Poor. - Edit
No vegan options at all on the day we visited. Literally the only thing I could have was a pot of tea. I'm assuming that this is down to new owners as previous visits have been amazing. Also person on the counter was quite rude. I have mobility issues and we were pointed to the most awkward table despite there being lots of empty tables in a clear room. Never again.

Disappointed - Edit
Hardly anything we could eat. Portion far too small for the price. Gluten free bread had egg in it so all I could have was a mushroom burger, small portabella and side salad. Halfway through this measly fare I realized they'd forgotten the avocado that was promised on the menu. Had to ask them to bring that and a portion of hummus to fill me up. Not for gluten free vegans.

barely vegan - Edit
Some vegetarian options but don't think it can qualify for being very vegan friendly. The only vegan options were bits of veg you can have from the main breakfasts mixed together. They have soya milk but so does everywhere else. And no vegan cakes and the staff weren't very helpful or friendly when asking what I could have. It's a cute place for a coffee but I wouldn't eat here again .

Lunch in Whitby - Edit
My Wife and I went here for lunch on a Saturday around 1pm. It was very busy but we managed to sit at one of the reserved tables owing to the fact that it's occupants weren't due until 2:30.
Read moreThe specials board had one vegan meal that I could have which was the falafel wrap (well it wasn't vegan but they did it as a vegan option without the coleslaw). I was quite happy because I love falafel. It contained mango chutney and hummus too and I've got to say it was delicious. My Wife who is non vegan had a goats cheese tart.
They serve an outstanding variety of fun but it was a bit too early for alcohol so I opted for a sweet rhubarb tea which was most refreshing on the palate. The decor is really quirky and it was overall a pleasant experience.
Pros: Bustling atmosphere, Huge selection of gin and fruit tea, The vegan dish was delicious
Cons: Low vegan variety

Lovely spot! - Edit
I went to Rusty Shears after seeing it on Happy Cow as I was travelling to Whitby on holiday. This is a lovely quirky restaurant and I sat outside in the cute courtyard and had a mushroom and avocado burger which was delicious. Hummus was off the menu but as I had lots of it in my holiday fridge I didn't mind too much. There were no vegan cakes or deserts which is a shame and feel this is something could easily supply, even if just one type.

Cons: Could do with more vegan options!

Hey, they do a vegan cake death by chocolate, but it's catching it before it goes. x

Large Living Room Atmosphere - Edit
This is a very traditionally English cafe and tea room with a surprisingly acceptable offering for vegetarians and vegans. There's always a vegan soup on offer e.g. carrot and coriander. Not that imaginative perhaps, but very tasty. There is a vegetarian sharing board which you could have without cheese and a meat free main course which might be vegan on your day of visit. What I was most impressed with was the massive range of gins on offer. Unfortunately, we weren't drinking but I do like a gin and tonic on a summer's day and could have chosen from about 100 different types of gin on offer here.

Great place worth seeking out - Edit
At last another place in Whitby that serves a great selection of veggie friendly foods. The staff were great, plenty of savoury and sweet choices both on the standard menu and the specials board and the coffee was ok. It has a quirky feel and the food was delicious. Well worth seeking out.
