Red - Die grüne Küche roughly translates to "Red - The green kitchen/cuisine" It's a mix of bar, take-away, buffet, and gourmet restaurant. Everyday there is a main dish for approx. 7€ and a colorful buffet. Waiters don't bring the food to the tables. Also offers pastry and freshly pressed juices. Vegan and allergy friendly options. Open Mon-Sat 11:30-22:00.

This is a lovely place slightly out of the old town (ten minutes walk). There is a huge buffet with at least ten vegan dishes. You pay by weight, and at about 1 euro per 100g, this can become pricey if you try to sample a bit of everything (and it does all look good). We ended up paying 40 euro (that included a glass of wine). But the food is tasty and the staff are brilliant. There is a mix of German (cooked fennel, pumpkin slices, marinated warm onions) and world food such as Greek beans, felafel, cous cous) and lots of salads. The desserts however are mostly vegetarian.

Went to the buffet twice, mostly vegan options (clearly labelled) and lots of variety (salads and hot options changing daily).

Could easily go fully vegan, which seems to be missing in Heidelberg.

A good selection of vegan options. Nice and pleasant eating environment. To earn a five star they need to become a 100% plant-based restaurant. I do not like buffets that charge by weight...rip-off. You really can't enjoy your food. We would only visit again if in the area.

In addition to a daily (?) dish, Red‘s main offer is its huge buffet with vegetarian/vegan options, the latter are clearly marked. You take a plate and start filling it. This concept allows you to try whatever you are in the mood for, and you pay by weight at the end. As for the dishes, for me, it’s mostly hit/miss: some are awesome, some a bit bland. The atmosphere is quite basic, but suits the concept - however, for me, it doesn’t fully fit to the prices which are more on the upper scale.

Ok but where are the vegan desserts? - Edit
There wasn’t a huge variety of warm vegan dishes and the the ones that were available weren’t especially exciting. There were plenty of salad options which seems bizarre to me when it is so cold. The vegan items were identified with the addition of a flower on the description of the item. I had all the vegan hot options I could. There was a rice ball that I found a bit dry and the other things were fine, just not amazing. I had a large orange juice which was ok.

Das Red ist eines unserer Lieblingsrestaurants in Heidelberg. Es gibt ausschließlich vegetarische oder vegane Gerichte. Man kann sich an einem Buffet bedienen, der Preis wird nach Gewicht berechnet. Außerdem hat man noch die Wahl ein Tagesgericht zu bestellen. Das Ambiente ist einfach aber gemütlich und es gibt Optionen draußen zu sitzen. Es gibt ebenfalls leckere Kuchen und Desserts.
