Good range of vegan options

A great mix of vegan options are sprinkled into the traditional pub fayre on offer. We opted for the mushroom and ale pie. The pie was amazing. Though the seasonal veg that accompanied it was merger and did not include maple roasted carrots as advertised and the roast potato portion was abysmal compared to the chips option.

Pros: Tasty pie, Good quality

Cons: Portion control was poor, Not all veg as advertised was provided.

Confirmed does have vegan options

Confirmed does have vegan options. I enjoyed the mushroom and ale pie though the pastry was a little dry, while my partner enjoyed the burger veganised. Wine menu also clearly marked to show what's vegan.

NO VEGAN OPTIONS

The menus you see in the photos is gone. There is not no vegan or vegetarian menus and the vegan options are almost non existent. We left and went somewhere else

Pie was a bit dry and overcooked

Nice looking pub. Pie was ok. Filling was delicious but the pastry tasted over cooked / a bit burnt

It was okay. No longer had vegan menu and dirty toilets

The bloke who took our order (young biker with shoulder length hair) was literally well rude 😂 other staff pleasant enough. £8 something for the burger was reasonable and it was pretty good! Chips where nice but the coleslaw was almost pointless it was tasty but looked sad on the plate as you got like one spoonful. Toilets where absolutely vile

Pros: Not expensive , Burger was good , Allows dogs

Cons: Stank of old sick, Some staff where so rude , Not as many vegan options as they had before

No longer has a vegan menu

Due to new owners unfortunately there is no vegan menu. There is maybe two vegan options but we were told by staff that they ‘try’ to keep food separate from meat cooking. The chips are cooked in the same fryer as meat.

Came for Lunch

I was here with the rest of my immediate family for lunch whilst on holiday down here. The whole atmosphere of the place is very nice and has a real homely feel. They had many vegetarian options but weren't such a wide variety of vegan ones. There was only side dishes and a few puddings that were classed as vegan. I had a jacket potato with beans and a side salad and was very satisfied. I only have 4 stars due to the lack of choice, but other than that, it was really lovely

dog friendly pub lunch out

It really helps when your on holiday to have the HappyCow app, together with doggiepubs app we picked this pub for lunch because of its previous review and the tempting sounding vegan separate menu. Sure enough they were very welcoming suggesting the uncarpeted areas for our pooch to sit. The separate vegetarian/vegan menu had about 4 vegan options for mains, I chose the quinoa burger in bun with French fries, with additional chilli sauce. Very nice just the right amount of spice.
Two options for dessert ice cream or chocolate & coconut torte, the torte was gorgeous very rich but great with the vanilla ice cream.
They also had a great beer garden.

Great find!

This is becoming somewhat of a regular for us! Walks in the new forest with family followed by a pub that caters amazingly for vegans as well as omni's. They have a full vegan menu with lots of choice! The chocolate & coconut tart for pud is great!!

Vegetarian Options

The info for this pub is clearly out of date. There is no longer a separate vegetarian or vegan menu. There is however a menu with vegetarian options marked, of which there seemed to be quite a few. There are no vegan items marked.

The server did understand what 'vegan' meant and was able to offer suggestions of two menu items that could be altered to be made vegan, a curry and a penne arrabbiata. A bit disappointing they have obviously not carried on catering well for vegans. but good that there was more than hot chips which is usually the only option at most pubs.

Unfortunately the food was pretty average (very overcooked pasta, cold chips), but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they were having an off day on this occasion.

Pros: Nice location, Vegetarians well catered for

Cons: No vegan items on menu, Quality of meals not great

choice and plenty of it

Impromptu pub lunch Saturday afternoon.
Warming log fire and good range of beers with a specials board just for vegan and vegetarian options. It was no problem for them to accommodate my vegetarian and dairy free choice and the portion size was just right. The previous reviews on here are out of date and I would definitely go back.

Pros: choice and accommodating with good portions

Cons: parking is limited but there is the pay to park be, it was very busy so service was a bit slow

Friendly staff but bad food

This is a chain pub which used to have a vegan owner and the current manager carried it on thinking they could tap into the 'niche' market.

The food is clearly not made by vegans. It is either bland or far too spicy. It's a shame because it is in a lovely location and has a nice outdoor area. The bar staff are friendly and helpful but unfortunately the food just is not worth it.

Pros: outdoor seating, friendly staff, cheap

Cons: poor quality food

Good choice but no dessert!

There is a big vegetarian menu with about 6 vegan choices, which is way more then your average pub! I had the vegan fajitas which were yum. Only let down was no vegan option for dessert.

Pros: good choice, large portion sizes

Cons: no vegan dessert option, no soy milk for coffees

Disappointed

Staff good, vegan choice poor unless you Like spicy food. They had no vegan dessert. chef poor cocked up my order and they didn't have any left of my first choice, they did give me my meal for free and said sorry. but the only choice I had were fajitas and they were disgusting swimming fat. But there vegan garlic bread was lovely .

veggie in new forest

I found the queens head to have enough vegan options admittedly I don't mind spicy food, prices are ok,not cheap but not too expensive, good beer, friendly, will go again, large vegetarian selection, was busy last time we were there and we were told there was an hours wait but with the absence of anywhere else with such an extensive vegetarian menu in the area beggars can't be choosers

Pros: vegan options, food good, good beer

Cons: can be busy,up to 1 hrs wait

Limited vegan options

The pub is in a wonderful location and offers a great choice of vegetarian options but falls down when it comes to vegan ones.

Everytime I have been the two vegan options are spicy and my partner cannot tolerate spice. The chef did alter a vegetarian meal for him to make it dairy free but we felt it would be a good idea for them to have one regular non spicy vegan option. The pub gets incredibly busy in the summer and is probably best avoided due to the wait time for food - on one occasion an hour for a starter and the waitress did not apologise.

The prices are reasonable and the food is very tasty but it is not a good choice for vegans.

Pros: location, good vegetarian options

Cons: poor vegan options, not recommended in summer

New Forest Vegan

Eating out in the New Forest is tough for vegans if you don't love chips. Even at the Queens head the veggie menu is great but it's standard last minute stuff for vegans. The ecuse for the delicious Mushroom pie not being vegan is so pathetic I forget why. The best we've found in New Forest apart from Chinese Indian etc but it could so easily be AWESOME rather than just OK and that's annoying

Pros: Vegetarian, Traditional British, Good Value

Cons: Vegan
