River Kitchen

Nice place. Good people.
Not much in the way of vegan or vegetarian even though they advertise it. I ordered 4 sides of mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes and potatoes. It was beautifully cooked and delish.

Pros: Great coffee.

Cons: No real vegan options.

Not great for vegans

Limited dairy free options. Staff are quite good and happy to take dairy out of the dishes but it's basically a cafe with a few meat free dishes they're willing to take the dairy out of.

Pros: Good staff. , Ok food

Cons: Limited options for vegetarians , No pure vegan dishes

Fresh, original cooking in contemporary setting

River Kitchen is a small coffee shop serving breakfasts, lunches and snacks in Hamilton's downtown restaurant district. It has won several local and national awards for 'best cafe' and is part of the 'Conscious 'Consumers' network for sustainable, eco friendly businesses. Although some meat is included in some of the prepared under the counter and cooked breakfast options, most items on the menu are either vegetarian (clearly marked with a V) and many can be made vegan. Meat and eggs are from free range and mainly organic suppliers. Their cakes and other baked goods are sensational. River Kitchen is my favourite breakfast destination and I especially enjoy their Turkish baked eggs with spinach, Harissa and Turkish bread. Yum!

Pros: Many vegetarian items, Free range and often organic, Pleasant indoor and outdoor seating

Cons: Not much choice for vegans
