Such a delicious bakery

These cakes. Oh my goodness. I’ve tried the pistachio raspberry and the chocolate banana so far. I can’t wait to have them again and also try more. The cream is so light!

Friendly service and delicious cute cakes !!

The vegan cakes are cute AND delicious !! They offer a very large range of flavours (same cream outside but differents fillings).

The size is also very suitable for someone who likes generous portions (like me!).

They also have very interesting chocolate tablets.

I did not try any savoury food, they are made when an order is placed.

Please not that the place is NOT fully vegan, but maybe 90% is ✨️

The staff was really warm and welcoming !!!

Pros: Cute cakes that are also sooo good

Cons: Not fully vegan (almost there!)

Can only recommend stopping by

This was the absolute best vegan shop I’ve visited in Shanghai, everyone was so kind, we talked for a while and even took a picture together 😇 you can tell the whole team puts a lot of work and love into the shop!

I bought the delicious vegan burger, the cutest sea salt Oreo cake, cookies and chocolate! I even got to taste test the chocolate first, it truly melts in your mouth 🍫

Great bakery! (Mostly vegan)

This is a really lovely cafe run by two women who are passionate about Shanghai and helping people find great vegan food in the city. We got there for lunch and most of the cakes and pastries were fully sold out so try and go earlier in the day if possible. They offer burgers and hot dogs made from soy meat that they make in the kitchen. The best thing we had was the veggie pork bun! The two owners came and sat with us as we ate and chatted away. They then gave us a piece of their chocolate they make in house which was so good we had to buy more.

Very delicious vegan tartlets, but Bistro not fully vegan

This cafe offers truly exceptionally pretty and very delicious vegan tartlets. Burgers and hot dogs can also be purchased. Unfortunately, non-vegan items are sold here as well (e.g., croissants topped with meat and eggs). What you should know: you might get involved in a nice conversation and filmed while doing so, but afterwards, you will be asked if you agree to its publication on social media. As a thank you, you are then served a delicious piece of chocolate on a crown.

Pros: Wonderful tartlets, Nice area, Very nice English speaking stuff

Cons: Also non vegan Items available, Getting filmed suddenly

Great food and lovely service!

The food was amazing. I ate the vegan meat floss bread and the red bean bread in and both were delicious. The chocolate is also unmissable 😍 They were so good that I had to take away a cake and cookie too! The ladies working who run the cafe are also so kind and passionate about their work.
Just a heads up that it’s just around the corner of the main road and there is a cute white tent outside in case you don’t see it at first 😅

A Magical First Visit - World-Class Vegan Chocolate in Shanghai!

On my first trip to Shanghai, I stumbled upon this charming little bakery, and it turned out to be one of the most delightful discoveries of my journey! Specializing in vegan desserts, this place is an absolute gem for anyone with a sweet tooth.

While everything looked tempting, what truly blew me away was their chocolate. I had no idea I was about to taste something so extraordinary! The staff later told me it's their signature product, and now I completely understand why. This is genuinely world-class chocolate—the texture is unbelievably light, smooth, and melts in your mouth like a soft, velvety cloud. Absolutely divine!

The shop itself is beautifully designed and cozy, making it a perfect spot to relax. To make the experience even more special, I visited on International Women's Day, and the staff had organized a fun little activity. I ended up winning a surprise gift in their lucky draw! Such a thoughtful and heartwarming touch.

If you're in Shanghai and looking for exceptional vegan desserts, especially that signature chocolate, don't miss this place. A wonderful experience I'll always remember!

A Fancy Bakery in Shanghai

Absolutely worth the five-star rating! It’s not easy to find such a refined and uniquely flavored vegan bakery here in Shanghai, and VedicBakery is truly a hidden gem.
The handmade chocolates are especially, especially, ESPECIALLY delicious—absolutely incredible!
The service is warm and attentive, and the atmosphere inside is just wonderful.
Their vegan cakes are not only beautiful to look at but also made with real quality.
Highly recommend a visit—you won’t be disappointed!

Not 100% vegan as advertised

This is maybe a 99% vegan restaurant. I asked the staff when I entered if everything was vegan, they said yes, and I said good because I’m vegan. However then I tried to order a piece of cake they had on display and they told me sorry that item isn’t vegan. It was a basque cheesecake. Good news is they let me know, bad news is the place shouldn’t be listed as a Vegan establishment on HappyCow and the signage claiming it to be a Vegan Bakery is not accurate.
The same staff member also asked if they could take a video of me, which from other reviews I’ve read on HappyCow is apparently something they try to get all foreigners to agree to. I declined, but the entire vibe was weird. I will not be back.

Pros: Mostly vegan

Cons: False advertising and lack of commitment to vegan, Pushy with customer video gimmick

Nice little place

Had a bread with read beans (mochi was in it too) which was good and not too sweet and one hot caramel latte (unfortunately no taste of caramel) and the iced lychee sparkling americano which was very interesting - i liked it! I didn' try one of the cakes or bread, but everything looked delicious!
Staff spoke english and explained everything to me. Very friendly. Also one of them asked if she can have a seat with me and i had a really nice chat with her.
They also asked if i wanna try their chocolate praline while they make a video of the tasting. I was okay with it (but i think the chocolate is only free if you're okay with the video haha).
Prices are a bit expensive in my opinion, because the drinks were small.
Also in plastic, even i didn't have a take away and stayed at the cafe. Would be nice if they change to reuseable cups.

Pros: Good variety

Cons: Bit expensive

They probably use the video for their advertising so they’re not giving away free stuff that easy, weird strategy tho in my opinion

Tasty food and coffee, but don't eat here if you have allergies

A great selection of pre-made individually wrapped buns and cakes. If you purchase 5 buns you can get a sixth for free. Some flavours include "pork" floss, mashed potato with "ham", original (lightly sweet), purple sweet potato, and red bean.

They also have individually wrapped cookies in a bag, great for souvenirs. The tasty sandwich (made to order) has only one option which includes vegan tuna and ham.

Even though there's not a lot of seating, outside is sheltered from rain.

Be aware there's no English menu besides the drinks menu, so you'll need to spend time to use internet to translate if you don't speak or read Chinese.

If you have egg or shellfish allergy, I do not recommend you eat here as my travelling companion had a reaction to the sausage bread even though the staff stated no animal products are used, and the name sign outside indicates this place is vegan.

Pros: Extensive selection of savoury and sweet options, Coffee was quite good, Great tasting food

Cons: Cross contamination lead to allergic reaction, Not a lot of seating

Baked goods variety

Ru fuzhi is a very small bakery offering a variety of baked goods, a few sandwiches options and drinks. I had two of their sandwich options (tasted great) and two of their baked goods (unsure of the name). The baked goods were a bit dry, but super soft and had a (dry) filling inside. The staff were nice and patient as I asked about their goods using a translator.

Various choice

We took 3 different cream cakes, on sandwich, the non-chocolate nut cookies, a coffee brioche and a bretzel.

The texture of the cream from the cakes is amazing, it has neither a strong soy nor coconut flavour unlike a lot of them, and it’s very airy.
The cake with the maple leaf lack of taste imo.
The chocolate one was very interesting as it had banana pieces and little crunchy balls.
Haven’t eaten the blueberry one yet.
The sandwich was delicious.
The cookies were awesome too.
The coffee brioche has a good texture and the coffee taste is not too strong.
My friend was a bit disappointed with bretzel, said it was kinda too chewy.
They gave us some panettone to taste, it was super delicious!

Definitely recommend if you’re looking for vegan pastries in Shanghai.

They are also on Meituan, I am not sure if everything is available for online delivery.

Carb lovers and sweet treats paradise

Some things labelled in English but mostly in Chinese which you can use an app to translate but the staff also know limited English to help. Many items still available in the evening, I’m surprised this hasn’t got more reviews as it’s a paradise for the vegan carb and sweet treat lovers here! There’s a mix of traditional Chinese and Asian buns and sweet things like egg yolk and red bean, with soft breads. There are also patisserie like cakes, coffee, and cookie things. I got a dark chocolate bread which has a dark chocolate filling, never found something like this before but it was super yummy! And great value for 18RMB.

In terms of finding the location, look through the reviews here to help because depending on the map apps you’re using it might be inaccurate - and currently on HappyCow listing (at time of posting) it vaguely is very inaccurate. It’s the first on the left of a little complex/street off the main road. On Baidu maps it’s listed as 汝福智素食烘焙 - 黄浦区蒙自路207号1层11栋5号. The opening times as clarified with staff are 8am to 9pm.

Pros: Friendly staff, Hidden gem , Loads of vegan options

Cons: Small seating areas

Beyond conceivable expectations

This place has an incredible variety of baked goods and sandwiches as well as great coffee. It has a veganized version of basically every traditional Chinese sweet and then a lot of amazing others. The coffee prices are comparable to any chain & the food is comparable to any higher end sit-in restaurant. They have nice but limited seating!

it took me an hour to find it with the map here, so here are better directions until it's updated:

If using Google:
https://maps.app.goo.gl/xtwFG481Eu1XJnzRA

You can put "the one take coffee" into your maps if you're using Amap or another one better in China.

I've also attached a picture you can show people in the area in case you need help.

Pros: Great service , Delicious food & coffee, Good prices

Fully vegan bakery, a must visit!

Super delicious and very many choices. We got a few different options, including a traditional "egg bun" and all was so tasty...especially their tiny cakes with a real depth of flavor to them. Coffee was also spot on! Looking forward to our next visit to try more of their sweet and savory items.

Pros: Fully vegan, Food is both artistic and tasty, Very fair pricing
