REMOVED: Calafia Cafe and Market
Closed
855 El Camino Real (at Embarcadero Rd), Palo Alto, California, USA, 94301
Serves meat, vegan options available. Offers a separate vegetarian menu that has a large number of vegan offerings including the Vegan Love Plate which consists of coriander dusted roasted beets, pureed cauliflower, braised dinosaur kale, giant lima beans, roasted shitake mushrooms and rosemary polenta. Food is freshly in-house-made. Casual low key atmosphere. Located in the Town & Country Village. Removed for offering foie gras and other dishes of extreme cruelty on the menu.

Creative Vegetarian Options - Edit
They change their menu about 3 or 4 times a year. They have an entire plant section for vegetarians and note vegan options. Many items are too spicy for me but I have NO tolerance for the least hot spice.
Fairly expensive but a nice option.
Pros: Good food, Variety of choices for vegetarians
Cons: Pricey

Ethical Vegetarians/Vegans AVOID - Edit
Despite their "veg-friendly" local reputation, this restaurant serves foie gras... which is banned in California because of the incredible animal cruelty involved. The manager confirmed that foie gras is served 'free' atop expensive entrees both in private events and as a special in the restaurant, and was very smug about it. I absolutely cannot give my money to a restaurant that goes to such extremes to serve up cruelty. Yuck!

Calafia Cafe and Market - Edit
Lentil Loaf was earthy, hearty, textured with a rich, deep mushroom gravy creating the perfect vegan comfort food.
Vegan Love Plate was a vibrant array of colors, textures and flavors creating a symphony of vegan love.
Service was excellent, especially our waitor, Jeremiah, who was attentive and very nice
The vegan chocolate cheesecake was lovely - rich, creamy, crunchy bottom, deep chocolate flavor with caramel drizzles - a cross between a mousse and a cheesecake.
The market was a fun environment: bar, TV, organic salad bar and lots of vegan options including muffins, cookies, chocolate and nut butters
Pros: excellent vegan selections, relaxed atmosphere, family friendly
Cons: needs more vegan entrees, more vegan baked goods in market
