Delightful - Edit
Personal pizza was amazing. The crust was the best gluten free pizza crust I've ever had. And their chocolate brownie was decadent and so yummy. This place is an hour and a half from where I live and a friend just introduced me to it. I may have to make the drive once a month to eat some of their delicious food.

Healthier vegan food - Edit
They have nicely thought out menu, quality food and friendly staff. Was disappointed in their breakfast offerings.. seemed to be a soy avoiding place. The $5 coffee crumb muffin was small and not very scrumptious - and I didn’t notice crumbs.

Amazing! - Edit
We love the food here! It’s clean, healthy vegan food, but it’s also absolutely delicious! Anytime we are in the area we make it a must to stop here. For gluten free folks, they have a ton of fabulous options, particularly their gluten free sourdough bread. The chocolate chip cookies are fantastic!

Everything here is vegan and gluten free. I’m not gf but the gf products they serve actually taste good! Everything I’ve tried here was delicious. There’s not a lot of seating, it’s more like a store but in summer they have outdoor tables too.

Clean yummy vegan food - Edit
Cute small cafe with a big menu, it all sounded so good so we looked at Happy Cow reviews for what to order, and decided on the Mulligatawny soup plus the plain Mac n Cheese.
Read moreThe soup was the large portion and it was HUGE, much more than I expected for the price and it was savory and delicious, served with a piece of bread, we couldn't finish it, took the rest home and it was just as yummy the next day. The Mac n Cheese was also delicious, we got the small and it too was a good-sized portion, this we devoured! I would definitely order a large next time if I'm sharing and try one of the many options listed for add-on fillings. It isn't going so much for the perfect imitation of a baked super cheesy Mac n Cheese, rather it was lighter, super flavorful and tasty.
We bought a chocolate chip cookie to go and I wanted to get a chocolate chunk scone too because I read these were both don't miss items but the chocolate chunk scones were sold out so tried a blueberry one, I wasn't a fan of the consistency myself of the scone but the cookie was spot on!
We'll definitely be back to try more of the menu. The person who took our order was very friendly and happy to answer questions, they told us they make their own cheese and are starting to make their own butter, their focus is on serving the cleanest, tastiest plant based dishes and in a world of mock meats and vegan fast food, this was a lovely change for us.
I don't really understand people who think this type of quality food being cooked fresh for you is overpriced here, the portions were huge! Or complaints that the cafe was small, there were 5 or 6 tables and it's a cafe, so that seems about right to me, when we were there on a Sunday afternoon there were plenty of places for us to sit and at no point was every table occupied. They seemed to do a lot of take out business during our stay.
They make smoothies, coffees and also have a small shop where you can buy shirts with cute vegan slogans (ex. Friends not Food), some vegan pantry items, to go items and overheard a customer come in to buy their homemade chocolates too!

Very cute and healthy cafe! - Edit
Absolutely loved this little place! Everything on thé menu was very creative and healthy. I had the mushroom toast (super flavorful and filling) and then we also got the grilled cheese and Dan Dan noodles. There’s a bunch of baked goods at the counter - we got the apple cider donuts, which were fantastic. The cafe is pretty small but they have coolers with pre-made dishes, dressings and sauces. Highly recommend!

I travel from queens for this.. that’s how amazing!!! - Edit
100% gluten free and vegan!! Some of the best, freshest food you’ll ever have. I travel from queens to westchester at least once a month. Their breads freeze like a dream. Their baguette is purple (made with psyllium husk) & their other things like Mac and cheese also freeze well. I stock up and you’ll see why when you go!!

Root 2 Rise is great. The menu is entirely vegan and gluten-free. It's both a bakery and a small restaurant, serving food throughout the day. It's a casual eating experience. There are small tables in and outside. There is clearly a lot of thought put into what goes on the menu and how everything should be prepared, and it shows in the presentation and taste. I also love that everything is served in compostable paper boxes.

Cute place with great food - Edit
Root2Rise is super cute inside, we liked all of the food we got and definitely want to come back. The mushroom toast was really outstanding. I appreciate that they apparently source local and organic ingredients, I’m not sure if that applies to all the menu items or not. They are definitely pricey for the portion size, the mushroom toast (which is 1 slice) was $12 and the Dan Dan noodles $20. That’s as much as I would expect to pay at a sit down restaurant. If it wasn’t for the prices I would give them 5 stars. They could also be more environmentally conscious by offering reusable plates, cups and utensils instead of single use for dine in customers.

Surprisingly Good - Edit
1st time here. Metered parking available. Friendly staff. Dine in available. All glitter free and vegan and organic. Ordered the Dan Dan Noodles (nice portion size - distinctive flavor), spicy Thai Peanut Ramen (mild and I like it that way - unique flavor),mulligatawny soup (delicious),vegetable panini (good portion size - would have liked if they cut it in half), garlic bread with cheese (decent - not sure I would get this again. Served with marinara sauce but the sauce was cold - threw me off), and brownie bite (small square of tastiness). I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed each item I ordered. Very much looking forward to coming back here.
Read moreUpdate October 2022:
Back again. This time I tried black lentil soup & it was delicious. I’ve had two of their soups and both have exceeded my expectations. I ordered a vegetable panini to go (2nd time having it). Just as good as the 1st time I had it. Tried their garlic bread with cheese. Again, it comes with cold marinara sauce. I also tried something new (to me) - their buffalo tofu pizza. It’s not a traditional pizza crust or dough. It’s thin. It’s spicy. It’s not something that I enjoyed nor would I get it again but that’s my personal preference … not that it was made poorly. They have enough options where I would like to come back and try something else - and I am definitely coming back for more soup.

Definitely one of the best new (upscale fast casual) vegan restaurants in NY state! Indian fusion fare and baked goods served with lots of fresh plant based love in a very well designed space In lovely Pleasantville - close to a very cool bike shop.

Outstanding, extraordinary, a destination! - Edit
We are from Princeton, NJ, and we traveled nearby to go to a concert at the Caramoor Music Festival. On our way to our destination, we found this restaurant on Happy Cow. In the end, we ended up taking most of our meals here (three!), just because of the sheer quality and diversity of the offerings.
Read moreThis is an amazing vegan restaurant. It is vegan, local, gluten-free.
Strongly recommend the paninis. I got the roasted vegetable one with the peashoot guac, my partner got the green pesto — they each tasted like their own thing, but both were so divine they were eaten before I could take a photo. We ordered them again and again.
But we also loved: The Kale-Caesar Salad, the lasagna, the grilled cheese sandwich, the fresh cut fruits. We can't wait to try more.
On our third visit, we got to meet the owners. It turns out the founder, Jyoti Tewani, is this incredibly caring and thoughtful person, who had been in the kitchen for every one of our meals, and she vets every product carefully. For instance, she vets the product they sell off the shelves. She tastes every batch of juices that her staff makes. The restaurant is entirely run by family, each with their own purpose. (And the staff that isn't family is very sweet too!)
We are looking forward to coming back on our next vacation in the area. Sometimes rather than going to many different restaurants, it's nice to find one good one and hit it up over and over again! This place is worth a detour on its own. Check it out!
PS: As a salad person, I will say the biggest salad "no-no's" are: 1. using too many ingredients, 2. not cutting ingredients small enough for bite-size. I am happy to report the salad here passes the tests with flying colors, with its four ingredients finely sliced. It was such a simple use of kale I was delighted that they provide the ingredients to the vegan caesar dressing so I can try it out myself!!
Pros: exceptional vegan + GF food, diverse selection of options, each of top caliber, values of the place, family owned and run
