Fantastic vegan brunch - Edit

The best thing about eating at a dedicated veggie/vegan place is the luxury of having so much choice on the menu! The Retreat didn’t disappoint. We had Sunday brunch here, and as it was a beautiful sunny day we were really happy with an outside table. The breakfast muffin with hollandaise sauce was delicious, washed down with a green juice. We left with a take away box of vegan cupcakes which we couldn't resist! A relaxing and friendly place which I would definitely visit again. Highly recommended for a visit.

Pros: Choice, Quality ingredients, Healthy food

Great coffee - Edit

Very good coffee, flat white with oats milk is to die for. Lovely place for a coffee or cake, even if you're not eating lunch. Not cheap, but it's Richmond after all.

Not all vegan...no gluten free options... - Edit

I was so disappointed trying the retreat kitchen out, I had read such good things on this site!
Unfortunately they do actually serve eggs and milk, something I dont want to eat around or be cross contaminated with. I was willing to give it a go though, and asked to try their vegan breakfast, but most of it wasnt gluten free.
After searching through the menu with them, there were no other vegan + gluten free options. It meant that I didnt have any option but to go somewhere else.
They are really lovely women in there but its not what I expected! Maybe it was just a bad day and they had ran out of options?

Pros: Nice staff

Cons: Not vegan as advertised, No gluten free options

ClaireLangdon 16 Aug 2017 - Hey!

I'm sorry you are disappointed with your visit; I will address the points you have raised as they are not accurate.

We have an accredited vegan menu which has been vetted by the Vegetarian Society - nothing on our food menu contains eggs or dairy milk or anything that is not vegan.

The only exception we make is for tea and coffee and our customers can have dairy milk upon request with tea and coffee only.

3. We are not an entirely gluten free establishment but we always try to cater for those who are gluten free. I am sorry that you could not find anything suitable on that particular day. However I can assure we made every effort to have at least 5 out of 7 of our menu items that are gluten free or can be at least adapted.

We would love to see you again to clear up these mis conceptions of The Retreat Kitchen.

Many Thanks

Claire

Great sweets! ☕️☕️🍰🍪 - Edit

Universe is hinting at something when two vegan places open near your new home. Retreat is a wonderful small cafe, just how you want your breakfast low start place to be. You do know the nicest bit - just pick anything, it's all vegan!

friendly, great food - Edit

We really enjoyed our lunch at Retreat, the team there were very friendly and helpful with our 7 month old tucking into ours and scattering bits here and there. It never felt like a problem having him with us.

I loved having such a wide range of vegan cakes to choose from, along with some very tempting mains, and really would have liked to order everything. Not a huge amount of space for buggies, a group of 4 buggies would be a tight fit, but hey, they do take away and there are some excellent parks nearby too.

A hidden gem! - Edit

I've always struggled to find decent vegetarian food when out with friends, so I was very happy to find HappyCow to start with.

That said, checked my local area and this place came up. It's not really tucked away, but it's almost non-descript from the outside. Venturing in, it's quiet, cosy and the wonderful Ladies give you a warm and non-pushy service.

We ordered the Falafel wrap and Kofte Flatbread with "I Speak" tea and a "Golden Turmeric Latte". Each dish was well presented, with a small side salad and vegetable crisps. Truly, the food was delicious! Two VERY clean plates ensued.

The tea was served in a teapot so you could steep it to your desire, and the Golden Turmeric Latte was just devine! (I love that you could have it made with Soy, Almond, Coconut or even Dairy milks! Spoilt for choice!)

Service was friendly, not pushy in the slightest and always polite.

Will I return? Of course!

Pros: Great Food, Amazing Service, Cozy surroundings

Good Atmosphere. Plenty to try. - Edit

Three generations of the family enjoyed our meal here.
Tasty and imaginative food, friendly and accommodating staff passionate about their jobs.
Lots of choice and has some wine if you're so inclined. Very reasonably priced, in my view.

It's not huge so probably not ideal if you are a large group and want to be all at one table. Parking not the easiest so go on the bus, it's worth it!

Pros: Can cater for Vegans and lacto free. They'll t

Cons: Cannot guarantee against cross contamination by nu

good for English breakfast - Edit

Went here with some friends for a late brunch. Tried a smoothie which was great and a typical English breakfast plate, then ended it all with a stack of pancakes. The breakfast plate in particular was very good and also enjoyed by my non vegan friends.

Excellent all around - Edit

This place is SO good! Truly: a much-needed addition to Richmond's scant vegan/vegetarian offerings. The staff are utterly lovely, and the food just tremendous. I had the asparagus, artichoke and sundried tomato quiche - best quiche I've ever tried, along with some beautiful salads. You would never have known there were no eggs, or dairy, in any of the dishes. On my way in, I sampled one of their brownies. Seriously. Life. Needless to say, I left with a box of treats. Highly recommend!

Cute, friendly, tasty! - Edit

I recently had lunch with my non-vegan sister, 4yr old nephew and veggie mum. The ladies (Maggie & Claire) were both friendly, welcoming and were happy to explain all the dishes that were on offer for lunch.

They make a lovely selection of fresh salads but there's also a soup, hot dish & wrap of the day which we gladly ate :)

Would recommend to anyone, vegan or otherwise for a really tasty meal and lovely company

Pros: Welcoming, Great food, Cleanliness

Fabulous! - Edit

Great friendly service and decor with amazing food. I'm not a vegan and never really fancied trying it before, but it was absolutely delicious. I can also recommend the hot chocolate with coconut milk, fabulous. Will definitely be back. Even if you aren't a vegan like me then give it a go-it'll be worth it.

Pros: Friendly service, Fantastic, homemade food , Lovely hot chocolate

Vegan Virgin - Edit

Thanks to Claire, Maggie and Lesley for their warm welcome and tasty homemade vegan cuisine earlier. Being a 'vegan virgin' and a meat eater I was a bit apprehensive that the food would be bland but I was proved wrong; especially after trying the curry and the quinoa salad!

The Old Spike coffee with a dash of bon soy milk was also a nice little treat seeing as I'm used to the likes of Starbucks and their generic coffee beans.

A nice experience in relaxed surroundings. I'll be back for sure.

Pros: Great food, Relaxed surroundings, Friendly staff
