Tasty and filling vegetarian food - Edit
We had several great curries, great pakora and momo (recommend this in the soup) and freshly made nan. The atmosphere is not that fantastic perse but staff was friendly and having a proper good vegetarian meal in Japan is something you can really miss. And the food here is really good, had Indian food in Osaka as well but this one was better and offered more choices as well.

Average! - Edit
We went here because everywhere else with options was closed. They only had one option that was vegan which was the dhal. The nan was not vegan. We also got vegetarian pakoda and momos. They were yummy. Staff seemed to have understanding of vegan. Just wish there was more options!

Uncooked curry and horrible service - Edit
We weren’t happy with the service here - we had to ask for everything, including menu and a plate to eat. They did not serve us any water either.
Read moreThere are 4 curries that can be made vegan on request. The only vegan side dish available is rice. The nan is not vegan.
In terms of the food - the vegetable curry was so uncooked that the onions (which were cut into massive pieces) were still raw and crunchy in it. The dal did not have any taste.
Spare yourself from going to this restaurant - there are probably better options in Takayama.
Pros: Open until late
Cons: Uncooked food, Not tasty, Horrible service

Good options - Edit
They have 3 vegan curry options, and some of the side dishes are also vegan. Just ask specifically about each dish (told us only about the curry when we first said we are vegan).
Read moreYou can choose the spice level (sweet is 0, normal 1, then a few spicy levels) for the curry. For someone who don't eat spicy at all, the normal level was also a little spicy. Just a little though, so it was ok.
Sadly, all the Nan (pita) contains milk, so couldn't try it.

Great Pakoras - Edit
We loved the pakoras here and enjoyed the rest of our meal, which consisted of samosas, chana masala and bhindi masala. Unfortunately the naan are not vegan. Staff spoke English and were very helpful in advising what could be made vegan.

Plenty of veggie options, I had a delicious fried dal curry. Great potions to keep you going! Staff amazingly friendly, pointing out that I had over paid after a slight issue understanding the currency. Would recommend the chana masala aslong it was so tasty!

Tasty variety for a fair cost - Edit
Vegetarian curries were really tasty and servings and variety were more than generous (especially with the vegetarian sets). Nice and fresh tasting as well. Not sure how you would go as a vegan though. And I felt bad for the staff tonight as they were a bit under the pump- if it’s busy, be prepared to wait.

Trying the curry-menu, the salad wasn't vegan (as the waiter told me while serving) consisting of Ketchup and Mayo. But the curry with rice was delicious! Samosa served with Ketchup were rather boring

Soooo good - Edit
Would have given 5 stars if I was allowed. Had the special vegetarian set. Comes with two curries, salad, rice, a samosa and a pakora. I had the Chana masala (amazing) and the dal. 100% would recommend. Although a little pricey it was worth it. Good portion and the staff knew what vegan was. Unfortunately they advised the naan had milk in it which was a shame because it looked soooo good.

Tasty Indian - Edit
There's 3 options for vegans, the potato curry, chana curry and dahl. Potato and chana are similar so we opted for the potato and dahl together with garlic rice. Very nice dishes especially the garlic rice. The garlic rice was a bit pricey though. The waiter knew to exclude any dairy products and made our food fresh. Location close to train station.

Deserves 5 stars - Edit
This restaurant deserves 5 stars, but happycow only lets us give it 4 since it's not all vegetarian or vegan.
Read moreThe food was truly delicious. It was honestly the best meal I've eten in a year. For those who eat diary and honey, we recommend the cheese and honey naan, it was the best naan I've ever had. The service was good, all staff was very kind and helpful. Good English. There was many vegetarian options on the meny, which were easy to find.
Overall an amazing experience. Especially for the vegan or vegetarian who've had a hard time finding food in Japan. If you happen to have a stay in Tanakawa, this is a must do!

Make this a priority - Edit
Vegans breathe a sigh of relief. Although I didn't expect to eat Indian/Nepalese food on a holiday in Japan, this is a gem you should get to. The food is fairly priced and the serving size is fantastic. It is also delicious, delicious food. The vegetarian dishes are basically vegan but just ask for no cream or butter and you should be fine.
