Vegan meatballs with Zucchini Noodles - amazing

Thanks, Happy Cow, for identifying this gem for us! We were in the Tarrytown area and wanted a dinner spot that was vegan-friendly. Our party of 3 was comprised of two vegans and one omnivore. There were choices for all of us (as well as gluten free options, which we did not require, but might be good to know for others). Cozy ambiance and a delightful menu with many delicious veg-friendly choices. The server and busboy were not particularly special but the hostess was warm and welcoming. The vegan meatballs are served in a rich, delicious tomato sauce - I had them over a small portion of zoodles (they could have given a little but more of the zucchini noodles than they did, but the meatballs were hearty). The roasted pumpkin/mixed greens salad with a cashew based dressing was delicious. I would definitely go back to try other things.

Pros: Clearly labeled vegan items on menu, Deliberate care & effort put into vegan choices , cozy ambiance

Cons: Zucchini noodles portion rather tiny for price

Delicious

Really delicious food, vegan & non vegan. My friend really enjoyed her non vegan dish & I really enjoyed my vegan Alfredo linguini. They have Vegan Alfredo, Vegan meatballs, & Vegan Parmesan

Pros: Yummy vegan options/vegan possible options, Affordable Italian , Friendly service

Cons: Not a huge variety of vegan options, Parking can suck depending on hours

Mediocre execution

I was REALLY excited to try this spot since they veganize some Italian dishes. I also love Sweet Grass Grill..and being that they are sister restaurants, my expectations were high. They make the pasta and bread in house and those two items tasted fresh made. The service was good and the staff was nice. I ordered the mushroom and tempeh bolognese for my entree. The pasta itself was super fresh but, the sauce was a bit too sweet. I couldn’t tell if they used one too many onions in the sauce or are adding sugar to cut the acidity. I wanted to try the carbonara but, server suggested the bolognese for a vegan pasta option. I also tried the polenta fries. They were not bad but the creamy cashew sauce was again, oddly sweet and they just were not a good combination of flavors. I honestly can’t say that I would recommend this place if you want Italian food.

Pros: Nice atmosphere

Cons: The marinara was too sweet

My server didn’t know what VEGAN meant

Red Zebra (sister restaurant to local favorite of vegans- Sweet Grass Grill) has a menu with easily identifiable vegan items marked either with a V or VP (for Vegan possible) vegan pasta is available upon request, they known for their FRESH pasta, however their fresh pasta options it was explained to me are not vegan. Their vegan meatballs are delicious, but other than pasta with meatballs and salads, and one or two other entrees marked as VP, my dinner date felt like these were dishes we could have made at home. Also our waiter didn’t know what Vegan meant and we explained it and he still brought dairy cheese to the table - so we were a little iffy wondering if our meal was done correctly. We are willing to give it another chance - as the menu develops with seasonal items and hopefully more vegan options , and more educated staff - we will be keeping an eye out.

Pros: beautiful restaurant , vegan options easily identified , sleepy hollow is a super cool town

Cons: pay for parking , server didn’t know what Vegan meant
