Filling vegan mushroom meal - Edit
There's a clearly marked "vegetarian corner" on their menu where three out of these five dishes are vegan. There's also a dessert marked as vegan, a meringue.
Read moreI had the vegan gnocchi with porcini mushrooms & black garlic on a pumpkin cream sauce, very filling and quite tasty! Note that the gnocchi are pasta gnocchi and not the usual dumpling shape :-)

Wasn’t really gnocchi as I know it, but tasty.
Cauliflower dip was cold, but think it was supposed to be.
Four florets of cauliflower on dip, as a main.

Not overly impressive- but hey it was a vegan option ima vegan desert.

Stresa in winter can be a tough place for vegans, and I went back here twice - eating different options both times which is no small thing! First time ate the cauliflower puree and gnocchi, second time the beetroot falafel. All very good. Two desserts when I went, a vegan meringue (!) and a frangipani tart, both excellent. As noted the limoncello they offer at end of meal is milk-based (and all they have).

They had a vegan dish as main. And 3 vegan other dishes. I tried the chickpea burger and that was very special. Good portion. It was a bit like hummus/ falafel but fancy with a nice sauce and many zucchini/ flowers. What a good combination.
Also a vegan desert. Which was very good!!
Homemade limoncello on the house. But the second night I doubted if the limoncello was vegan cos it was creamy. Later we asked and it was a crème limoncello. So check before drinking.
The staff is friendly and helpful and the food arrives very fast.
The price was actually not too bad.
I went 3 nights in a row. The third night they had a new menu. I had the gnocchi with fresh mushrooms it was very creamy.
If you look into other menus in town it was not special I would recommend coming here.

Locale elegante con opzioni vegane inserite sia all'interno del menu classico (nella lista di antipasti, primi, ecc) sia nella sezione denominata "angolo vegetariano". Noi abbiamo provato la parmigiana di melanzane, la svizzerina di ceci e l'opzione dolce vegana. Tutto buonissimo, locale caldamente consigliato.

Both dishes were amazing and made so deliciou, that is why we did double order of these dishes.
The wines are also excellent and the service.
Highly recommend.

Came to Stornello based on the previous Happy Cow review and I was not disappointed. The menu's dedicated "vegetarian corner" section offered 4 dishes, which are in addition to another couple of other vegetarian (not vegan) dishes on the pasta menu. The beetroot gazpacho with spring onion, daikon, and tumeric was absolutely delicious and I would highly recommend it for those who like gazpacho. The vegetable tagliatelle (vegan) was also very good, served with a vegan ragout and cherry tomato sauce. I ate at Lo Stornello for lunch and it was not busy at all. It is possible though that a reservation is needed in the high season.

Smart restaurant at reasonable prices - Edit
We were delighted to come across Ristorante Lo Stornello. The restaurant is smartly presented and located in the town centre. There a quite a few menu options that would suit those following a vegetarian or plant-based diet. In particular, there is a great little section on the menu called “Vegetarian Corner” (see photo July 2018). There is a choice of 4 main course dishes (two of which appeared to be completely plant based). We both had the tagliatelle and whilst I’m not usually a big fan of vegan cheese, it was used sparingly and complemented the dish which worked really well. We had a choice of 3 different flavoured sorbets for dessert. I had grapefruit and my wife had mandarin sorbet both of which were delightfully fresh and refreshing. The staff were charming and efficient, spoke good English and made us feel welcome. We both enjoyed our meals so much we came back again the following evening.
