Breakfast - Edit
I went to this place with My friend the first morning we were in Madrid. The menu consisted of mostly homemade bread with different toppings like chocolate spread, avocado, vegan cheese and Tomato, they were all under 4€. Tjej they Also had a breakfast sandwich that came with scrambled tofu, tempeh bacon and roasted potatoes, but it was a whooping 7.50€. Me and my friend chose the homemade soyyoghurt with granola and fresh fruit and it was delicious, 4€. Many different fruits and the plating was beautiful. We also ordered lattes with rice milk (you can choose between oat, rice, soy, almond and coconut milk) and two raw cakes (6.50€/each), the plain cheesecake and a carob cake. The food was delicious and very filling and I would definitely go back If Im Evert back in Madrid, bit i eosh it was a little cheeper.
Pros: Nice staff, Free wi-fi , Delicious food
Cons: A little pricy

Creative, Organic, Vegan with a Good Vibe and Friendly Service - Edit
This cozy, quaint vegan restaurant is located in the Barrio de las letras section of Madrid. It was quite packed when I arrived starving on the Friday before Christmas. Even though they were packed and very busy and I had no reservation, the staff was extremely friendly and spoke English really well. Eventually, after a wait, they were able to accommodate me at the bar. Everyone from the hostess to the servers were super friendly. The organic and Buddhist flair reminded me of California and I felt right at home.
The food was delicious and creative. The starter consisted of a cabbage slaw with currants and was reminiscent of curry and salad. For the main dish, I chose a carrot and green bean dish with tempeh. It was savory and not sweet, but light, and accompanied by a green sauce similar to guacamole, but with a smokey/salty flavor. They offered a fermented drink, which was similar to kombucha, but less fizzy and a bit sweeter - the carrot ginger version was tasty. For my dessert, I chose the nut-free option, which was a chai muffin (moist and delicious even though I'm not a big chai fan), accompanied by espresso.
It was a lovely experience. The staff even suggested other restaurants to try on Christmas Day and in Palma de Mallorca. I highly recommend Rayen Vegano and will definitely go back when I return to Madrid.
Pros: friendly staff, creative, excellent organic food, staff spoke English

Very elaborated vegan dishes - Edit
This is probably the best vegan place in Madrid. Their cuisine is very original and healthy. But there are some downsides. First, it is impossible to get into without a reservation. The place is so small! Also the tables are very small and close one to another and the chairs are quite small, so eating there is not as confortable as it should be. Last but not least, the menu is quite pricey. But anyway, if you have a chance of visiting Rayen, go there, you won't be dissapointed.
EDIT:
After my second visit, I must change from the rating from 5 to 4 stars. Every dish out of three that I ordered was quite tasteless. The decoration was as always, supreme, very eyepleasing but there were no taste... The dinner did not gone wrong because of very good cakes (asked for three), but the main courses weren't so special...

Lovely place, great cakes, friendly staff - Edit
I arrived hungry at 4pm, which is exactly when the kitchen closes until 9. The friendly waitress did, however, let me have a slice of carrot cake which was delicious. Hope to be back for a hot meal!

Elaborate cuisine, friendly staff - Edit
I had a menu (13 €50) with an entry (to choose among 2 possibilities), a main dish (2 possibilities), a drink (3 possibilities), homemade bread and dessert (3 possibilities) or coffee or tea. I chose as entry was a cream of Swiss chard, as main dish an elaborate preparation whose main component was zucchini, as drink water with cinnamon, as dessert a piece of chocolate cake. All these were tasty and fresh.
The staff is friendly.
The restaurant is small and it is necessary to reserve.
Pros: Elaborate cuisine, Friendly staff, Moderate price
Cons: Not spacious

Lovely place for breakfast or lunch - Edit
Went here for brunch - the yoghurt and granola was a bit small for the price, but my boyfriend got the house sandwich which was insanely good. Usually I hate vegan cheese but this was amazing! Also lovely staff and great interior :) Very cute
Pros: Cute interior, Lots of choice, Great, high quality food
Cons: Expensive for portion size, Not much space inside

Too much elaborated dishes - Edit
We tried 3 dishes and they were really nice, but too much flavours at once, in my oppinion.
Better share dishes between 3 or 4 people, I do not think I could eat one only by myself... Too cloying for me.
Very small place, call for reservation always.
We will come back with reinforcements :)
Pros: Very elaborated diches, Natural juices
Cons: A bit cloying

Delicious lunch menu - Edit
Delicious vegan food. Went there for lunch twice and everything I had was flavorful, fresh and well cooked. Recipes are innovative and the food tastes delicious primarily because they prepare it daily with no microwave and no processed additives or ingredients. Lunch is a very good deal and includes soup/salad, main dish, dessert/coffee and a drink. The vegan kefir (similar to kombucha) was pretty good.

Sublime food! - Edit
We visited Rayen Vegano twice, once for breakfast and once for lunch. Both times we made reservations, which I'd definitely recommend as people were getting turned away. It's deservedly popular: the food is really delicious!
For breakfast, my partner had the Sunday special pancakes, which were a real treat. I had the tempeh sandwich, which was really spectacular. The homemade bread was unbelievably good! We also shared a piece of raw peanut butter cake, which was absolutely amazing, but cost €6.50, which is far too much for a dessert.
On a different day, we had the lunch set menu. There are two choices for each course, for €11.50 a person. We had a salad starter, which had an amazing mushroom dressing. We ordered one each of the mains and shared them. The quinoa timbale was really light and refreshing, but a little small. The seitan pastry with mashed potato and tomato sauce was very flavoursome. The dessert options were both muffins, which was a little unexciting, but they were still good.
This was one of the best places we visited in Madrid, both in terms of food and service. Really lovely!
Pros: Delicious food, Great service
Cons: Quite small, booking required

Cons: Portions not very large, Just a few tables

Pros: lugar bonito
Cons: mucho ruido y pocas nueces

NoemiRayen 18 Jun 2016 - Hola Stefany,

twice in 2 days! - Edit
I took my wife and my parents to Rayen Vagano and what a feast we had!
Reservations are essential for dinner as the space is very cramped and they only are open on Saturday and Friday nights (they should open every night!).
There is a reason for why it is cramped as the food and the staff are 5 stars! My parents who are not the most avid fans that we are going vegan were absolutely blown away at the food and desserts and rolled ourselves out of there. Try everything!
Pros: Food, Drinks, Desert
Cons: Tight space, seating comfortability

Best vegan restaurant in Madrid - Edit
I've been many times since it opened and it has become my favourite! They are really concerned about using organic local fresh ingredients and I appreciate it.
Their daily menu changes but it's normally shown in their website. They love trying new dishes. I love the raw noodles and the spinach lasagna.
Cakes are really tasty and there are gluten free options. The avocado and lemon raw cake is great.
Book a table, it's always busy.
Pros: Organic food, Nice staff

This is a cozy place in a quiet street on centric neighborhood. I had a great soup and noodles with seitan that were awesome. Everything is freshly made, including the bread, which is very good. There is a lot of emphasis on serving healthy food that tastes great. Staff is very friendly. I want to try it again!
Pros: Delicious, Healthy, Friendly staff
Cons: Not for large groups

Great starter, not so great main - Edit
Maybe we set a bar too high, but we expected better dishes.
The set lunch meal consisted of starter (pumpkin soup/grapeleaf millet roll with green salad), main (beetroot rice and adzuki bean sauce/augergine lasagne) and cakes (mango cramble/banana cake). The pumpkin soup was disappointedly bland, definately the worst soup I tried in Madrid eateries (see VEGA, LovingHut). The other entree was truly delightful: fabulous wrap of grapeleaf filled with corianderseed spiced millet and avocado together with a little salad drizzled with great tamari based sauce. Would go there just for that wrap! So we were thrilled about mains, but unfortunately we could not describe the quality of the lasagne because it was heavily salted (barely edible) we managed to finish it only because we shared it. Beetroot rice was mild and sweet (from beets) but the portion was way to small in comparison to lasagne slice. Cakes were tasty, but we left not entirely satisfied. Price was almost 30 euros with coffee/2 person. Would try again hoping the food will be better next time.
Pros: organic, friendly staff
Cons: small portions, oversalted lasagne

Good organic vegan restaurant - Edit
The number of vegan restaurants in Madrid is not huge. Only for that they deserve some recognition. The place is cozy, the staff is friendly and the food is all organic, vegan and quite good. You can see that they love what they do and try to get better everyday. In my opinion their cooking just keeps improving and being more innovative as they grow older.
Their menu of the day is always a good option at a reasonable price.
Pros: Good vegan food, Good menú del día

The best veg restaurant in Madrid - Edit
In the last couple of weeks I've been twice to El Rayén Vegano for lunch. Once on a weekday and the other time on the weekend. During the week they offer the menú del día (which changes daily) and it includes water (I usually order it infused with cardamom), an entree, a main dish and a dessert. And on weekends it's a la carta, a menu from where to pick. Every time I go there I leave feeling happy I went. The menú del día is always super tasty, elaborate and creative, plus the food is of great quality, you can definitely tell. The desserts are amazing! They keep changing and they never dissapoint. The last ones I've tried were an orange raw vegan cake, a coconut muffin and two different types of brownies, one with mocca on top. Delicious.
The cons: it's on the expensive side, especially on weekends. And the portion size is not huge.
The rest is all good: the food is excellent, the owners and servers are really nice; although the place is small (better call before or else you may not find a free table), it's nicely decorated, unlike many other vegan/vegetarian restaurants in Madrid.
Pros: Tasty food, Great desserts, Completely vegan
Cons: It's not cheap

I've just been there one time yet but I can definitly recommend it! The food is absolutly awesome and the restaurant is very cute. Everything is organic and more or less healthy. One of the vegan restaurants who do not only offer burger and pizza. Nevertheless the burger was the best choice. ;-) You can also buy a few vegan basics there.
Pros: location, tasty, organic
Cons: price

so good - Edit
This was the first place i went in Madrid, and i'm i went there! the staff was so lovely, and the atmosphere was very much don't to earth. I ordered a brunch. First i got my coffe and 3 pieces of bred with avocado - not enough avocado for 3 pieces - but close enough! then my juice arrived, and i could feel my body say thank you. then the scrable tofu and some potatoes arrived - it tasted very excellent - but the tofu was a little (and i mean a little) dry.
The coffee was so good that i needed one more ;) all in all this is a very lovely place and i wasn't hungry when i left the place.
Pros: healfy and nice, Lovely staff, down to earth

Great! - Edit
I had a very pleasant mid-sized brunch and a most interesting chat with the waitress, who was apparently a co-owner as well. She emphasised their belief in transparency and that everything they use is certified organic. While the juice (plumb and papaya) could have been tastier, the toast was fine at the very least... the best thing food-wise was the tofu scramble though, where I especially appreciated the use of salvia.
As the menu is varied and reportedly changes depending on the season, I just wish I could eat at Rayén more often...

Great menu - Edit
we went for lunch on the weekend and were impressed by the large and interesting menu. So rare as a vegan to go somewhere where you have to spend time debating over the many choices. Food and fresh juices were really good, so good we decided to fit in another visit before we left Madrid. Alas, didn't read the opening hours and turned up on a Tuesday, the one day they close. Staff spoke English and have menus in Spanish and English. If your visiting Madrid try and go on a weekend, there are street markets in the surrounding streets and it makes for a fun and lively atmosphere.
Pros: Great menu, lots of choices, well priced, helpful, friendly staff, comfy and welcoming ambience
Cons: closed on Tuesday's!

Small and cosy vegan restaurant!! - Edit
This restaurant is a small and cosy place!
The staff is very friendly and we got all the informations we asked for about the food.
Everything is vegan of course but also organic and homemade; besides, they don't use microwave!
They offer a daily menu.
Food is delicious; we had a zucchini gazpacho, some ramen with cauliflower and a chocolate cake for dessert.
They also offer some "aromatised" water with the menu: cardamome or ginger (great idea btw!).
Recommanded place!!
Pros: Atmosphere, Fresh food, Price
Cons: Not enough choice on menu, Small place

Nice brunch - Edit
I love brunches, so when I saw that they offer one I was more than eager to try it out. They have the brunch (large), brunchito (medium), brunchito verde (small) option. I went (of course) for the large one (:
The food tasted really good. I specially liked the olive spread and bread (I love bread and spreads, yum yum yum). The sizes of the portions where good, even tough I could have eaten more. On the other hand one of my friends couldn't finish one course because she was so full, so for her the sizes of the portions where more than enough.
They lose a star because we waited for a long time before we were attended (and that's only because I asked the staff if she could take our order/ and people that came after us being attended before) and the main course wasn't warm at all (Potatoes and tofu scrambeld "eggs". They don't use microwaves, but still I'd prefer warm food, there are other heating options). I'd expect a little more since it's not the cheapest option on the menu.
They have a written menu by now and in my opinion with many options (see comments at the beginning). Staff seemed to speak at least 3 languages: Spanish, English and Italian, therefore perfect for tourists.
Pros: olive spread, muesli, variety in brunch
Cons: waiting time to give order up, cold main course

Loved It - Edit
Located close to the Prado Museum and the Anton Martin metro stop this little restaurant exceeded our expectations in every way. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable and you almost feel as though you're at a friends house for lunch. All of the food was vegan, delicious and well presented but the bread and the desserts are on another level, wow.
It turns out our waitress was the owner, which I liked, and she spoke English in addition to Spanish which helped me quite a bit. She said she opened the restaurant because she likes to eat vegan and organic and was having trouble finding places to eat that met her standards. Bravo!

perfect little place - Edit
Love, love, love this place. Beautiful, fresh, healthy handmade food. Food can come out a little slowly, but can forgive them as everything is freshly prepared to order. Went twice for brunch, and once for the menu del dia, and couldn't fault it. The handmade bread is beautiful, and the rice milk coffee delicious. Can't reccommend enough, especially compared to some of the stodge we were served in other vegan places in Madrid.

Great Place - Edit
Not too tricky to find (from Metro Antón Martín go down Calle Leon and hang a right), the front, decor and design were friendly and bright and the vibe inside was friendly. I went on my own and the people who came in all remarked "Where is everyone?" so I can imagine it being a popular hang-out spot.
Opening hours are Brit friendly (as in early lunches are accommodated).
I enjoyed a very tasty Seitan in mustard sauce over vegetables, amazing lemon and lime cake and proper coffee. The other desserts also sounded very creative.
There was disabled access (including toilet) and the inclusivity extended to a baby-changing station and even a step-up at the sink for youngsters in the bathroom.
A tiny bit out of my usual price range but would go again for my next visit to Madrid (and eat lots of cake :)
Pros: Great tasing food and creative desserts, Friendly vibe, Fairly central

Design is great, food is better - Edit
Though small, there are plenty of seats for several couples or a small group of friends to share a meal together, and the choice of food though might not be on several pages (as so many travellers expect) but rather a small selection of dishes that they prepare fresh, and prepare very well indeed.
We're much happier to stop somewhere that cooks a few select dishes very well than the alternative of too many menu items all made without much care.
The portions are great, and prices are fair, and the staff are friendly and will try their best to help you with the menu should you have any problems (though we hardly expect any).
There are also a few seats outside, be sure to get their early if you wish the few in the shade.
Great coffee too!
Pros: Design, Well prepared selection of food, A very well done tofu scramble
Cons: Lighting could be improved

Love Rayen Vegano!! - Edit
Fantastic!!!! It is so wonderful to arrive at a restaurant and know that I can order anything on the menu. I didn't even recognize some of the vocabulary in Spanish for the plate of the day, but ordered it anyway.....and it was delicious! The chef is working hard in the kitchen and beautiful, healthy, and tasty food is the result. The garden salad is refreshing and such a nice change from greasy tapas. Go to Rayen Vegano, it is terrific and just want your body needs.

very good - Edit
I went there on sunday midday. Must have good reputation because many people had booked their table. Staff very kind. Very good meal, maybe just a little expensive for the quantity of food served, or the plate of meal could be a little more full. Also, I payed 1.50€ for 2 slices of good bread and I just eat one: a bit expensive for one slice.
Anyway, I recommend.

Wonderful presentation, healthy, amazing ambience - Edit
The ambience in Rayen is relaxed and revitalizing. The aesthetic is as close to perfect as you could imagine. The owners have a wonderful sense of style and you feel instantly calmer and more comfortable upon entering the doors!
We were in Madrid for only two days. On our second day we ate at Rayen for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner! My wife and I have eaten at many U.S. vegan establishments and thus have much to compare it to. The defining characteristic that I take away from my experiences at Rayen, one that I think differentiates this small establishment from some of their American counterparts, is that each and every dish felt healthy, yet satisfying and filling. No one flavor trumped another and the integration of their dishes was impeccable. It was beyond doubt that they only used fresh and quality ingredients. I recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a healthy, satisfying meal. After leaving the vegan wasteland known as Granada, Rayen was an oasis.
P.S. if your Spanish is not great like ours, no worries the owner/waitress is very patient and kind and speaks great English to help you out.

So glad this place exists!! - Edit
So, Madrid is just about the least vegan-friendly place I've ever been to. Seriously. It's appalling. However, vegans can find a great meal at Rayen Vegano for a reasonable price. The menu is limited, but everything on it is quality. We went our first day in town, and then we went back because my boyfriend, who isn't even vegetarian, wanted to since he liked it so much. Their bread is heaven! Make sure you order it. It's several days later, and we still are talking about it! You really can't go wrong here. It's all so well done, and the place itself is charming. The staff are also very friendly. In a city full of meat and cheese, this is a happy oasis!
Pros: Awesome food!, Friendly service, Charming atmosphere
Cons: Limited menu

Our favorite restaurant in Madrid! - Edit
Out of all the great vegan restaurants in Madrid (and there are plenty), Rayen is by far our favorite. Meat eaters, vegans, vegetarians would simply love this place. Everything from the atmosphere to the service, the price and of course the food is top notch. They serve daily options at lunchtime which have always been delicious and have a stupendous dinner menu with special dishes as well. Their home baked bread is to die for and the vegan desserts are unbelievable. From their savory dishes we've had their lentil and beet burgers (one of our favorite dishes here and THE best veggie burger we've ever had), their eggplant parmigianna (the flavors were crazy! so good!), their 'choclo' casserole, their potato and veggie gratin, their pumpkin soup with crispy mushrooms on top, their thai inspired soup, their Sicilian eggplants, their bulgur and raisin salad, chocolate and banana cake (my personal favorite), brownies, pear and banana cake with plum jam, their famous carrot cake, and their pumpkin and chocolate cake... every single one of these dishes has been incredible and full of flavor with a beautiful presentation. My husband and I live in Madrid and we go every week! Sometimes twice a week when we want to indulge in their scrumptious vegan brunch. The owners are always there and the service is wonderful! The restaurant reminds me a bit of those little French bistros in Paris which makes coming here a real treat. Our doggie has come to brunch with us and they have always welcomed her which is great too. There really is no place like this in Madrid, whether you're a vegan or not. They also sell a homemade Sicilian 'caponata' so that you can take it home with you and it's one of those magical little things to take home or give as a gift (ask them if they have some!). Don't hesitate to go to this one, I've never been disappointed at Rayen and my non vegan friends love it as well! It's super helpful to follow them on Facebook since they post lots of pictures of what they're preparing on certain days, their schedule is also there which is great to check before you go. If you're dining alone, this is also a great spot as it's small, cozy and very comfortable.
Pros: Incredible food, Beautiful restaurant and atmosphere, Amazing service, dogs are welcome!

Delicious and cosy! - Edit
We went to try this cafe on I think a Tuesday for lunch, but it was closed. Luckily on our last day we tried going back and made up for missing out first time round by eating vast amounts of food (and nearly missing our flight!!!)
The cafe is small and has really cosy, quaint decor, a bit like a country cottage! The location is also easy to get to. The waitress was really friendly, and even though it was her first day working there, was very helpful when it came to explaining what was on the menu.
We arrived too early for the lunch set menu, so ordered some dips with bread, which included tapenade and houmous and were all delicious.
Afterwards we ordered the set lunch menu of 3 courses and a drink. There were two options for each, so between us we ordered it all! I can't remember excatly what we had now as was a month or so ago, but I had a pumkin soup with more homemade bread.
For mains we had tofu balls in sauce and the second option was a bean stew. Both were tasty and wholesome and I liked the variety of the food, which obviously had a lot of thought behind. We had our cake for dessert (one chocolate, one lemon) to take away as we ran out of time. Both were good.
I would defintely recommend this place to anyone in Madrid!

a cafe that every vegan should know about! - Edit
This delightful cafe located in a wonderful area of Madrid has some of the best vegan food in town! The hummus trio was something to be seriously appreciated, and the veg-hamburger was even more tremendous. Please, if you're a vegan and you are in Madrid visit Rayen Vegano! it will never dissapoint. The only thing is that I wish i wasn't so full I couldn't try the cakes! next time..
Pros: Hummus Trio, Plates of the Day, Fresh food, friendly staff

Very nice! - Edit
I found this lovely and cosy organic vegan restaurant one morning in Madrid. The food is tasty and healthy and the owners are very friendly. I did not try the cakes as it was early at day but they looked amazing!
