Great location, but ok matcha - Edit
Perhaps they have a bigger menu later in the day but in the morning we went at least it was just drinks & cake available. They do offer soy milk which is good, though the matcha was a bit average. The location and atmosphere are both great though!

Stopped here after a trek down the mt misen trail to relax with a brew and some ramen, which hit the spot perfectly. Lovely tranquil teahouse, and the ramen was delicious. Vegan options clearly labelled. The staff were so friendly and welcoming - highly recommend

Disappointing... Won't give any point. - Edit
We were there, it was 12.43 and there were no vegan ramen anymore (and no other meal). It was not written anywhere (outside of inside) that there were out of stock. When we asked for it, the waitress didn't know about it and had to ask a colleague to learn that there weren't any ramen available. According to me a "false advertising" to attract some vegan tourists just next to the temple. I won't recommend this place!

Excellent Cold Vegan Ramen - Edit
Clearly labelled cold vegan ramen with all ingredients listed. The vegan shaved ice was also very good. Beautiful and scenic location, away from the hustle and bustle of the ferry terminals.

A Zen Experience - Edit
Rokaku is more than a cafe, it is a peaceful experience. Located inside the gates of the Daisho-in Temple, this cafe gives you a tranquil rest from the otherwise busyness of Miyajima Island. The cafe is small and cozy. In the background, you hear gentle piano music playing. From out the windows you see out to the grounds of the temple. The vibe, the view and the sounds, there's not a better way to replenish the soul.
Read moreThen there's the food itself. My partner and I ordered the cold ramen noodles (which is based off an old zen recipe). I had never eaten ramen cold before, so I was a little bit apprehensive about whether I would enjoy it. But the taste was incredible. It was a dish that had many subtle flavours, which made it very moreish. We were also given a separate dish of chili oil so that we could tailor the spice to our desired level.
Then there's the wonderful owner. From the second we walked in, we were greeted with the warmest smile we've received in Japan. She was telling us how she was involved in the 80th anniversary events which commemorated the atomic bombing. The owner is a strong advocate of promoting peace and harmony. The world needs more people like this.
It was such a wonderful to eat here, one that I will not forget.

Delicious cold vegan ramen perfect on a warm day. The owners are also super nice and accommodating. The location is beautiful and the café has a friend who visits regularly. If you're lucky, you'll be greeted by him at the entrance.

Best Vegan Ghibli-like food 🥰 - Edit
The cold ramen was so incredible that even my non vegan friend was shocked by it. Service is really great, and the wooden place make the experience even more enjoyable. If I could lick the plate more at the end, I would! Thank you 🙏

Lovely place - Edit
A must-go on Miyajima island! I had the curry, the soy milk pudding, and a matcha latte. The curry was delicious! I also loved the pudding, it was not too sweet and the texture was very light. The hot matcha latte with soy milk was alright but not the best compared to other places I visited. Maybe I’d go for just the matcha with no milk next time. Still, I think this place deserves 5 stars!

Incredible vegan meal in a beautiful setting - Edit
We loved this place so much we went twice (once to fuel up before our long hike and once to treat ourselves after). We had everything on the menu — the vegan curry, vegan ramen, vegan strawberry soy milk pudding, and vegan matcha with soy milk. It was the best meal we’ve had so far on our trip. The ambience was incredible — in traditional Japanese architecture next to a temple, surrounded by lots of greenery. We even saw a small deer wander over. And most importantly, the owners were so friendly and excited when they learned we were vegan and came through happy cow. We wish we could have gone back a third time!

Wonderful - a must go! - Edit
They offer 2 dishes: vegan curry (I usually don't like curry and can say that this was the BEST curry I've ever eaten!) and cold ramen (have never eaten before and it was so delicious, sure in my top 3 ramen from Japan!) and one dessert: soy pudding with strawberry syrup harvest from Miyajima Island! Can't say how much I am satisfied with the food and the service! She gave us free tea at the end. The owners are very friendly and sweet! And he was wearing a Nintendo t-shirt! Can't recommend this enough!!!

Simple yet amazing food and extremely friendly staff - Edit
The cafe is located just next to the Daisho-In Temple and serves vegan food. We spotted the advert outside and had to step in. We had the vegan curry (it was really delicious and portion had exactly the right size) and soya pudding with strawberries.

Small (only 3 big tables) cosy and with a veiw of a zen garden. The staff was super-nice and the food was spot on. We tried the ramen and the curry. And ok, only two options. But! They tasted like heaven and was worth the walk and the wait. It was such comfort coming here, there was some very calming music playing and you felt none of the stress and bussyness that other places in Miyajima might hold.

Decent food - Edit
Can’t complain about the food, or the service, staff was very friendly and gets a 5/5 . The only reason it drops a star is this is the most expensive meal of our trip but the level of food doesn’t match it, it’s good, don’t get me wrong . Just now wow enough to gain the max.

Vegan ramen after hiking 😋 - Edit
I likely saw the cafe briefly on HappyCow but disregarded it, assuming it was only coffee and sweets. Then I stumbled upon their cafe as I was exploring. They had a sign saying vegan curry, so I went in. I was offered a menu for drinks and sweets and so I asked if they still served food, to which they presented info about ramen. I ordered the ramen and it was tasty and perfect serving size for me. Staff seemed to know a good amount of English as well.

Peaceful and yummy - Edit
I had the vegan curry, the soy strawberry dessert, and a soy matcha latte. As others have mentioned, the nuts in the curry add a great touch. The portion may look small in photos, but it’s surprisingly filling.

The venue is a small wooden tea house near Daishoin Temple, with three large tables inside and additional seating outside. The staff were wonderful—they asked if we were vegan and even recommended Happy Cow to us.

Service
I was asked if I was vegan. I said that I was. I was thanked. Nice. They’re also exceedingly patient.
Food
I had the curry, the strawberry dessert & a soy matcha latte. I don’t recall ever having a curry with nuts in it but it really, really worked. The soy matcha latte was the best I’ve ever had. But I’m no connoisseur so don’t be mad at me if it doesn’t meet your standards.
Price
3700jpy for everything. Maybe a little pricey compared to what you can get elsewhere in Japan but running a veg place on Miyajima can’t be easy and the quality of the food and drink was spot on so I’m happy.
