Elegant ambience, delicious small plates

Unfortunately, despite a valiant effort, Sage & Cinder did not survive the pandemic. They will be missed. They brightened our hearts will many lovely meals with friends and family while they were here.

A brand new vegan restaurant north of Seattle with beautiful waterfront views near the Mukilteo to Whidbey Island ferry. Elegant atmosphere. Wonderful space to sit in the bar area and look out at the water. Extensive wine list. Nice spin on some classic cocktails. Small plates with lovely presentation. A nice happy hour, dinner, drinks and dessert choice. Recommend for leisurely savoring of new flavors.

The cashew blue cheese stuffed dates with vegan prosciutto were amazing! The stuffed pears with blue cheese were also very good. Many items can be made gluten-free--ask for the GF version.

They also serve a weekend brunch. Hurrah! Wonderful take on biscuits and gravy. Curry tofu scramble. Vegetable hash with hollandaise sauce The french toast is a must! Hurrah!

Now serving lunch!

Fantastic Flavorful Food

This is an adorable restaurant with very kind/friendly staff. There is an amazing view of the water from the patio. All food was beautifully presented with nice portion sizes. We ordered a couple cocktails that we’re delivered quickly and were super delicious. Would recommend to anyone vegan or not!

Pros: Cozy, comfy atmosphere, Amazing food that is all vegan, Rotating menu full of veggies

Cons: Slightly expensive for a casual dinner, Must make a reservation

Great brunch

My boyfriend and I love the brunch here! Okay got the cheesy grits and my boyfriend got the biscuits and gravy. Both were good but the biscuits and gravy were the best! I would recommend this play to anyone vegan or not!

Very good; unexpected for the area

We stopped in for brunch and had one of the better vegan brunches I've ever had. The whole place has got a very distinct crate-and-barrel french provincial vibe going--somehow, not what I expected in Mukilteo.

We had the benedict and the French toast. It's fairly dominated by the nutritional yeast taste, which can be a pretty expected for a vegan recipe, but nevertheless works very well. Potatoes were good. Would have appreciated having access to ketchup and hot sauce.

Coffee comes in little burnished coppertone decanters.

The french toast was also quite good. The "caramel pear" in the item is a fairly thin jam between two thick bread slices. A small complaint was that the whole thing was a bit on the mouthful-of-starch side, with the inside of the bread untouched by sauce. A little more pear, or the foccacia sliced more thinly, might be nice? Not to say that this isn't delicious.

Food came out very quickly. French toast somewhat unwieldy to eat on the diminutive plates; when the server came back around we asked for more plates, though by then we were mostly done with the meal.

This review sounds a bit quibbly, but the whole effect was very pleasant and i'm sure we'll be back every time we pass through.

Simply Good

This place is so delicious! My boyfriend and I both really enjoyed our meals, and especially loved the scone for dessert. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone! Especially because it’s one of a kind for the area.

Enjoyable

The place is nice and cozy .. we couldn't sit outside for lunch which was a bummer but it was okay... the food: not that many choices for lunch and the portions are on the smaller side so maybe ear a little bit before you come😉the service was very nice and the food arrived in a decent amount of time ... we will be back..

Pros: Not that many other vegan options around

Nice place great food

We had sandwiches and they were delicious. You can sit outside and watch the ferry come and go. There is also cozy indoor seating. There are a lot of stairs in the front but I noticed that there is a parking lot in back that you would get to from a different street.

Deck with Water View

Enjoyed gourmet vegan food that non-vegans would enjoy also, nice water view from the deck, charming setting in an older home.

We enjoyed lunch on the deck. Delicious grilled panini sandwich with melted cashew cheese, mushroom bacon, green tomatoes, etc. Also had the hearty vegetable stew soup.

Ideal for a leisurely lunch or dinner with friends, date or spouse. Not good if you are in a hurry. Just one waitress during lunch, so service takes time, but she was very friendly and helpful.

You can park on the street below (4 hr public parking) and walk up stairs to the restaurant or there are a few parking spots behind the home including a ramp for wheelchair access.

Pros: Whole menu is vegan , Charming setting in older home, Delicious interesting menu items

Cons: Parking is limited, mostly street parking , A bit expensive, but food is high quality , Service was slow at weekday lunch

Awesome vegan restaurant

This restaurant is 100% vegan and has a great view of Puget Sound. The food was awesome. I got the mac and cheese and it was amazing. The only complaint I have is that the waiter made me through away the drink I had with me when we arrived because she couldn’t be sure it was vegan despite me telling her that I am a vegan and that the coffee drink was made with almond milk. I get that many restaurants don’t allow outside food on the premises and that’s fine, but the fact that they specifically didn’t allow anything not vegan on their balcony and didn’t believe me when I said it was vegan was just really weird. The service was good otherwise.

Pros: Great view , Excellent 100% vegan food , Friendly staff

Share plates for the win

I like to try a bit of everything, so the share plate menu is just my style. Although the plates aren’t small - there is plenty of food to share! The outdoor patio views are astounding, the cocktails are creative and lovely, people dress up for date night. Yet it’s still affordable! The cheese/pickled veggie/cacao/olive/raspberry plate was enough for two. We still also over-ordered and got the soup, hummus and meatballs made of coconut and adzuki beans. Everything was lovely.

Pros: Affordable, Large portions, View

Cons: Soundtrack needs curating

Delicious food and amazing view

This adorable converted bungalow overlooks the water, and so just from that you know you're in for an enjoyable time. The food was absolutely delicious, though. Creative dishes, nice presentation, and not overly expensive given the vibe of the restaurant. Will definitely be back!!

Pros: All vegan, lovely setting.

Amazing & beautiful vegan dishes

Went for New Years dinner with another vegan friend. Every course was delicious and beautiful. However, for a family of three, it was way too expensive. Even for two people.

Pros: All vegan, Fantastic food

Cons: Expensive, Small building

Who knew?

I head out to Whidbey Island once a month and this great place is right up the hill from the ferry, which means I’ve driven right past it many times. Thank goodness I stopped yesterday and saw “vegan” in the sign. Had brunch with a friend and it was so tasty! Will definitely be back. (Oh, and the view is stunning.)

Pros: Great food, Amazing view

Awesome selection of vegan food! :)

My hubby and I went to do a celebratory lunch at Sage and Cinder. It was our first time but not our last. I just so happen to go on Mother’s Day and ordered to high tea for two. We also couldn’t wait to try the Tofu Benedict so we ordered that too. We were stuffed! Everything was great, I’m so happy to have a place to go that I know won’t make me sick as I’m super lactose intolerant. Great view too, and they have really nice outdoor seating when it’s not raining.

Pros: All vegan food, Nice staff

LOVE this place!

Very cute, quaint restaurant set in an old house. Views of the Sound. Outdoor seating. We shared the stuffed dates, sage polenta and our favorite, the wild mushroom bruschetta with blue cheese. Also got apple crisp for dessert. Everything was to die for. My boyfriend is a meat eater and thought it was one of the best meals he'd had in a long time. Can't wait to try the brunch menu, as well as the coming soon lunch menu! Staff was fabulous. Highly recommend this place, especially for a special date night.

Pros: Fantastic menu, adorable space, perfect for dates.

Cons: None

Fabulous!

This restaurant is in an old house with a view of the Puget Sound. The deck will be great once it warms up some. Super cute! Went for brunch on a Sunday. The French toast was fantastic, had a side of potatoes with hollandaise . The potatoes were perfectly seasoned. Our waitress was really nice and the food came out pretty quick! DEFINITELY a new favorite for this vegan!! Would be a nice place for a dinner date.

Food Exquisite, service needs improvement.

Food was exquisite. Service needs serious attention. We arrived and were seated right away. Service went downhill from there. 12 to 15 minutes after placing our order one of the entrees arrived, then 2 or so minutes later our drinks arrived. We then waited an additional 4 to 5 minutes for the rest of our order. 6 stars for the food, 0 stars for service.

Pros: Food, prices

Cons: Service
