Best Vegan Fine Dining Experience in Stockholm - Edit
Mathias Dahlgren’s Rutabaga turns food into a fine piece of art with exquisite tastes, host of alcoholic & non-alcoholic wines, amazing service, friendly staff which give a memorable experience.

A wonderful experience! - Edit
Such an inventive menu, with really well matched wines to go with the food. Not cheap, but well worth the experience. Great service too and a friendly atmosphere. How fun to be able to go fine dining as a vegan!

Fancy food - Edit
I had a great experience at this restaurant, the food was interesting and very filling. But of course, it was a bit pricey, especially the drinks (a glass of wine for SEK160). The pairing was fun, but it wasn't a lot to drink ... Fun to try but the next time I indulge in something like this, I'll try another place.

Interesting and (mostly) tasty experience - Edit
We had a very pleasant evening here, with interesting food and friendly service.
Read moreThe flavour combinations were all quite unique. Almost every course included an ingredient I normally dislike (e.g. mustard), but they somehow managed to transform these completely by balancing them really well with other flavours. (Not quite so for the lemongrass in de desert, which was a bit of a disappointment).
When we were there, only a set menu was available (other reviews/photos here seem to indicate otherwise), with a choice between small and large (the same must be chosen by everyone at the table). We chose the small menu and found it to be quite filling.
The drinks pairings didn't really work for us. The non-alcoholic drinks were nice by themselves, but we felt they didn't particularly add anything to the dishes they were served with. Our table companions were equally unimpressed with the wine pairing.
Overall an interesting experience, I would rate at 3.5* if possible, but given the price tag and somewhat disappointing drinks pairing, I'll have to round down to 3*.
Pros: Very interesting flavour combinations
Cons: Drinks not good value for money

A few shining stars amongst a lot of average - worth a visit - Edit
I went here with my mom one early evening. The staff was really friendly and we were placed next to each other at the table instead of in front of each other which was nice. I had the Eat Sweden Vego book so we both had the large vegan menu, and we also had the alcohol free drink package which was a very good choice. The food was served almost immediately and the service was impeccable throughout our visit, which lasted about 2 hours.
Read moreNow to the food. Some dishes were spectacular, like the coconut cream soup and the rutabaga puré, but most of them were just ok/good. I've had better experiences for similar price levels, and for that reason I would've given Rutabaga 2 stars if it wasn't for the drinks which raise my score from 2 to 3.
I'd say it's worth a visit but I will not be coming back.
Pros: Separate vegan menu, Wonderful alcohol free drink package

Not impressed - Edit
Had dinner here three times and one or two dishes have always been delicious, but the rest have been bland and boring. Not sure how this place can have such great ratings on here. If you are a lacto/ovo-vegetarian then things might be different as most of their dishes are, but the vegan menus always leave me disappointed.

I fell in love with this place and the mix of flavor combinations. We took the big package and it was worth it! Swedish flavors with a touch of asia and other influcensers like Italy. Magic place of flavors realy! A must if you are in Stockholm! Wow!

Exquisite meal, beautifully plated - Edit
Disclaimer: I normally eat vegan at home and vegetarian when I travel so that I don't starve. Rutabaga was the best meal I had in Stockholm. We got the small plate and some drinks. Everything we tasted was amazing and we were completely FULL after the main courses. Barely had room for dessert.

Outstanding in every sense - Edit
This restaurant, with separate vegan and vegetarian menus, demonstrates the possibility of creating a gastronomic experience that satisfies in every way. An adventurous, eclectic menu accompanied by perfectly matched wines delights throughout the meal. Well qualified table service. Excellent value for money. If you want to persuade friends that vegan food is tastier than anything else, just book a table at Rutabaga!

Vegan menu in a veggie restaurant - Edit
A very upmarket veggie restaurant inside the Grand Hotel. A small range of vegan dishes on a separate menu, as well as two desserts. The deep fried artichoke was super yum, and the hummus, bread, nuts and tomato nibbles plus the 'free' chocolate at the end of the meal almost justified the price. The service was lovely - the presentation was well done and

Much ado about nothing (really)... - Edit
Was here i April, but as I was a little bit confused about the place and therefor I haven't made a review until now...
Read moreSome of the dishes are really good, but some of the dishes surprises me (not in a good way).
To start: Even some of the drinks contain eggs!!! They explained that it was to make it more skimmy...
Even some of the dishes ARE eggs, or contain eggs - even raw...
As an egg-hater this pulls down my opinion considerably - why start a new restaurant that even has eggs in the food as vegan food more and more is the new standard?
Nevertheless - some dishes are really good. I really liked the pumpkin flavored with licorice -really delicious!
They change the menu from season to season, and they do have a lot of vegan choices (but not so many as it should be). And the waitress were really nice and made an effort bringing me an edited menu of what is vegan or not, but anyway I got a feeling that I demanded a little too much...
And yes, it is an exclusive place, but it doesn't become exclusive just because it is an expensive place.
Nevertheless I appreciate every place that serves mainly vegetarian food, just that I was expecting more out of this place.

Did not meet expectations - Edit
What you pay for here is a nice view (if you are one of the lucky ones at the windows), quality food, good service. It is true that the food is different from most other vegetarian restaurants in Stockholm, but if you''ve travelled around the world, and have experienced real vegan luxury dining, you might come to the same conclusion as I did: Much ado about not so much. I got the feeling the creator of this place and food has been around on the West Coast of the US too often. You can see the effort, but in the end the food lacks creativity and taste and the atmosphere in this place is not welcoming. Don't get me wrong, the vegan food was good, but I've just expected more.
