Spice Central

Visited here a few times over the years, where I've always had a pleasant experience.

On our most recent visit, the 3 of us each ordered a garlic mushroom on puri starter and shared a vegetable Dhansak, a Rogan Josh and a Madras, with chapatis and rice.

Both the Dhansak and Rogan Josh dishes were flavourful and nicely spiced, but there was a sparseness of vegetables in the madras and the naga was a little overpowering. The starters were also bland.

Good location and staff, with reasonable pricing. A decent option overall.

A decent standard

After the unwelcomely mild start to 2022 the first sign of some proper sub zero January weather was a good opportunity to go out for a nice curry. The £14.99 four course special between 5-8pm is very good value indeed. I had the mushroom garlic on puri, a veg madras and mushroom pilau rice but skipped the 4th course of coffee or ice cream. They also put on a pickle tray and popadoms which was most welcome indeed.

Pros: Special offer during the week

Cons: Interior is a bit dated

Best Curry I've had in Ages!

Came here for a first date with my Boyfriend.
The staff were really friendly & helpful when I asked about what Vegan options they have. Onion Bajies were grate.

Pros: Good prices., City Centre based.

Very knowledgeable staff

The waiter was really helpful going through the menu with us. Sadly vegans only get 3 out of the 4 pickles with papadams, just a 4th empty bowl! The pickles were average. Sadly the onion bhajis are not vegan so we were unable to eat that (we normally order that), but the mushroom puri starter instead very nice and the lentil soup good too. Very quick service. The vindaloo tasted hot from peppery rather than hot from complex spicing, and we have had hotter... the dhansak was ok but I’d normally enjoy more pineapple. As we were vegan however there was probably no need to bring us the dessert menu nor the after eights. All in all an ok curry out, and we felt confident the food we ordered was vegan, but there might be places that specialise in vegan curry that might be better.

Pros: Knowledgeable, helpful staff, Quick service between courses

Cons: Onion bhaji not vegan - why!!?!! No need for egg!, No need for dessert menu or after 8s , Vegans can only have 3 pickles

Good vegan options

Most of the veg curries are vegan. It's a shame the nan's are not. The Rotti replacements are nice though.

The veggie curry was really good. Can't fault the food at all, really good stuff. Service was friendly and the staff are happy to cater for vegans

Pros: Food tastes great. , Vegan options

Cons: Vegan meats would be amazing

Worth visiting

Tasty food and a lot of dishes in the menu to choose from. Portions are huge. Proper prices.

-1 because it's not vegan ;-)

Lovely vegan meal - best I've ever eaten!

Staff are very welcoming of vegans and very knowledgable about what 'vegan' means. They will literally go through the entire menu pointing out what you can and cannot have. In addition, the chef will do some extra vegan options for you! Vegan food is cooked in separate pans. Food is excellent, service is second to none and ambience is lovely. Cannot recommend this place highly enough. This was the best Indian meal I've ever had in my life!
