Didn’t meet expectations

Halfway through a 6 week trip and I thought I’d take a break from local cuisine. I chose here based on reviews but was disappointed. The menu looks promising and perhaps I should have stuck with local fare. The gram omelettes was bland and dry, mine didn’t look like the pictures of others, unless they paid extra for all the sides. The smoothie bowl was average and more a smoothie plate. Cocktails were great, however, especially the curry mule. Nice building, though very much a western tourist bubble, like most of Ella. While I was there, several other customers thought it would be cool to start smoking in the middle of the restaurant, without any consideration for other people who were eating.

Pros: Range of options, Great cocktails

Cons: Expensive, although on par for similar restaurants, Underwhelming non-local options, Small serving sizes for some meals

Tasty and healthy, bit pricey

As like most places in Ella, food is more on the pricey side due to it being a tourist hotspot ~ nether the less, quality ingredients, great portion sizes and tasty 😋

Cozy restaurant with a really nice vibe

We really liked this place. The location is something special with many different flores and nice decoration. The food is really delicious. Of course it is at a higher price range, but still not overprized in my opinion.

Solid restaurant

Foreign options significantly more expensive than the local ones. I had the kottu which was very nice, good size portion. Make sure you get there early as the tables fill up quickly!

Pros: Reasonably priced local options , Good veggie options

Cons: Expensive foreign options

Brunch

Lots of vegan options for brunch - gram flour omelette, pancakes, avocado toast and scrambled tofu on toast.

We had the scrambled tofu, so tasty, loved the hummous and pesto base to the bagel.

Very chilled atmosphere - we sat for ages on the comfy sofas with our coffees.

Loved absolutely everything! Unofficial 5 stars

Came here twice over a 3 day stay because everything was just perfect! They have numerous vegan options and I wanted to try everything.

They had a three course vegan dinner menu which was absolutely flawless. I would have had this meal anywhere in the world and would have been equally as happy. For the starter I had a mushroom based fried croquette, the jackfruit wellington for main (the grilled veggies and gravy were absolutely heavenly), and a chocolate mousse for dessert. This was absolute perfection.

Had the fried mushroom burger when I returned the second time and was blown away as well.

Fantastic coffee and all staff knew what vegan was! Service was fantastic.

So many vegan options

This menu is filled with vegan marked options, which is great. They even had a good tofu scramble bagel, which made breakfast amazing. Would highly recommend.

Best vegan food in sri lanka

Wow! What a place...chilled out vibe in the centre of busy Ella.
Music is easygoing and the vibe is perfect for hanging out with friends and enjoying a nice meal and or drinks.
Been coming here loads so decided to review.

As a vegan it's rare to find a western style restaurant that not only offers a huge amount of vegan choices from the offset but also doesn't try to cater for the meat market. I'd say 70% of the menu is vegan...with 85% veggie and the remainder is non-veg.

Over the many trips I've tried almost the entire food and drinks menu. Personal favourite are the crispy mushroom burger, the pumpkin gnocchi, gram omlette and smoothie bowls.
The drinks menu also doesn't disappoint.
I'm impressed at their understand of vegan food, the menu is well labeled and even shows gluten free options.

Most meals served come with a generous salad which is colourful and tasty.
Decent price and big portions!

Oh and they support the local dog charity and sell some products that are working to support rural women which is great to see businesses doing this!
And their resident dog is the friendliest, cuddliest dog I've met in a long time!

If you're visiting sri lanka it's a must stop visit on your travels around this beautiful island. Bring your non-veg friends too...they will be impressed!

Pros: Fresh and super tasty food, Great vibe , They have a gorgeous cuddly dog

Cons: Nothing!

Tourist*innenrestaurant

Hier gibt es internationale Speisen. Man findet vorwiegend Backpacker*innen hier. Für Ella gewohnt höhere Preise.
Essen war aber lecker, nur etwas teuer.

Nice place.

Very clearly a tourist restaurant, however makes for a lovely change when you've been travelling for a while. Clearly labelled vegan options and plenty to choose from.
Staff were great, the food & drinks were quick and tasty. 100% worth a visit for any vegan.

Pros: Lots of vegan options

Loved this place

Would have been five stars if Happy Cow had have let me!
Had dinner & then back for brunch. We looked at others but they had poor quants of vegan options.
For dinner we had the nachos and the gnocchi. For brunch we had the ‘gram omelette.’
All three were outstanding, for both of us!

Pros: Quality ingredients. Good portions, Plenty of options for vegans, The cafés dog

Cons: Service is poor: staff don’t pay enough attention, Bribing customers w/food 4 tripadvisor5*

Good but overrated

Busy place, popular with tourists. Has a menu that includes some options that are specifically vegan, which is nice.

The food is good but not amazing. Sweet foods, like pancakes, are *very* sweet. Note that the "honey" on the menu is made from palm sugar, not bee honey. Smoothie bowls are pretty standard. The local dishes are good, but there are better options for it in the area (e.g. Matey Hut, Jade Green). Service can be hit-and-miss at busier times of the day. Prices are pretty high for Ella.

The No.1 place to eat as a vegan and veggie in Sri Lanka!!!!

Super tasty food in a chilled and cosy spot in the centre of Ella. The menu is clearly labelled and offers so many vegan dishes. Also catering for vegetarians, non veg and gluten free diets. I would say 70% of the dishes are vegan or can be made vegan. I particulary loved the crispy mushroom burger, homemade nachos and the smoothie bowls with edible flowers are amazing! They even have vegan mayo and lots of vegan friendly dips. A great find in Ella or even Sri Lanka overall!

Pretty delicious and interesting food

Visited the restaurant in December 2021. They had clearly marked vegan options on the menu. We went 2 times and we ordered a lot of good food: young coconuts, chips, wraps, soups, burgers, smoothies, sago mango.

The staff was quite friendly.

The only thing that I found weird was that the tips were incorporated in the final bill, which we didn't notice the first time, so keep that in mind...

Pros: Interesting and tasty food, Friendly staff, Lots of vegan options

Cons: Tips incorporated in the bill by default

Great vegan options

After reading other review, I'm confused, and wonder if they changed their menu? We ordered two local dishes, (other reviews said there aren't any local dishes,) the veg Kottu and also the curry. Both were delicious! Kottu wasn't low cal as it was made with coconut milk, but that's what made it so delicious and creamy. The curry was equally awesome and fun to try the 6-7 curries served along with the rice. Prices seemed reasonable. And yes! Their dog is adorable and would prefer you pet him rather than look at the menu. :)

Pros: Delicious local options, Cute resident dog , Quick service

Tasty smoothie bowl, but way too expensive!

I really enjoyed the Choco Banana smoothie bowl. The soy latte was not bad for SL standards. The staff were nice and the place was nice and chilled. On the flip side, we were unaware the prices were in USD! The 2 bowls and 2 coffees came to $16USD. This was too expensive for what it was.

Really good smoothie bowl and a fair café latté.

Tucked upstairs in a cosy terraced cafe, they offer a really good range of vegan options. We opted for the choco banana smoothie bowl which did not disappoint. They did well at substituting “western” smoothie bowl elements with local fare. The coffee, while not being barista standard, does a fair café latté by Sri Lankan standards. I preferred the coconut milk to the soy milk however my partner preferred the soy. Try and get the cosy couch seating at the front of the cafe and watch the world go by.

Pros: Good vegan options, Good coffee by SL standards, Cosy seating in their terrace
