CLOSED: Rizoma

Bing, bang, bong. I'm not going to beat around the bush here. This place is an instant 5 Happy Cow hit, no doubt it. It's also 100% vegan, so everything I mention from this point onwards does not need to be queried. No questions asked. As soon as you walk in, you can just tell how good the place is. It was 5 cows even before the food was served, and even before we saw the menu. We shared a starter of a spinach waffle topped with roasted vegetables and tahini. For the main courses we had the following; (1) sausage pizza topped with mozzarella and tomatoes (2) battered chicken skewers and potato fries served with a BBQ dip and salad. Battered chicken baby. This took me back to my very very bad and distant KFC days before I saw the light. Next time someone asks me "do you eat chicken" I can say "yes I do, go to Rizoma in Barcelona and find out for yourself". I would probably lose my temper first though at their ignorance. It's a common query we have to deal with along with the fish question. Rizoma is fronted by an amazing young man who is passionate about veganism. He makes you feel very welcome indeed. Starters are €5 to €7.50 and main courses €9 to €14. That is good in my eyes. A bottle of house wine is a decent €15. I feel this is fairly priced. Perfect lighting, great location just north of Diagonal in the vicinity of some superb bars for a cheeky beer before the meal. Please make room for Rizoma when in Barcelona. I don't give out 5 happy cows on a whim. This wasn't a whim, this is the future of restaurants in decades to come once humans realise meat should never have been on the agenda.

I tried many vegan restaurants, and this one is one of the best I had the luck to find. Great food, very accurate preparation, every detail is perfect in the dish. I clap my hands! I hope to come back one day!

Da igual si eres vegano o comes de todo porque en Rizoma ni te darás cuenta que la mozarella es vegana:) hemos probado sushi y pizza y los dos platos eran riquisimos. Obviamente nos hemos quedado con ganas de más. El local muy simple pero acogedor; te explicaran cualquier duda y después las recetas las puedes buscar en el blog del chef. Me encantó, os recomiendo a todos, especialmente si buscais la version vegana de la verdadera pizza.

Fui a rizoma con dos amigas no veganas y fliparon con el pollo de la ensalada cesar, las hamburguesas y el tiramisú. Todo muy bien logrado. EL espacio agradable, cálido, limpio y muy bien atendido.
Volvero con más gente cuando vuelva a pasar por Barcelona.

Targetted this place on the walk between Segrada Familia and Park Guell. Nice place, quite small and all indoors. I was with my son so we ordered everything off the set menu (there were 2 each of starters, mains and desserts) and everything was fantastic especially for such a great price. the service was great as well, friendly and attentive.

I visited Rizoma for Saturday lunch.
I arrived a little bit after they opened, so there was plenty of space and I could get a table without a reservation (probably for dinner you'd better make one).
The service was quick, nice and friendly.

I ordered the set menu (14 euros), which is a superb deal as it comes with an entree, a main, a dessert and drink!

The food was very good; but nothing outstanding.
However, the lunch menu changes everyday, so you might get lucky.

It seems that they have a stable menu for dinner time, so I will try it next time. I'm sure it will be great!

I had tomato and garlic pizza but asked for vegan mozerella on top aswell. I recommend that if you like plain or simple pizzas. Very garlicy but delicious. Dough was fresh. Italian base, thin. Large size. Great quality.
Would recommend.

One of the best experiences we had in Barcelona. Had been walking around for ages trying to find the place so we were pushing it for closing time when we arrived. They had ran out of the main on their three course set menu but whipped us up something else and it was some of the best food we'd had all holiday. We were so grateful as we'd been wandering around, our legs hurt and we were hungry so they made our day. Fantastic food and a very good price too - €12 for three courses at lunch. Definitely go here if you are in Barcelona. 100% vegan

The owner created a website with lots of free vegan recipes in spanish lang (www.dimensionvegana.com). Nice to go there and support his hard work, though it can be a bit pricey and some foods are just ok. Loved the mushrooms with pate tho

Good vegan food, nice staff and clean place, I went to lunch and I ate their menu: salad , burger with fries and a dessert (a muffin), food was good, but nothing special.

They make very elaborated dishes that mimic non vegan food and taste awesome. A great place to bring non vegan friends/family, etc. A must go if you come to Barcelona. The owner is vegan and well known for his blog dimensionvegana.com and his youtube channel.

La comida es deliciosa, yo sigo a Javi por redes sociales y fue de gran ayuda en mi transformación al vegetarianismo y ahora al veganismo y poder comer in situ las maravillas que el enseña... es una maravilla!!! Y la atención ni que decir, el es un encanto, te trata como si fueses el único cliente del local ♡ Quiero un Rizoma en Chile ahora!!!!!

Todo rico, no me decidía qué elegir. ....si estuviera más cerca de casa iria todos los días. .... buena calidad y servicio, platos originales hechos con mucho amor y dedicación. Un 10!

I've never enjoyed so much a vegetarian/vegan meal in my life. I would take everyone into this restaurant. Javier is probably one of the most famous vegan cooks around (I would say the most famous vegan cook among Spanish-speaking countries), and his menu at Rizoma does honor to his legendary reputation.

Estuve hace unas semanas, y se come de 10!!! un menú gurmet, delicioso y vistoso... un placer para el paladar, la vista y los animalitos!!!

Excelentes platos, innovación constante y el mejor chef vegano del planeta!

We've been here today (Friday) They just had a daily menu (LUNCHTIME), the rest of the menu is just in the evenings, were not so many options, but we took both first dishes and the one option for the maincourse:
The quinoa/seaweed salad was delicious, they don't use salt and you can really tell.
We also get watermelon gazpacho that was nice, and the maincourse, for me, the best vegan pizza i had in Barcelona ever. Delicious texture from the mozzarela,(i know the ingredients are not the healthiest) and the bread was really nice :) (whole flour)
For 12€ you get first, maincourse, wine/water and the dessert + expresso or tea. They charge extra 2€ for a coffe with milk that in my opinion could be included in the same price. Also the dessert was too much (ice cream+brownie) but maybe awesome for sweetooth people.
The teas are yogi tea :)

Oh, the free apetizer was appreciate, really creamy and light carrot mayonnese with mini wholebread sticks.

I was really excited of going to Rizoma, because I have been seeing a lot of goods photos and reviews in these months since they opened and the chef Javier Guarascio is well known in the Vegan Comunnity.

We had really good food, big portions, original things that I couldn't believe the way they taste. I hardly recomend the place, for vegan and not vegan people, because you are going to be in love with the food.

You have variety, tasty salad and sweet meals, raw and chocolate cakes to choose, people in there is nice and simple, familiar ambient, every day you have a diferent option to eat... I am in love. Rizoma is the best restaurante I've been in my life.

The food was very unnatural ... Seemed like fried gunk, like tbp rather than anything organic and fresh. Honestly, it was barely edible. Don't know why our experience was so different from the other reviews.

Fantastic vegan restaurant with vegan raw options as well, food was incredibly good with original recipes. Nice ambience and service.

We had a sushi appetizer, raw pizza and pumpkin raviolis, also raw cheesecake and brownie. It was SO GOOD we were amazed! Maybe a bit expensive if you order out the menu but it's totally worth it.

It is not too often that you can find such a high quality vegan "author-cuisine"in a Catalan city. The food at Rizoma is just Amazing. It's important to reserve in advance. I believe a brilliant future is on its way for them. Highly recommendable. Close to Sagrada Familia. Nice midday menu for good price.

El menu de medio dia exquisito, la atencion del camarero inmejorable.

What a great meal! Javier is a master chef! every dish was a goosebumpy experience and a joy! We walked and walked in Gracia neighborhood to find this restaurant which had only been opend for 2 weeks when we ate there. The design and service were quite basic, but who cares when food is such a gastrorgasmic experience?! Javier came to our table to explain us his project, Rizoma it is not just a restaurant, it is a place to discover food combination in a very creative way. A place I will definitely go back. Price were moderate and food was above our expectation! Bravo!

Agog with expectation about this new vegan restaurant in Barcelona I was there this week with a friend. Both of us had hors d'oevre and a main dish, whereas I had a dessert on top of that. First of all, it's a somewhat bald venue, not ugly but rather charmless and lame. You can call it functional at least. Right now everything is new and clean, since they have opened just one month ago, but it won't become more comfy simply by passing time, only if they do something about it, chance or add a few interior decorations (what I highly recommend). (The entry area wasn't any better, by the way.) Since I was there with a local who translated everthing for me I don't actually know if there is an English menu or if the staff speaks English, but both seemed to me rather not to be the case. However, the food was high-quality and very tasty. Thus the bill was quite high. Considering the prices Rizoma is a restaurant to go to once in a while or on a special occasion, on the other hand going to a restaurant on a special occasion you usually want the restaurant to be endearing than Rizoma. Anyway, there was nothing to complain about the taste of the food, neither about the staff. There is some room for improvement.

Coming from Dimension Vegana's chef, this is the kind of food that you want to find in this restaurant. Original recipes and almost everything is handmade. That pizza!! Fair price considering the elaboration.
