Great vibes & food - Edit
Everything in the restaurant is vegan, makes choosing what to get a lot harder! Got their “chicken” sandwich which used mushrooms as the “patty” - really tasty. Loved the music and the decor, will definitely visit again if I’m in NYC!

Have you been to Bunna Cafe and also Bersi Express Ethiopian? They’re good Ethiopian places as well, it seems that Ras is a little more americanized?

I never been bunna but I’ll give it a look, I never had Ethiopia style of vegan meal it’s very very interesting to me , thank you for referring

Curious about Bunna too, heard good things, but it’s a trip out there.

Oops that was supposed to be “Bersi Ethiopian”, not sure why autocorrect thought it was “Express” haha. They’re both great places, if you drink coffee and want to try their coffee ceremony, I recommend making a reservation because it can get quite crowded!
Read moreIf you go to Bunna Cafe, there’s a lot to do in the area, so make it a day. Lots of thrift stores within walking distance if it’s your thing, a record store, a tiny vegan grocery store, there’s also a vegan bar/jazz venue if you want to stick around in the evening.
For Bersi Ethiopian, there’s also a ton to do in Greenpoint or the nearby Williamsburg.
Definitely worth the trip!!

I just take a look at the bunna cafe, is it cheaper? It looks bigger portion😄please don’t laugh at me but the first time I saw the roll up sourdough I really thought that was paper towels, didn’t realize it was food 🙃🙃🙃

Yes Bunna Cafe is pretty affordable but I think Bersi’s is even cheaper. I know they do look like paper towels a little hahaha

Spotted this place on Happy Cow and wanted to give it a try. When the server told me they had gluten-free injera I was thrilled. I tried the Mercado plate with an extra order of injera. We also had a side of fries and amazing coffee.

Not for the spice intolerant! - Edit
Incredible spice, flavors, and decorated in vibrant art is @rasplantbased with locations in Brooklyn and NYC. We checked out the Brooklyn location.
Read moreWe enjoyed everything we tried:
-Butternut Sambusa which was so light, flaky on the outside, creamy interior. I wish we got yhe assortment to try them all!
-Ras Breakfast with a little bit of everything... injera firfir, scrambled "eggs", cucumber salad, potato hash, injera rolls
-Ras Tibs which were so zesty, spicy, and delicious!
I never had Ethiopian food before, a huge fan! I blown away by the rich depth of flavors and spices. If your sensitive to spice or heat, may not be for you, but I am obsessed!

Vegan Ethiopian restaurant with GF, kosher, and raw options - Edit
Love the vibe and energy of Ras. The staff’s kindness reflects the ethos of a vegan restaurant. The murals on the red brick are amazing, marking this place as undeniably Brooklyn. Ethiopian food is inherently communal, breaking bread and eating with your hands over shared platters. The Mercato or Piassa provide a variety of options; the former comes with red lentil stew, my fav Ethiopian dish. Ras shines brightest on its entrees though. The Dulet, diced royal trumpet ‘shrooms with onion and jalapeno, in particular, is so freakin’ delicious. Also, check out the curated cocktails and mocktails and if you still have room, the raw and kosher desserts. Totally worth it. There’s so much on the menu (with GF and kosher options) to explore and it’s a delight.

Good Ethiopian food! - Edit
I'll be honest, I've had better Ethiopian food in Dubai but I was craving some lentils and warming curries so Ras delivered. The staff is lovely and the vibes at night is bustling so a great place to go in a group - not so much as a solo diner

We had a delicious feast here today and couldn't recommend more highly. Really exquisite, tasty selection. We shared the two platters, the tibs, and had blueberry lavender kombucha. Wish we could stay in Brooklyn longer to come here again and try other dishes!

Beautiful Atmosphere - Edit
This is a great restaurant with a beautiful atmosphere for dining in and even sitting outdoor. The waitress and waiter were very attentive. They explained food options, and description of their delicious menu.. I enjoyed everything I ordered except the chips and guacamole felt the chip was super greasy. But overall enjoyed everything on my plate..

We had the kifto with turmeric rice and the ras tibs with injeera. Both dishes were really tasty and flavorful. For dessert, we had the tiramisu style cheesecake, which was lovely. The portions were a bit small, though.

Delicious but pricey - Edit
After having enjoyed Bersi’s eye-poppingly large platters that feed 3-4 people for $20-60 in total, not even Ras’s lunch special ($18 bowls) seemed like a good deal. I did prefer the collard greens at Ras over Bersi’s though. (Too bad I didn’t try the injera at Ras for a comparison.) All that said, I did enjoy the Bole Bowl: the crunchy soy crumbles were a fun textural element, and the avocado injected creaminess into the mix. FYI, they have a couple of beverages with honey: honey wine and hard kombucha.

Delicious squash sambusa - Edit
The staff and ambiance was great. We sat outside under heating lamps on a cooler November night and stayed warm.
Read moreI LOVED the squash sambusas. They were creamy and delicious.
We also got both of the platters. Both were delicious, but they were on par with other Ethiopian platters I've tried elsewhere. My husband and I both preferred the piassa platter (over the mercato platter), even though we usually like spicy and it did not seem spicy at all.
Pros: Squash sambusa, Amazing staff, Outdoor seating w/ heat lamps
