Healthy versions of comfort food

Not so easy to find, since Google Maps put the location given by Happy Cow in a different building on this cute pedestrian walkway of hip and arty shops, bars, cafes, and boutiques. But there are some small signs on some of the buildings that point to "3" (which is the correct building).

I enjoyed everything I had here. The Aussie Burger was super tasty. And the B Fries were also nice for comfort food. And the chocolate ice cream was wonderful. All vegan, despite the look of cheese and cream.

There is a pile of English and Chinese menus at the cash register, where you order. The person at the register didn't know English, but was super friendly and helpful.

Pros: Good vegan food

It’s the only place in Beijing that has delicious western style vegan burgers.

Food is great, service was terrible

It was my first time there. I went there because I tried a burger at vegan festival so I wanted to try more. The food is fine but the service was really terrible. I don't know if I come back ever again.

Great Western food!

Went the other day with my Chinese girlfriend who never eats Western food and who has always disliked any vegan burgers I've made her try. She had the meaty and said it was so nice! (She's not veggie so doesn't usually have meat). I had a different one which I can't remember the name of, which was also really nice. Was very impressed with the food and the menu and was on par with anything I've had here in London (or anywhere else). Prices were pretty good imo, though obviously may be a bit expensive by Chinese standards. Think my burger was 48rmb.

Just as a note, we found it difficult to find even with my girlfriend being a native who could understand the Chinese address listed here. It's basically sort of round the back of the art museum, past a statue of some pigs eating at a dinner table. It's not on/by the main road, it's sort of on an alleyway behind the buildings that line the main road.

Pros: Great food just as you'd find in any place in West, Cheap compared to western prices, Menu was in English and Chinese

Cons: A bit far away from the centre, Quite a few flies flying about

Best vegan food ever!

This was truely one of the best lunches I’ve ever had, and I was prepared to pay more because of it. We had the bajaja burger, the sunrise in Phuket salad and the carnita quesadilla. All were amazing. We also had a green smoothie and the chocolate date smoothie. Highly recommend this place.

Pros: All vegan, All delicious, Great atmosphere

Cons: More expensive... but worth it.

Revamped since last review

I deleted my old review Root Pop because alot has changed since then (for the better) My last review had lots of complaints, but now Im here to rave about it. We got the Animal style burger, although small, it had a delicious cheese sauce on it, which is hard to find in vegan restaurants in Beijing. Next we got the Chicago hotdog. It mimicked the flavor of a hotdog because of the condiments, but on its own it kinda tasted like bland spam. It was served on a toasted corn bread hotdog bun, which was confusing. I wouldnt get it again, but I suggest giving it a try. Last, was the chili cheese fries, they were perfectly cheesey and crispy, I highly recommend it.

My Favourite Vegan Takeout

Although I haven’t been to this restaurant, I’ve ordered takeout several times, which has never disappointed.
Although it’s a little pricier than some of the other places, all the dishes I’ve tried have been delicious. There’s a varied menu with vegan “junk food” (burgers, etc) as well as really great salads & wraps. Hope to work my way through the whole menu, and maybe one day venture to the actual restaurant!

Feels Like I'm in the States! Cute menu design

Root Pop had a very hip vibe, and with a small but impactful menu, I was able to try something other than my normal veggie burger. The tempura dog was so good and unique, and my mom tried the caesar salad which was really quite authentic from my memory of caesar salads. We got parmesan fries (I wanted to try the "Animal" Style ones, but I knew my mom wouldn't be a fan) and they were delicious!

I absolutely love that the menus had the animal terms crossed out, so the "animal" style fries, hot "dogs", etc. had the word animal/dog with a strike through it, very cute touch.

They have soft serve ice cream, but the machine was broken when I was there, unfortunately. However, they were really nice and once they got it up and running (kinda) they gave us an extra bowl of ice cream on the house! The machine was still a bit wonky so the texture wasn't perfect but the flavor was great.

If I'm ever in Beijing again, I will definitely stop by here for more burgers and dogs (and nachos and fries).

Pros: Food is delicious and realistic, Marketing/ design is cute, Upscale version of classic burger shop

Cons: Pricey, Limited seating

Amazing place and delicious food

I was in Beijing when Root Pop first opened, I attended its grand opening and it was a great experience.

During my 1-month stay in beijing I went to Root Pop couple of more times trying out different new dishes launched and all were delicious!

Root Pop's menu has since been updated again with many more great options including vegan Paella!

Pros: Amazingly delicious vegan food beautifully present, outside seats perfect for summer, Wines are really good

Cons: None, None, None
