Divine - Edit

We stumbled across this place towards the end of our day trip to Italy and also the end of our 9 day honeymoon. We wanted to get something to eat before getting back in the car and driving to Bergamo airport. I was instantly grabbed by it thanks to all the handwritten signage out front advertising their vegan food (not something you find easily in Italy). We grabbed a seat out front opposite the Duomo at no extra charge, which was a nice surprise. After a chat with a lovely lady who spoke excellent English we went with her recommendations of "hearty grub". My husband had the baked polenta with courgettes. He was absolutely delighted with it. I myself had gnocci which was out of this world. We both like to eat and we like big portions, this place did not let us down. We were very sad to have to eat so quickly and run back to our car as it would be well worth sampling more of their dishes if you have more time. As I said, we had spent 9 days in Italy and had eaten in several cities - this was by far the nicest meal out the lot. Highly recommend.

subtle flavoured vegan meals.. - Edit

We were disappointed in the vegan meals we ordered at Retro Bar. I had a tofu and zucchini bake that was nice but so subtle in flavour that it was a bit bland. Couldn't help thinking hey, we are in Italy. Just throw a tasty herby tomato sauce on the top and voila! Sadly it was sauceless. Hubby had a vegan "burger" that was very bland too and a bit too bread-crumby textured. There was no type of burger construction either and just a couple of super thinly sliced bits of bread so no chance of safely constructing one yourself.

Pros: fresh juices, vegan options

Cons: vegan food a bit bland

Charming - Edit

This little bistro has a wonderful atmosphere and the staff are so cheery and friendly. We stopped for coffee one day but couldn't resist the vegan (and sugar-free) torte, which was delicious. We were so impressed that we came back the next day for lunch. Everything was delicious, and there were plenty of (well-highlighted) vegan and vegetarian options.

The staff have made a big effort to use recycled furniture, which gives the restaurant a cozy, friendly atmosphere. They've even create a wall of books for reading / browsing while you dine. It's a unique, welcoming space - highly recommended!

Pros: Cozy and welcoming, Friendly staff, Excellent food

Wonderful staff! - Edit

We arrived late & they offered to keep the resturant open for another 30 minutes so we could eat (we decided - everyone needs rest!) but we got some delicious cake to take away. Wish I got the chance to try some other food too but!

Pros: lots of vegan options , lovely staff

Absolutely terrific! - Edit

Nice location for this cozy bistro in the quiet Piazza Duomo next to Verona Cathedral. Pleasant atmosphere with vintage style furniture and jazz music in the background. The place is run by a very friendly couple, she is vegan and speaks a very good english. This place also serves meat dishes so you can't rate it 5 cows but the vegan food was really excellent and I give it 5!
It's the perfect place if you have non vegan/vegetarian friends you want to have lunch/dinner with.

Pros: Excellent vegan food, Friendly english speaking staff, Nice atmosphere

Made my morning - Edit

We started with juice which knocked us out - absolutely fresh, slowly squeezed. For dinner we had pasta with mushroom and sweet potato noodle which turned out to be typical Korean noodle. This noodle was rather quite salty, but the pasta was very nice and creamy and we loved it. The price for those main was also quite affordable, so you can order several dishes to try out at same time :)
We loved the desert with cocoa and pears. Not sure if it was sugar-free, but it tasted awesome.

We came back next morning with a small hope that it might be open - and it was! The location was nice as well, it is very close to centre.
For brunch we had some juice again, and then a huge salad bowl with a vegan cake. Thanks for making my day in the morning, we are sure to come back when we visit Verona for a next time!
I was unable to rate 5 cows here, but I give 5! Absolutely the best in Verona.

Pros: Wonderful food, Good recycling sprit, Good location

If you have a are in the right place - Edit

In a traditional "meat city", find a bistro with an international approach to food while remaining "very Italian" is simply a gem!
They deserve 5 stars as they try to combine some traditional meat base dishes with vegan meals, veggie, gluten free. Meaning that if your partners/friends are not vegan (or viceversa) can find something that fits your needs without starving anymore.
But don't expect to eat in a restaurant. They aren't. They serve food, local dishes, drinks, local wines, live beers, raw juices, homemade vegan cakes, almond cappuccino, soya frappuccino, sorbet...just all day long. Pls aware that they are not open late at night, better to call.

A suggestion: Roman bruschetta are one of the best we've ever eaten.

Pros: variety, open all day, city centre

Cons: better to call for dinner

A different place - Edit

A vintage style bistrot and bar, serving local food all day long according to the bar's policy "local and fresh". 60% vegetarian food (main course) and vegan options. Craft beers, local wine, blooming tea and almond cappuccino! Salad and raw juices are fab! Bookcrossing zone and slate placemats where to draw while waiting food/drink. Meatless thursday with vegetable burgers and fries from 7 to 11 pm.

Pros: fresh food, value for money, friendly staff

Cons: vegan options
