I wish

As much a I want and need a cute little veg cafe in my neighborhood, this place just falls short every time. I have try over and over again to like it. I’ve order 3-4 veg food items. I’ve ordered espresso, coffee, cold brew. It’s all super mediocre.

The only redeeming features are… it’s super cute inside, people seem to dig it and support it, and the muffins are awesome. They come prepackaged from somewhere else, but they are the best vegan muffins I have ever had.

Pros: Best Muffins, Atmosphere

Cons: Food is not great, Coffee is not great, Menu options are not great

NOTE: Not fully vegetarian anymore. Disappointing veggie options.

This cafe has totally overhauled its menu and business model, so previous reviews are irrelevant. It serves meat and tuna fish now. Its new menu actually has zero vegan options but there seem to be unlisted grab-and-go vegan wrap options in the fridge. There are prepacked vegan baked goods (made by Sensible Edibles) and plant-based milk options.

There may have been a change in ownership or management, because this spot is now called "Red Pipes Cafe". The website still has the old menu (RIP Mediterranean and Vegan Reuben sandwiches) but the Facebook page has images of the updated menu. It seems like most of the food is pre-made and heated up to order now rather than made fresh. That's probably for the best because it certainly speeds up food prep.

The vegan baked good options are good, but the tofu wrap I had (not on the menu, but available in the cooler) was abysmal. There was zero effort made to make the wrap even remotely appealing. The tofu was raw, completely unseasoned, and still a little wet, as though it wasn't pressed/drained properly. There was hummus and a little dressing in the wrap, but definitely not enough to counteract the plain tofu. I didn't enjoy or even finish it.

The coffee is good and the atmosphere is cozy. I appreciate the local art on the walls. I hope the cafe brings back more quality vegan options.

Dairy milk from a vegan restaurant with a side of the owner's nasty attitude

I have had a mix of excellent and disappointing meals since I began coming here a year ago. I was about ready to give up on the restaurant, but decided to give it one last try. I've decided I will definitely not be returning. The quality of the food has gone down, although what solidified this decision for me was the owner's nasty attitude. We ordered two decaf iced cappuccinos and thought nothing more of it. After drinking part of it, we decided to double check that it was made with non-dairy milk (I'm strict vegan). Turns out that unless you specify which kind of milk you want, this *vegan* restaurant defaults to whole milk. This is both concerning and disappointing. When we expressed this to the owner, there was no apology, just him blaming us for not specifying. (His employee, Paige, handled the situation with much more grace, apologizing and making sure I wasn't allergic) He reluctantly remade them, and when I clarified that they were decaf, he ignored me. I repeated myself, and he said "I heard you, you just should have specified sooner." Ummm, the original order was decaf... Seriously?

I'm going to be working to find and support a better establishment.

Pros: Friendly employee

Cons: Not fully vegan, Owner has a nasty attitude, Heat is always too high

Mediocre food

I made a special trip because I wanted some baked goods and it has glowing reviews, which I now can't fathom why or how. I got a BLAT sandwich and 4 different baked goods - red velvet cupcake, pecan pie, apple spice muffin, and chocolate cheesecake muffin. The only item that tasted good was red velvet cupcake. The pecan pie was a joke. How anybody could call it pecan pie is a mystery. Anybody can make a much better vegan pecan pie using Isa Chandra's recipe. There are so many good recipes for vegan bacon online, but theirs didn't come close to even bad ones. My non-vegan friend got a smoothie, which he declared acceptable.

Pros: 100% vegan, friendly staff

Cons: mediocre to terrible food

Not only was the food delicious, the owner was a delight to chat with. We stumbled in on a Monday which turned out to be movie night. It was such a welcoming atmosphere that we decided to stay and watch the show. Thank you David!

AMAZING FOLKS

I have to say I really loved my time here. It was simple, quaint and the food was tasty. I thought the bread was some of the best (crunchy crusted) bread I've ever had.

Vegan soups were quite tasty as well.

SOOOO GOOD.

But the real gem goes to the staff who were so friendly, kind and talkative. They were interested in our feedback and open to finding ways to get their name more out there

Pros: Staff!, Bread for Hummus sandwich, Soup! and other options

Loved it!!!

Perfect, cozy coffee shop. Great atmosphere, I liked the brick walls and the artwork. I had a deviled egg sandwich (amazing!!!) and some avacado pineapple juice (wasn't sure how that would turn out but it also was delicious!!). I got a Mediterranean sandwich the next day for lunch and it was even better than the deviled egg sandwich. I wish I could eat this Mediterranean sandwich every single day. Very yummy!!!! And also, super cheap.

Pros: Great food, cheap, good atmosphere and good service

Healthy, clean, organic place

Friend of mine introduced me to this place. It's not a restaurant but a small coffee shop. So far, I have tried sandwiches and on one occasion a mushroom soup and it was delicious. Their latte is great and the latte art is always a pleasure to see. I recommend this place if you are eating clean and organic. Flavors are intense when you consume clean food. I am a fan.

Pros: Healthy food , Great counterculture brand coffee, People here are extremely nice & polite

Cons: They don't do delivery
