great, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was nice. It's worth visiting if you're a vegan in Ithaca.
Pros: inexpensive, pleasant atmosphere, delicious food
