Not good

My husband and I went to Roots on a weeknight, and we were the only customers in the restaurant for the entire evening. The waitstaff was inattentive - they never checked on us unless they were bringing food out, and we had to ask for more water.

The food itself left much to be desired. My husband ordered more meat-forward dishes, I ordered vegan dishes, and we shared some vegan dishes as well. Both of us were were unimpressed. Roots’ menu layout and worldly dishes bear a striking resemblance to other well-known restaurants in Denver, but the dishes at Roots lacked in flavor, quality, and ingenuity that the Denver restaurants maintain. The house-made hummus was good, and the brussel sprouts were fine. One of the laziest approaches to making vegan dishes is deep-frying everything, and when the vegan tofu kabobs appeared in front of me entirely deep-fried, I was disappointed to say the least. The desserts were the biggest let-down; the chocolate cake tasted like it had been in a freezer for four weeks and then defrosted, and the Swedish cheesecake was not good. Overall we spent far too much money here for such a mediocre meal. Will probably not return.

Pros: Some vegan options

Cons: Too expensive for the quality , Inattentive staff

Just ridiculous

They have a vegan menu and just can’t get it right. First our two dishes came out with dairy, and then when they replaced them, the falafel gyros had NO falafel! They also put cheese on the fries. Ugh! We were so clear and the waitress understood. Also, the place feels like a bingo hall at a church which is not good enough for the prices. Folding chairs, really? And very loud. Not at all what we hoped for.

Oh and btw we were warned by a vegan friend that they put dairy in her food, and that she wouldn’t go back. Funny same thing happened to us.

The cauliflower wings were good but for the cost it’s better to go to Native Foods.
