Nice location, decent food - Edit
Beautiful location in Varissaari next to the ruins of Fort Elisabet. Clearly labeled vegan options in the menu, including vegan burger and tacos. I had the grilled tofu with potatoes that turned out to be fries. Tofu was juicy, could have been crispier to my taste. The foods can take their time, since the boat brings people hourly.

Certainly not cruelty-free - Edit
We really liked the food. Available dishes were versatile, even though there were just a few options to choose. Even the gluten-free bun was surprisingly soft and good. Staff was nice and helpful, and had knowledge of vegan options.

Nonetheless, even one star is not deserved in this place. Our otherwise nice and happy trip on Varissaari island was ruined, as we saw the restaurant staff chasing and honking for geese with chicklings with an ATV on the rocks just next to the restaurant. For this completele absurd and meaningless act of violence I do not recommend or support this restaurant anymore.
Pros: Tasteful and sufficient food, Beautiful, historical and romantic location, Near wildlife (birds)
Cons: Just a few vegan options, Even less gluten-free options, No FODMAP diet options

Lovely little island - Edit
There is not too many vegan options in Kotka, so Vaakku is a pleasant surprise. We had vegan street food platter: cauliflower wings & sweet potato fries, salad and two different mayos.
