The best in Colombia - Edit
After 4 weeks of travelling around the country this was by far the best place we ate at. The mushroom tacos were superb, and I loved the Asian style noodles. Their cashew cream cheese is out of this world. Cute place, highly recommend.

Best vegan food in Medellin - Edit
We tried several "tapas" from the menu and every single one of them was super delicious and special as well. They have a cheesy cashew creme, that is very good. You should especially try the potatoes with this creme.

Lovely service and free, naturally-filtered water! I enjoyed the cheese plate and the server was so caring. We wanted to try the pizza, but they were out of it.
Read more🍰 The cheesecake base was too acidic for me (too much lime), but I loved the rich, creamy texture and the sweetness was just right. The potatoes were okay. I didn’t care for the Aranchini risotto balls and in the end, found a few plates to lack balance. I could taste some powerful flavors in each dish, but they were so separate from each other. The dishes need something to bring the flavors within them together. 😌🙏🏽

flavorful and satisfying, a little bit pricy - Edit
I really enjoyed eating here. Papas were great, crispy, loved the cream underneath; Arancinis were amazing and the cheese platter def worth trying. They definitely know what they’re doing in the kitchen, especially when it comes to the vegan cheeses. Last but not least, the cheese cake was the cherry on top although it could have been just a little bit sweeter or less acidic. Aesthetically pleasing place, minimalistic and tasteful interior, plus the evening sun shining through. No 5 stars because it didn’t absolutely blow me away and it’s pricy but I certainly love the concept and all the flavors.

Best Meal in Colombia - Edit
I went here for dinner with a friend of mine. The first thing that struck me was the animal rights stickers and messages here and there on the walls. I liked it.
Read moreIt's a tapas style restaurant so we ordered three dishes to share: Pasta cuatro quesos (32.000 COP), Papas con queso crema ajo negro (23.000 COP) and Baos de coliflor (24.000 COP).
It was the best meal I've had so far in Colombia. Everything tasted amazing and my favorites were the pasta and potatoes. I'll definitely get them again when I go back, which I certainly intend to do. :)

Our favourite restaurant in Medellín! - Edit
Everything about this restaurant is beautiful: from the interior to the presentation of the dishes. Even more importantly, the flavours were fantastic! Each dish tasted sublime and really different (I personally find with vegan shared dining concepts the dishes often taste very similar). The staff are also very friendly and attentive. Our favourite part of the evening was also the fact that we were (seemingly and judging only on the amount of Spanish we heard!!) surrounded by locals. Always a good sign 😁 Overall a wonderful experience! #Veganuary

Very good - Edit
It’s on a little side street not too far from a main road that wasn’t super well lit. I got the mushroom tacos and the arancini. It was quiet at first but started to fill up nicely and it was just lots of chatter. The tacos here were so good, I had to get them both ways (mushroom there and cauliflower to-go). For real, they were so good. The arancini was very cheesy with a nice sauce that went perfect with it. It wasn’t a lot of food for the price but it sure was good.

Loved the food, vibe and friendly service! - Edit
We loved our experience here. The food was amazing - we shared a pizza, stir fry and cabbage roast - don’t knock it till you try it - super delicious! The service was friendly and we even had the chef and the owner drop by our table to check we were happy with everything. It doesn’t look much from the outside and it’s down a side street, but once inside it’s lovely. We shared a cheesecake for dessert. It was delicious. Creamy with a tart berry topping.

Chill Spot; Good Food - Edit
I liked this place. Laid back vibe which I like. I tried the story fry noodles and they were pretty good. I’ve seen comments about the portion size and yeah, if you’re going with a 1 or 2 you may want to order a couple extra dishes. But for one person, the serving sizes are fine.

Soooooo good!!!!!!!! - Edit
This place is absolutely amazing!
Read moreThe flavors are really good and special, they definitely know how to make vegan food and you can feel it while eating.
I had 3 dishes (and a lot left over)
I had the oyster mushroom tacos- they were really good. The mushrooms were very tasty, it was delicious.
The “cheesy” pasta - super cool, comes with mushrooms and the sauce is so unique!
The potatoes with the vegan cheese - how do they do this?? Incredible, really tasty and even just the potatoes are seasoned well and very tasty on their own.
Didn’t have a chance to try the dessert because I was so full but I hope I will be able to come again.
Pros: Special food, Amazing flavor, Good service

Creative veg - Edit
We got takeout from Real Vegetal, and waited about 20 minutes while they prepared our order. I couldn't really identify any of the dishes, but they were different from other vegan restaurants, and flavorful.
Read moreDownside: we ordered one dish per person to share. When we opened the containers, we were kinda surprised at the small amount of food. I am normally the member of the party who gives half her dinner away because it's too much for me, but I might have been able to finish all three dishes on my own. Two per person would have been more realistic for my family.
If Vegetal wants to serve relatively small amounts (albeit the same price point as a regular portion at other places) that's their prerogative. But I wish they'd state that on the menu. Or they could have mentioned it when we ordered.
I don't want to detract from the excellent food, but it's a disappointment to finish a meal and still feel hungry.

Tasty tapas, but lacks protein! - Edit
As other reviews have pointed out, it's a small plate kind of restaurant, so things get more expensive. The place is nice and the staff really friendly.
Read moreWe had the mushroom tostada, which I found really tasty, followed by oyster mushroom tacos, which were just good. Then, we had the cauliflower baos. The bun itself was nice, but I didn't like the breaded cauliflower filling. I don't understand why people choose to put cauliflower at the centre of a dish and I don't think I ever will. It has no umami and the texture is not great.
This leads me to an important remark about the menu - it seriously lacks protein. Despite often described as such in Colombia, mushrooms, while tasty, are not protein! There were no legumes, no tofu, no seitan, etc. I don't expect (nor want) meat replacements in everything, but protein is an essential nutrient.
Finally, we indulged with a fluffy and tasty chocolate cake slice.
I would rate this somewhere between 4 and 5, not sure exactly where. Given my partner liked it so much, I will err by rounding up.

Delicious, smaller plates - Edit
All the food we ate here was really very tasty & varied and we tried the vast majority of dishes they had, even returning on our last day to order some food “to go” for a long bus journey.
Read moreIf you want some delicious food and are happy to spend a little more than usual then you should definitely visit this restaurant and stop reading the review now.

The main thing stopping this restaurant from being exceptional is some confusion over the portion sizes. It’s not clear whether they are trying to be a tapas-style restaurant where each person orders ~3 dishes or the more conventional “order a main and if you’re hungry add on a starter/dessert”.
If you order just one main (which is a comparable price to mains in other Medellin restaurants), you will leave hungry and dissatisfied. If you order 3 dishes per person you will be very satisfied… until you see the bill(***).
On another day perhaps I’d feel that this criticism should warrant a 4 star review. It’s pretty close, but in this case I’ll stick with 5.
Hopefully if we ever get the chance to return they will offer the option of big plates (i.e. you only need one) and have a separate option which keeps the tapas dream alive.
——————
(***) Note that prices were only expensive in Colombian terms (and in particular with respect to similar restaurants we tried in Medellin/Poblado). Prices are still significantly cheaper than you will be used to paying in restaurants in any major European or American city.

A true gem of Medellin, don't miss out - Edit
This restaurant serves tapas style plates that celebrate the abundance and deliciousness of plant-based food. The menu is short but sweet, with dishes that change frequently and offer a nice balance of lighter and heavier dishes. They also make their own cashew cheese that adds a creamy touch to some of their plates.
Read moreI was blown away by the food at Real Vegetal. Every dish was a delight for the senses, with vibrant colours, aromas and flavours. The beetroot salad was a symphony of freshness and creaminess, while the oven potatoes were a crispy and warm delight. The oyster mushroom kimchi toast was a fiery and funky fusion, and the risotto was a cozy and satisfying bowl of goodness. The cake of the day (chocolate) was the cherry on top of the cake, literally and figuratively. It was moist, rich and not too sweet.
I loved Real Vegetal so much that I went back for lunch the next day. It was just as amazing as the first time. Real Vegetal is hands down the best vegan restaurant in Medellin. If you are in town, don’t miss the chance to try it. You will thank me later.
