Great place around Omotesando - Edit

Went there because of a recommendation of a lady I met at another vegan restaurant. It’s quite a fancy place, really pretty and has a nice atmosphere. The food was also really delicious, I had the sandwich of the day and loved their hummus. Also ordered an ice cream which didn’t really impressed me though the toppings (mainly the nutty nuts) were delicious!

Classy Atmosphere & Vegan Food - Edit

This place has a really nice, upscale vibe (I love the exterior design in particular- it’s quite a first impression). I wasn’t blown away by the food, however. I had the slovaki plate for lunch, and it was good (as someone else noted, the tempeh was nice!), however I didn’t feel like the flavour profile was that impressive, and I left feeling hungry. The presentation was pleasant, but at the end of the day the food itself is most important to me. I’d come back for a more special occasion or with someone I want to impress with a classy vibe, but I wouldn’t rush back for a meal on the go.

Upscale Atmosphere, Good Flavors - Edit

I went here for lunch on the weekend and it was pretty crowded. I had to wait about 15 minutes, which wasn't too bad. The atmosphere is really nice, slightly fancy. Food had good flavor, the desserts were good, too. Portions were a little small but the lunch set included a soup, salad, entree and drink for about ¥2000, which is decent.

Pros: Good Flavors, Nice Plating

Cons: Pricey for quantity, Might have to wait for a table

Expensive and posh - Edit

I popped in whilst in the area and found it difficult due to the recent change of name and location. I didnt feel like a whole meal so I got a raspberry muffin which was still just under 500 yen. The staff obviously got them it out of the freezer as when she showed me the packet, the muffin was slightly frozen. They took forever to heat it up and serve it on the plate which I wasnt expecting. And it was gluten free! Lots of yummy looking food but a bit too posh for me, I'm afraid.

Pros: yummy, lots of options, good location

Cons: healthy focused, posh , inattentive staff

Fabulous food - Edit

The food is mainly Mediterranean flavours but with a twist which meant spicy enchiladas for me and tofu/ seitan souvlaki for my other half. We loved both choices, great flavours and followed up with lemon tiramisu. Friendly and attentive service and we couldn't have had a better evening while the rain poured outside.

food just ok - Edit

The place is pleasant and popular but the food is unimaginative and really average in taste. I went for lunch and dinner.

Pros: vegan

Cons: not trying hard enough to make good vegan food

Above Average! - Edit

Was in the area, so I stopped in for late Sunday lunch. The daily special enchiladas were quite good! Very hot with a nice sauce and good shell. Came with salad and soup - both decent - and tea for about 2000円. A little pricy but not enough to deter me from coming back. Lots of treats and spices and books to look at on your way out.
I'd recommend this place. In fact, I'm doing so right this moment!

Pros: Food was good quality, Pretty good atmosphere, Prompt service

Cons: On the pricy side, If you don't do the specials, options are limited

Okay - Edit

Atmosphere was decent. Food was around average from what I've had so far, but double the price. (the tempeh itself was very good, I'm not sure if it's made in house)

Omote-sando has some tastier options but if you want a high-end atmosphere it's worth checking out.

I just had time to drop in for dessert and it was well worth the detour. I had the lemon tiramisu which was exquisite and Lara had the caramel and sea salt ice cream that was truly amazing. Can't wait to return and try the souvlaki

A cut above usual vegan in Tokyo? - Edit

Whenever I get up to Tokyo, I always try to check out some vegan places (I live in the south of the country, and here there are only a couple of places), but I'd never been particularly impressed; it seemed most places relied on too much deep fried Tofu/Soy protein dishes, which I always found to be a bit bland.

Of course, lots of Indian/middle east cuisine falls into the vegan category, but I've been looking for places that do European style vegan food.

8ablish certainly looks to be aiming for that, so after reading other reviews on here, I gave it a whirl with a non-vegan friend.
We went during the lunch session, so perhaps not their most impressive dishes were on offer, as with most places in Japan, the evening dinner session is usually when the big guns are brought out.

We had a ratatouille and marinated peach on bread as an hors d'oeuvre. So far so good.
We had different mains, but both came with a basic green salad, and a rather good (Taste + consistency) pea soup - My friend had a plate of Souvlaki, which I was able to sample, and there was a good mix of vegetables and interestingly cooked Tofu on the skewers.
I had Enchiladas - It was nice to see something like this on the menu. The vegan cheese melted on top was good, but they weren't particularly spicy, which was a little disappointing.
For desert, we had a spiced carrot cake (but not spicy beyond its regular amount of cinnamon) and a lemon Tiramisu with essence of Grappa. Whilst it tasted nice and lemony, with just a hint of the Grappa (I would have liked a little more "bite" with the Grappa myself), the pudding itself looked nothing like the classic Tiramisu, and was more a custard pudding in a glass with a thin layer of crumbs in the bottom - I was expecting something more cake-like.

The style and decor of the cafe was modern and sophisticated - I imagine it would have a nice atmosphere in the low-lights of the evening,
The cafe's music when we went was light jazz/modern bossanova, which I find a bit of a cliche myself, but that's just my opinion.

One thing that slightly mars the experience are the staff - Admittedly, we went during what is, for many Japanese, a time of being off work, so maybe the staff weren't exactly thrilled to have to be working.
They were diligent, but not exactly friendly though.

Price wise, a little expensive, but not outrageous.
Definitely worth a visit though. The food is in the right direction - Shame about the slightly blank-faced, robotic staff.

Pros: Creative and adventurous with the dishes., Nice atmosphere in the evenings (?), Other vegan produce available to buy

Cons: Staff were a bit "cold"., A little on the expensive side.

Classy - Edit

Some vegan restaurants shout it out: we are here to improve the world, we are different, we are healthy. And if you're a vegan, that's where you feel at home. But sometimes, it's nice when a restaurant oozes luxury and class. And that's where "8ablish" differs: it's beautiful and classy.

One word of advice: do make reservations in advance. When we were there early on a Friday evening (6 pm) about 80% of the tables had a "reserved" sign on it.

It quickly becomes evident why: the food matches the promising looks of the place. Everything we ordered was of above average quality and taste. However, the portions are small and the prices are high. For example, my vegan "steak" was tiny compared to what people are served when they order the same thing in a meat restaurant. Even the size of the garnishing was tiny. Actually, the size of the main dish was the same as the starters! If you're hungry, do order a starter, a main dish and a side dish to get a decent portion.

To compensate we ordered the "dessert assortment" which promised a lot, both by the name "assortment" and the price of a whopping 2.380 yen. Expecting a cornucopia of desserts, we actually got one small bowl of ice cream (vegan, of course), some dried fruit, two tiny pieces of nut cake and two tiny pieces of chocolate browny.

After eating at 8ablish we were still hungry and went to a cheap vegan place a few blocks away (Cori food stand). However, the Cori food stand is the kind of place that shouts out: vegan, here to improve the world. That's why 8abilish is a wonderful asset for Tokyo.

Pros: high class vegan food, great place to go with a group of friends, healthy, tasty

Cons: small portions, high prices, music a bit too loud, credit card copied to an iPad for paying; insecure

Relaxing, great food. - Edit

Just had the Souvlaki lunch set, it was fantastic. Don't often get Greek-influenced vegan food in Japan so it was a welcome point of difference!

This place has a relaxing atmosphere and friendly staff.

The tea time menu didn't have many options. I chose the soup and salad option which was delicious and filling. We split the vanila ice cream with caramel sauce and sea salt. I highly recommend it! Nice atmosphere, too.

Awesome restaurant atmosphere - Edit

We had delicious food here served in a classy place. I wouldn't say it was as cheap as some, but wasn't painfully expensive.
We had western style food that was thoughtfully prepared.
Our waitress recognised us two weeks later in another vegan restaurant in Kyoto and came over to say hello and ask how our trip was going which was really sweet!
Thanks!

Pros: Good food, Cool restaurant

fanciest vegan food I've had - Edit

This was a wonderful experience - from chatting with the waiter to just enjoying the gorgeous presentation of the thoughtfully prepared food. There is a tiny shop attached with muffins and sandwiches and other snacks. The food was exciting and so creatively and carefully put together - absolutely worth a visit.

Pros: lighting, service, food choices

Cons: none

Lovely little place - Edit

I'd strongly recommend 8ablish for vegans visiting Tokyo. Such a welcoming and comfortable vibe with really nice staff in nicely decorated dining room.

Food is freshly prepared and tasty. European focussed flavours, leaning towards Mediterranean / Italian.

The service is what makes this place stand out. I had a great time here. Top marks.
