Rootcandi
Re-opened Mar 2016. Billed as the first vegetarian tapas restaurant in the UK, this place was est. Jul 2015 upstairs from Iydea Vegetarian Cafe; then in 2016 it expanded onto both floors, and Iydea was shut down by the owners (same). Everything on the menu is vegan. Open Mon-Thu 12:00pm-9:00pm, Fri-Sat 12:00pm-10:00pm, Sun 12:00pm-6:00pm.

The food was amazing! Lots of different options. The desserts delicious and the Cappuccino perfect! Unfortunately the waitress was lazy and slow! 100 stars for the kitchen staff! We will be back very soon... Hope we won't get upset with lazy and dirty service...
Cons: Very good price for all the delicious variety of f

Beets all udders - Edit
An extensive and diverse menu which warrants multiple visits. Great cocktails, concoctions and standard bar safe with exemplary vegan credentials.
The Beetroot Date Espresso is the amazing.

Wow - Edit
This is quite simply the best vegan restaurant we have been to in England. Everything from the staff to the food was outstanding. We went for the Indian style tapas and were blown away by just how good it was. The deserts too were fantastic. We could not fault this place in any way. A little bit more expensive than some places but we are talking high end dining and worth every penny. Really looking forward to going back to Brighton because we will defiantly be doing back here.
Pros: Outstanding food , Great staff, Ambiance
Cons: Non

Awesome vegan food - Edit
My standards are pretty high... so it really excites me to find a place with such a gorgeous energy. The food is fabulous. It's a tapas restaurant so you can sample lots of different things all in one go. Quite a treat for the senses. A medley of different colours and a dance of flavours to excite the palate.
Everything is vegan - yay! They also offer loads of well labelled gluten-free options (many of which come as standard).
I enjoyed the Asian sharing tapas with my husband. It comes in bowls arranged at different heights (see the piccies). The only problem is deciding what to tuck into first.
Can't wait to go back next time I am in Brighton.
Pros: Delicious Food, Good variety of choice

amazing! - Edit
Some of the best food I have ever tasted!
I went for the lunch meal alone and have to say for a restaurant style environment I was very comfortable eating solo!
I opted for tamales, which were served with courgette fritters and a mango and black bean salad. It was all so delicious and reasonable too at just under 10£
Looking forward to going back already!
Pros: delicious , unique options , good value for quality
Cons: none

Had a lovely evening with our non-vegan friends there who were deeply impressed and not missing a thing. All of us absolutely loved it, the food was excellent, also very nicely presented. Huge bonus for allowing our dogs to come along - perfect evening, thanks a lot!

Cons: nothing, except that it is in Brighton, -, -

So freakin' good!! - Edit
I just ate here tonight, and wow! I'm tempted to go back again tomorrow! There are so many great dishes to choose from, and even though it's a tapas place, the portions for each plate are good. I had three plates and dessert, and I'm actually a little too full - and I have a HUGE appetite! My three dishes were fantastic, but I will dream about my dessert - the chocolate tart - forever. Oh. My. Gosh! Don't miss this one!
Pros: amazing food, friendly service, best dessert ever!!

Absolute heaven - Edit
Went here for our anniversary. The food is absolutely heavenly. It's billed as 'vegan tapas' but that doesn't begin to cover it: what you get is a selection of perfectly balanced small plates from a range of world cuisines.
We had the pan-Asian selection which was some of the best food I've had anywhere, especially the tofu and broccoli in Japanese sauce which was just to die for. Desserts are ambitious, e.g. aquafaba-based pavlova with coffee mousse.
Atmosphere is great; service is warm, friendly and efficient. Could not recommend this place more highly.
Pros: Amazing food, Nice atmosphere, Great service
Cons: N/A

One of the best desserts I've ever eaten - Edit
Went here for a late lunch, I didn't do the tapas, I was on the lunch menu. I had the beetroot burger with courgette fries and garlic aioli. Burger was small but well-formed, it actually tasted of beetroot too. Fries were basically tempura vegetables, delicious - and the aioli was lovely. But the dessert - chocolate and ganache tart with a mixed nut and date base, salted caramel, spun sugar and vanilla ice cream. Absolutely outstanding. The base, the salted caramel - amongst the best desserts I've ever eaten. I didn't know vegan could be this good. Looking forward to plenty of return visits.
Pros: desserts, simple mains done well
Cons: not cheap

Amazing vegan tapas, not just for vegans - Edit
We went for a 2 for the price of 1 lunch which was great value. The restaurant has now taken over both floors of what was Iydea (the original branch is still in the North Laine), just a 10 minute walk from Churchill Square Shopping Centre and on many bus routes, so ideal for visitors to the city. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the restaurant felt relaxed and we were able to sit by the window and watch the world go by. We were able to take our pram in there and a high chair was provided. The food is tapas, and is so well thought out and beautifully flavoured. If you are taking a meat eater I don't think they would feel hard done by, as you wouldn't miss the meat, so would be a great place to take a mixed group of people for a special meal. The food is beautifully presented and they will describe to you what each dish is when its served. It's somewhere to go for a romantic meal, special occasion or if you fancy treating yourself; there are cheaper places but for the quality of food it is well worth the money. We will definitely go back again.
Pros: Delicious flavoursome food, Beautifully presented, Great for non-vegans too!
Cons: Slightly pricey

Vegan Tapas in Smart Restaurant Setting - Edit
This restaurant is a treat! Great service with very attentive staff. A broad menu clustered into themed tapas collections. There are some great deserts too. Not the cheapest but a special experience.
Pros: Elegant setting , Interesting menu, Vegan pavlova
Cons: Pricey?

best tapas place - Edit
Really cool vibe. You can either order from a set menu of tapas or mix and match. We did the latter - recommend the Black bean fritters, zucchini fries
the service is also really good. make sure you book ahead

Special meal out - Edit
This is somewhere to go for a special and different meal out, partly because of the price but also because they have made a great effort with the setting and presentation to make it feel special.
All the dishes were beautifully presented and very different but complementary flavours.
Pros: vegan , special meal out for events/celebrations, presentation
Cons: pricey!

High Quality Vegan Food - Edit
Great quality food, had the European tapas selection, as its hard to find good quality European vegan food! Everything was very yummy :) Fairly good value for tapas. Also had the poached pair for dessert, absolutely delicious!

Delicious all vegan tapas. - Edit
Rootcandi seems to be a newish restaurant above the Iydea cafe. The atmosphere was great and the staff were extremely polite and well informed, happy to talk about all the dishes and asking for feedback. All the food on the menu was vegan, so it was great to have so much choice. The menu was broken up into sets of dishes from around the world. We had the Asian selection, but all equally sounded lovely. I would definitely recommend the carrot dumplings, which were delicious! As was the fruit tart and ice cream. Would definitely recommend.
Pros: Polite and helpful staff, Delicious food from around the world
Cons: None!

The most amazing food I've had in the UK! - Edit
Not sure what to write, but yesterday was an experience of taste sensation.
I've been to most of the vegan friendly restaurants in Manchester, Glasgow and London, but this is simply the best food I've had so far.
