No cake but good coffee

I popped in for coffee and cake on a Sunday morning and the decaf oat latte was lovely but disappointingly there wasn't a single dairy free cake or scone option let alone vegan.

Nice place if you want soup but there was nothing vegan on the menu that I could see and staff just shrugged and offered a gluten free cake option so maybe not aware of gluten and dairy intolerances being different issues?

Pros: Nice space, cheery and clean, Decent coffee

Cons: No dairy free options when asked, except soup, Staff unaware of dairy vs gluten intolerances, Nothing on regular menu marked vegan

Cosy cafe in Kirkwall with tasty vegan options and a local charm

We enjoyed a lovely visit to Real Food Cafe, tucked away at the back of the Judith Glue arts and crafts shop, which has beautiful locally handcrafted items for sale. The cafe has a cosy, welcoming atmosphere, making it a nice spot to relax or get some work done with their free Wi-Fi.

Their daily soup is vegan and the one today was delicious—I had the carrot and courgette soup, which was full of flavour. The bread was locally made and served with a vegan Stork margarine option, which was a thoughtful addition. They offer both oat and soy milk for coffee, including decaf, and the coffee itself was smooth and well-roasted.

While the range of vegan options isn’t huge, it’s great to have a local cafe in Orkney that caters to vegans, especially when options can be limited. The staff seem knowledgeable about vegan products, which is always appreciated. A good choice for a warming meal and a relaxed atmosphere!

Pros: Tasty vegan options where there aren’t many around, Friendly staff and local charm, Relaxed atmosphere with free Wi-Fi

Cons: Options aren’t advertised well so best to ask
